What can I say? Sonic the Hedgehog is one of my favorite games of all time. I remember the first time I popped this little number into my Sega Genisis so many years ago. This game captured my heart back in 1992, and sits there, still to this day. This game has it all. Likable characters, awesome music, nice graphics, and pure fun gameplay. Sorry if I'm sounding a little bit biased right now, but it's the truth.

You play as Sonic, a cute little Hedgehog, who speeds around levels jumping on various enemies and collecting rings until you reach the end of each zone. Along the way, there are many traps and other obstacles having you make good use of you're jumping abilities. As you can tell already, this game is a platformer. But this game had something that other platformers(at the time) didn't.... speed. One of the main gameplay hooks was that Sonic was quite a speedy character. In order for you to be succesful, you must learn how to control Sonic's extraordinary speed. At the end of each zone, you have to fight against your arch-enemy, Doctor Eggman. Eggman is always the boss at the end of each of the stages you complete. The game mainly consist of six different stages, each divided into three acts.

The graphics are actually really nice. Sonic isn't as thin as he is in the sequals, but he still looks good. He looks more cutesy, but that really isn't a bad thing. Enemies look nice as well. They really aren't really menacing, but more on the cute side. But, like I said, this really isn't a bad thing. Overall it is a very nice looking game, seeing as how it was one of the first to come out on the Genisis.

As far as audio goes. Sonic the Hedgehog is a little bit lop-sided. The sound effects(jumping on enemies, spining, collecting rings, the noise when Sonic dies, ect.) sound a little cheap. For instance, when Sonic dies, a peculiar noise happens that's hard to describe. Some of the noises just don't sound right, either that or they seem garbled compared to the music.

The music ,on the other hand, is perfect. All the tunes in the game perfectly mesh every stage. The tunes are simple and actually pretty catchy. Each of the tunes represent the theme of the zone you are in perfectly. Whether it be the depressed feel of the Marble Zone, or the funky cyber electric feel of the Scrap Brain Zone. The music isn't as good as the quality found in many SNES games, but they get the job done.

This is a perfect old school platformer for your Genisis. It is a classic game and like I said before, it is just pure fun to play. This is good game for everybody really. If you are interested in Sonic before the extremely mediorce Sonic: Adventures came around, this game is a great place to start.

Super Fun!

Back in 1985 the NES released a game called Super Mario Bros. But that all changed in 1991 when sega relesed Sonic the Hedgehog and brought doom the Nintedo comp. and Mario. With bright beaches to marble city to more this game is amazing. 9.5 out of ten

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was the most popular, but I always liked the original Sonic The Hedgehog game the best of the 4 in the series. It has great graphics, sound, and best of all it's fun and has tons of replay value. I've been playing this game since I first got the system about 7 years ago. At the time, Sonic The Hedgehog was a major, groundbreaking game. I still play it more than just about all of my other Sega Genesis games. Even though I've beat it and got all the emeralds more times than i can remember, it's still fun to go all the way through and beat it again and again. Play it, and you'll see why Sonic has revolutionized the video game world and how this game marked Sonic's starting point.

If you get any games of the Sonic The Hedgehog series, any of them would be great to get, but I would recommend this one the most.

This is the FLAGSHIP of Sega games where a story unfolds into an Adventure that spills into a game gear, a Saturn, a Dreamcast and who would have ever guessed Sonic gracing the cover of Nintendo Power? A fun game for Sonic beginners, great control and he even had impatient personality for when you let go of the control for longer than 10 seconds; he taps his foot impatiently waiting for you to move.

A Super Game!

Sonic the Hedgehog is a fast moving game with a super fast character. The game is pretty fun and can get addicting quickly. I liked the way the zones and acts got continually harder. I also thought the music was fitting for each zone. The graphics are great for 1992 Genesis. You speed through loop-de-loops, float over lava, shoot like a pinball and run super fast. There's even a 360-degree rotating maze you go through looking for chaos emeralds. All while dodging the demented scientist Dr. Ivo Robotnik's henchbots!

This game (unlike some other Sonic games), is not quite as prone to making you angry when you lose. (A plus) But also keep in mind this was the first Sonic game so if you have played other Sonic games you may find things missing. (One is Super Sonic) But it's still Sonic, so that means it's probably fast paced with lot's of action and a super cool character with lot's of attitude as the star.

All in all, I would way this is a pretty fun game.

It wasn't that great
