Great graphics...

This is not really a game. You don't have a goal you're trying to achieving and you're definitely not tryng to break any records. You're supposed to groove to the music that you and the electroplanktons are making together. I bought this because I thought I could make interesting music with it while I'm away from my piano but...it's much more simplistic and in my opnion, it's for people who don't have any musical background at all. I found it un-fun and actually frustrating because it seems I'm just peicing pre-programmed sound bytes together and not really creating anything truly my own. Alas! Oh but the graphics ARE SUPER CUTE.

not exactly worth the full price..

I know I won't get many "helpful" votes for this, but this piece of art (as it is not an actual game) isn't worth the current price as of 1/16/06. It's far too limited and option-less; unfortunately, that's probably the point.

In Electroplankton, there are ten different electroplanktons to toy with, all of which create nice, experiemental sounds that are vaguely musical. It's fun for about thirty minutes (not to mention breathtaking) but you'll turn it off with little reason to turn it back on again. When you do, it'll be for five to ten minutes tops, each time.

You won't have a problem with this. It's a program that's designed for minor play, as there's really not much to do.

Fortunately, it sounds amazing and looks really beautiful. Everything is 2D (of course) but it's done in such an artsy, colorful way. It's definitely something for both your eyes and ears.

There will be moments when you'll get a happy accident. Many moments. And every time, you'll wish you had a way to save it on the cartridge. And you simply can't. (Sure, you can save it via output to a computer or a tape/mp3 player, but this seems a bit unnecessary, as the average video gamer probably doesn't have said equipment. Not to mention that something would be "lost" without the visuals).

It's an open-ended experience, and while it's an interesting idea, something inside of me wishes there were simply *more* of it. Specifically, more electroplankton. After playing through all ten, you'll quickly get an understanding of which three or so are your favorite, and the couple that you don't like will probably never be played again. Twenty electroplankton would have been excellent.

But, it is what it is: art. It's futile to attach some ultimate score for something like this; art is subjective, therefore someone can think Electroplankton is absolutely brilliant and someone can think it's absolutely not. I happen to fall somewhere inbetween. It's good, but not good enough for the price. Personally, I think it'd be a good idea for you to wait until it's either cheaper or used copies are available.

Didn't exactly live up to expectations

I was really hoping this game would become something I would pop in and play with whenever i couldn't decide on what to play or when i just felt like some down time, but that just wasn't the case. Elecktroplankton just doesn't have enough to keep me A)coming back to play and B)keeping me play.

All harshness out of the way I will say there are some really cool stuff to mess with. I have found myself a few times hooking the game up to my PC speakers and having it play really loud while doing homework. It does have that almost "Nirvana" thing about it. In the end of the day though the chance of you using this more than a handful of times will be very low.

If you are really bugged out for a "strange" game look up "Daigasso! Band Brothers" or "Ouendan" otherwise known as "Elite beat agents".

A Distraction, but not a Game

There are 10 mini-"games" on this cart. Each one is a unique musical/visual activity.
Examples:
1. Draw lines with your stylus and the plankton will follow the path and make sounds depending on the shape of the path.
2. Record your voice and change various aspects of it.
3. Make noises and see nanocarp form various shapes.

So, in a nutshell: It's a cool way to show off the DS capabilities, but there's no real gameplay to be had here.

Electroplankton is a musical activity. You can pick from several "instruments" that allow you to change the tone and tempo of their sound.

If you are looking for a unique game experience involving sound... this is for you.

A month or so later what do I do with Electroplankton? While I am programming, I plug in some headphones and listen to the audience mode for two hours or so. Any longer and my ears hurt.

Pros:
1) The game can play random sequences continously.
2) You can compose orginal music, perfect for remastering.
3) Good Nintendo style graphics

Cons:
1) Repetitive nature of game gets annoying.
2) No saving your work.

Fun for the under 7-8 kids

My son has had a great time playing this game. He has older brothers who are aloowed to play the more mature games and always feels left out. This game allows him to capture 10 different types of sea creatures, keep them as pets and train them to do tricks for him. He loves it ! and I love it because for once there is a fun game that contains no violence or sexual undertones. There is a large population of very intelligent 7-10 year old kids playing these electronic games and it would be really nice for us parents not to have to pay $30 for a game that teaches our children more anger and killing. I LOVED THIS GAME and more importantly so does my 7 year-old. My 10 year-old sneaks off with it too ! GOOD Choice. We need more like this.

THIS IS NOT A GAME.
It's a fun way to experience musical notes with the stylus. I was interested in this because it uses some of the other features on the NDS that are not used in most games.
You use the stylus to move the Electroplankton or the items they strike to change the sounds you hear.
I like the unusual for my DS. I find it relaxing.
If you are a true gamer who likes lots of action, this is not for you.

Filling a niche not everyone asked for.

This is a cool little rhythm-based piece of art. It's fun, and entertaining, and it makes you smile. But, unlike its competition (other DS games), it lacks in replay value. If you're the type of person who could be endlessly entertained by something like this, buy it. If the price doesn't severely cut into your game budget, this title makes a great 4th or 5th title. If you like strange novelties originating from Japan, this is one of them. But if you're deciding on the top 3 or 4 games for the DS, I have to steer you away from this. It's a great addition to a collection, but a poor starting point.

Whats Up with the PRICE GOUGING???

I thought this game would be cute to get and let my toddler play around with since she cant play anyway - But with people SCALPING it to the highest bidder I guess I'll never know how bad or good this game is for younger kids. I really hate when a company releases something like this for known PIRATES to horde. That is all the good that comes of it. I hope a company person reads this and will do something about it - PLEASE. For the sincere gamers who have kids.

Not quite as orthogonal as I had expected, but still fun.

I enjoy playing Electroplankton, and am eagerly awaiting the release of Electronekton. haha. I had expected a bit more programmability than the game actually provides, but it is still a good thing. I recommend it to you.
