Out of all the DS games I own, Elite Beat Agents is easily one of the best. It is a musical game that pulls off the remarkable task of translating the joy of playing music into pecking at a touch screen.
The basic gist of the game involves the globe trekking, eponymous agents from a secret government agency that save the world through the power of song and dance. Each of the 19 missions in the game consists of a song and a storyline that branches based on how well you perform. Some of the "failure" branches will have you in stitches.
Playing a song boils down to three different types of notes. The basic note is a numbered circle with a ring that closes in around it. When the ring meets with the circle, you have to tap it. Chains of notes can be linked together and need to be tapped in numerical order. The second type consists of two notes joined by a track. When you tap the first note, a ball rolls along the track by itself and you need to keep the stylus on it. The ball may slingshot between the notes. Finally, the third type is a large wheel that you need to spin very quickly. The simple rules are reminiscent of games like Guitar Hero.
Where EBA succeeds is in simple, addictive "just one more song" gameplay. It can make songs you don't even enjoy incredibly fun. It is also a great challenge. Novice and casual gamers will have their work cut out on the easiest difficulty, while veteran gamers will certainly find the highest of the four difficulty levels to be a significant challenge. The game also has a great sense of style, with sharp manga-like illustrations and great dancing animations for the agents.
On the multiplayer front, a single card can serve up to four players in a versus match with a limited song selection. Multiple copies of the game allow for any song to be played as well as a cooperative mode. There is also a novel versus ghost mode where you can play against yourself using saved replays. Sadly, true Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection support is absent from this game, so you can't challenge others on the Internet.
EBA has only been out for a couple months at the time of this writing, but I'm already hoping for a sequel. I haven't played a music game this entertaining since Guitar Hero. If you enjoy music games, or just want a simple yet entertaining game for your DS, you owe it to yourself to get EBA.
Feel the Beat!

Whenever games like Elite Beat Agents march forth it's hard not to think of games like Dance Dance Revolution or Parappa the Rapper. These two games are well known for being games about rhythm and precision. Elite Beat Agents is no different. Except it's for the DS, and it's incredibly addictive. The difficulty can get on your nerves sometimes, but you'll be having too much fun to care in the long run. Elite Beat Agents is a must own for DS players.
The Elite Beat Agents are a dance group that will solve all of life's woes by... dancing. You probably could've guessed that on your own. It's downright crazy, but it's also incredibly lively. The story is told through Manga style clips and they're extremely colorful, flashy, and some of them are downright hilarious. The whole premise of the game is hilarious, but the fantastic Manga is beautiful to look at. Like reading a comic book almost.
The game is entirely touch screen based and each level plays out in a similar fashion. A song plays and you have to make the Agents dance. You'll do this by tapping your screen. There's always a big bubble with a ring collapsing in on it. When the ring is just right (which means just outside the number) you tap and score points. If you're really good with beats then you won't need the help of these circles at all, but they're there for those who may not be as in tune with the beats. There's more than just tapping. There are also moments where you'll have to drag your stylus across the screen, or moments where you'll have to spin a wheel furiously. This is fine and dandy, but you'll probably do a number on your touch screen. Especially if you really get into it. So keep that in mind while playing as well.
Most of the songs chosen are pretty good. Familiar classics like "Y.M.C.A" are here as well as current songs such as "Sk8tr Boi." Most of the songs chosen are pretty good and even manage to fill the situation. Although at times it feels like some of the songs were just gotten to appeal to the younger gamers (but honestly, who HASN'T heard some of the classic songs from over twenty years ago?). They don't sound bad, though. For the most part the songs aren't put there improperly, but some of them have been shortened. Most levels will only last you about three or four minutes at the most.
The game does, at times, get difficult. Surprisingly, though, it's like a puzzle game in its difficulty. That is to say, you don't get frustrated, you just want to get up and try again, and aside from the occasional hand cramp, you will. Not just because the songs are good, but because the gameplay is so simple and easy to pick up. It's also refreshingly addictive. It's also easy to get distracted by the agents themselves, though. If you HAVE to see them dance, there's a replay video for that very reason. Sometimes it's fun just to watch these replays because of how much energy the game has. The cutscenes are lively, the dance moves are lively... the songs are lively. Everything about this game is lively to the point where you won't get tired of it any time soon.
To make the best of things, there's quite a bit of gold here. After completing the game the first time you unlock extra difficulty levels, that are faster, full of more energy and really test your skills. You can also unlock hidden stages. There's quite a bit here. Even better, there's a co-op and competitive mode. You can play multiplayer using the DS download station or everyone can have their own copy and you can go at it. Multiplayer is just as addictive with your friends as it is by yourself.
The overall look and feel of this game is nothing short of excellent. As I mentioned, everything about the game is lively. The Manga style cutscenes are colorful and brilliantly done. The agents look fantastic (especially when they dance) and so do the levels. Many DS games would kill to have this kind of style.
Elite Beat Agents is a fast, addictive, and crazy ride, but it's one that's well worth it. Even when the game is giving you trouble, you'll still find it to be more fun than most other DS games out there.
The Good
+Addictive and simple gameplay
+Great looking cutscenes
+Hilarious premise
+A good selection of songs
+Tons of replay value
The Bad
-Occasional case of hand cramp will, unfortunately mean putting this down for a while
-Your touch screen will never forgive you after you've scratched it all up
I'm steppin to the beat alright!!!

