One of The Most Overlooked Shows, Gets An Overlooked Game!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 14 / 14

This game, like the TV show it was based off of, did not sell well. And it's a real shame too because this is one of the Playstations best platform games! Although the games looks bad and sounds even worse, the gameplay is deep, complex, wacky, fast-pased, and fun! Forget the fact the graphics stink and look at how it plays. I think you'll be plessently surprised to find one fun action-RPG! However because the show got no support or advertising this game sadly got the same treatment!

If SUNSOFT making this game instead of Bandai isn't indication enough (Bandai distributed the show), then the fact that Bandai refuses to acknowledge that the game and show ever existed is even worse! However buy this game (Even if you never saw, or liked, the show before). You won't be dissapointed.

This game is ment for the younger for gamers out there. It is a pretty simple game but can be fun. The graphics are 2d but are still good. Over all this is a good game that you might want to rent instead of buy because you might be bored of it fast.

One Great Game!!

This game is one of the best games I ever played. I bought it one month after it came out. At first, I thought the game was boring at first, but then it got funner and funner. You can also gain new attacks and spells! You also have to pass more than 25 levels which are FULL of action, gain 4 types of spells-Fire, Shrinking, Invincibility, and Ice, and beat more than 55 enemies. I hope you get this game or rent it first because this game is "INCREDIBLY" exciting!

This is not really a review. The game is fun, but short. Other reviews or descriptions tell what this game is about.

I hate ignorant people. This is not a Dragonball ripoff. Dragonball is loosely based on the Chinese legend "Journey to the West." And when I mean loosely, I mean creator Toriyama made most of the Dragonball mythology up to his liking. I'm not saying that Dragonball is not entertaining, but it is not a story of the Monkey king. Monkey Magic is a more accurate interpretation of the legend of the Monkey King. As for the show itself, it was a bit bland as a retelling, but still entertaining in its own right. Technically it was not canceled, but ratings were not stellar and before you make some uneducated A=B theory. Nielsen ratings for cartoons are never high, let alone for "anime" are ever high especially when it is placed in impossible time slots. This one aired on Sunday 6:30 AM where I am. Season 1 only has 13 episodes. If you want to read more blatant ignorance, see the variety of reviews on the live-action Dragonball movie here on Amazon (search for it) where some people really think Dragonball is a re-telling of "Journeys to the West" and Dragonballs are really dragon's balls.

Fun game, but short and buggy

This game is extremely fun and quite different because you gain advantages as you progress throughout the game, such as gaining magic skills, the "ultimate weapon," limitless magic power, and even unlimited lives. Several anime-style movie sequences presented throughout the game give it a nice apppearance. Also, the game is in 2D but often has multiple layers, meaning you can also walk toward and away from the screen at specified areas.

This game is quite possibly the buggiest game I have ever played. The game will lock up during voiceovers at random, and when it doesn't freeze, it will simply mute the character. It is possible to get smashed in open areas and skip ahead of bosses due to several glitches encountered when playing a single game. These problems occured with several copies of Monkey Magic, from rented to new factory sealed discs.

This game was & is a complete ripoff off Dragonball. The show got canceled & and creators got sued. Why own a game like this anyway.

[...] Monkey Magic is based on a old chinese tale called Monkey King, Journey to the West. The main character in DBZ copies almost all of the monkey kings original traits, his japanese name, battle pole, flying cloud, his monkey powers and even some of his sidekicks such as oolong the pig. While the videogame skews the original story a tad, the abilities remain the same.

Monkey Magic is a fun game that puts a new 3d twists on typical 2d sidescrollers, with lavish levels and unique puzzles. while you have only four spells in your roster, the combinations make for surprisingly challenging gameplay
the sad part is that the ending gives hints that there should have been a sequel, but apparently the cartoons wasnt popular enough in the states....

and the theme song sure is catchy!!