Elite Beat Agents is an awsome yet silly game for kids 10 and older. I, 12, wanted the game after seeing it at www.ign.com (awsome game website), and got it for [...] was right for giving it a good review and ds game of the year.
ELITE BEAT REVIEW -------
1. Gameplay-
The game's story is basic and simple, 3 agents going around the world solving people's problems during a song following it (like a music video) The object is to hit circles and go with the beat. Depending how well you do, you get
A. Great ending,
B. OK ending, or
C. Game Over Ending
In order to get the great ending, you have to keep your Elite Beat O'meter Up that looks like this:
[...]
Every time you get a good note, it goes up, every time you get a bad note, it goes down.
In Elite beat Agents there are several kinds of notes to hit...
1. Marker
When the outer circle overlaps with the inner circle you tap the marker. Earlier or later will cause and X to appear on the screen.
This is an example of a marker:
[...]
2. Slider-
The slider is like a marker except you are suppposed to hold a circle that slides over mini-circles until you get to the end. Sometimes there are arrows that mean go back instead of stop.
This is a slider:
[...]
3. Spinner-
The spinner is a spinner that usually finishes the song or just pops up for fun. When it pops up, you have to spin it as fast as possible untim the colored meter gets to the top.
Unforunately I can't make a spinner. Hope you got the point.
2. Multiplayer-
The multiplayer is very fun when playing against friends. The stories are about chefs or gutarists batteling until one wins.
The game is the same but I find it slower and hard to play with all the awsome stuff put on this game.
3. Replay Modes-
In the Game when you finish each song, a graph shows you how well you did based on the hits. After that you can press next or save the replay and listen to it later or watch it.
4. Ranking-
Every time you clear a song, points are added to your score that could increase your rank. Every time you get a rank up, you unlock a new song. Well not every tom since their only 3 bouns songs.
----------------------------------------
2 Audio/Sound
The game is like listening to an Ipod or MP3 player. I wish you could close your ds and listen to it though. The game has 16 songs + 3 bonus songs that you unlock. When I started the game, I didn't know that many songs except September, YMCA, Material Girl, and the secret bonus songs. (my parents new most of them)
All the songs in the game have been remade by different people. The people sure did a great job!
The People and Agents also have voiceovers too.
----------------------------------------
3. Graphics-
The graphics in the game are comic like except the agents that are 3D. There is not alst to say about it except the designs of everyone (The Hot material girls) looked great.
----------------------------------------
4. Overall the game is Awsome and derserves 5 stars and game of the year.
There is also a lot of replay value with all the unlockables and 4 diffulcty settings.
HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite games of all time

I tried this game out at a store once and I bought it a few days later. I always liked DDR but I was never very good at it. The cool thing about Elite Beat Agents is that it's a music game like DDR but it has a very original style. The idea of tapping, sliding and spinning along with the music works really well, and the reason they use pop-rock songs is because pop-rock songs make for REALLY HARD levels. There are 2 difficulty levels available from the start and by beating the medium difficulty you unlock a third difficulty level that's really hard. I haven't beaten hard mode yet and even when I was on medium it would take me hours to beat the later missions. You just find yourself playing them over and over, slowly learning to memorize the levels, and you don't get tired of it at all. It's a really perfect timing game and you end up liking songs you never thought you would like before. Plus, the stories are great! Cheesy but very original, and you get different outcomes depending on how well you play.
I know it's hard to believe this, but this might be one of the best games on the Nintendo DS, period. You have to try it to see how fun it is. You won't find another game like it.
Buy the game new. Not from a reseller.

I just bought a DSLite. Since Elite Beat Agents is over a year old I dropped by my local GameStop to pick up the game used. I thought I got a bargain. I fired up the game in my brand new DS to see that the game saved all the former player's game stats. The second hand EBA game shows all the sites cleared meaning everything is open. I have no idea where to start. The map is on a free spinning ball so there is no linear way for me to figure out where to go next. This will probably ruin the story line for me, time will tell. The game tap happy game so far is fun. I started playing in easy mode but the sites I picked was already bumping up the difficulty. It a huge turn off when a game you started playing just kicks your butt. I recommend buying the game new. Unless someone knows how to reset a DS cartridge. If you know how to reset this game, I would appreciate the information.
Lots of Bonuses

Some people have said that the game ends too quickly. There are a totla of FOUR difficulty settings (only 2 are visible until you beat them both). There are also 3 secret levels to unlock.
The game is really awesome and really helps build up hand eye coordination and has taught me how to have a beat!
Very very addictive

What can I say...
Everyone's given this game a perfect score and there's a reason for that.
This game is incredibly fun!
It is simple to pick up yet very challenging.
It has entertaining and creatively done comic cut scenes.
It has a diverse selection of songs that will at least give eveyone a favorite.
Because of these factors, there's no reason to play this game just once.
Definitely a keeper!
So when you're down or having a bad day... don't hesitate to let the Elite Beat Agents brighten up your day (as they do in the story).
Unexpectedly ADDICTIVE and FUN video game!

I own a DS Lite and have really only used it when my husband and 2 older kids wanted to play together as a family with multi-player mini games. Well, that was until I discovered this game! It gave me a reason to want to play games on my own time!
Loads of fun, and then some...

I just played this game today. I've been holding it, since release, and never opened it. Too busy playing Yoshi's Island DS on my new Ice Blue I imported from [...]
But this game uses the stylus to the max! I really enjoy playing music games, definitely my favorite genre. I was hoping the soundtrack would be more snazzy and jazzy, and a bit less rock and roll. But that's okay. The "cover bands" are not too bad, and as I'm a bit older than the young kids playing this type of music, so I don't notice the differences much. But, the music is not my normal type to listen to. I enjoy more poppy tunes, and less "grunge rock."
I may just have to check out the Japanese version of this game, and see if it uses more "J-Pop?" Maybe somebody who knows could respond to that, in the comments section of this review?
I love the use of the stylus and how you can take on the roll of a "hero" in this game. I love the "comic book" and/or Manga feel of the story-line as you proceed through the levels. I have yet to play very far into this game, but am enjoying it immensely. I recommend it highly.

This is, honestly, one of the best games in the Nintendo Ouvre.
The DS is all about the Touch Screen, like the Wii is all about movement. For the DS, this game is the best that has been released.
The game play is more fun than you would ever believe. My only qualm is that the game itself is short, but as a player, you find yourself trying to beat your own high scores on each level, which means great replay value.
A MUST buy.
