Best game of all time for any system

This game is the best arcade game ever made. When I go to the arcade I shovel out quarters to play it. I have never beaten it though and I don't know how many levels there are. You are a guy who is carrying around an axe or sword and you hack at baddies as they move into the screen. Some enemies are more powerful than others and it takes longer to kill them. If you knock a guy off of his lizard then you can jump on it and ride it around slashing at the baddies. The graphics are also very good. You should buy this, no, you must buy this. It is essential in order to survive. It aint no lie, Buy Buy Buy!!!

An excellent and highly underrated game

These days, the Sega Genesis tends to go unappreciated, due to all the next-generation systems hogging the spotlight. That's a real shame, because the classic sixteen-bit Genesis had its share of games that could more than hold their own against modern games. Among them was a little-known (but still good) game called Golden Axe. Read on for my review of this game.

PROS:
-If you're a fan of the Final Fight series, you're going to love this game. It uses a similar engine, but in a medieval setting.
-There are different characters that you can play as, and each one has his or her own strengths and weaknesses.
-If you're looking for a challenge, you'll find it here.

CONS:
-No battery or passwords. You've got to complete the game in a single setting. Sure, this adds to the challenge (which many gamers will praise), but it's going to be a turn-off to those who are new to video gaming.
-Although this is a good game, it's nothing revolutionary.
-The graphics and resolution pale in comparison to those of the system's sixteen-bit rival, the Super Nintendo.

OVERALL:
If you've got a Genesis, this game is worth picking up. If you've got a Dreamcast, this is one of the games that was featured in the Sega Smashpack. If you've got one of those systems, give Golen Axe a whirl. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

A Magic Twist

This is one of the best remembered Genesis games. Tho it's absolutely nothing special. It's almost totally like Streets of Rage with magic spells instead of special kung-fu moves and set in the dark ages.

You can choose the big Conan lookalike Ax Battler, who uses earth magic. Tyris Flare, the She-Ra type amazon woman who uses fire magic or Gilius Thunderhead, the viking dwarf uses lightning magic (and the character who actually uses the Golden Axe) or team up in a two-player (the best way to play the game).

The story is a load of cobblers. Some dude called Death Adder (and his son Death Adder JNR) are up to some amount of evil and you've got to stop him.

So on you go on your journey of hacking and slashing goblins, skeletons and various other guys in armor. It's fun, but not great.

The sound effects are pathetic and do not show off what the Genesis was capable of. David Whittaker's music, while being slightly tuneful and medieval, was pretty bad and wasn't as memorable as Yuzo Koshiro's effort on the Streets of Rage games.

A fun game to play right to the end once (in a two player) but not as memorable as it's following what suggest.

Can't get tired of it

Golden Axe was a classic title and to this day, I still can't get tired of this. You are either a axe wielding Dwarf or a Male or Female Barbarian with a sword. Your goal is to find the evil Death Adder and defeat him. Along the way, you use spells and even get to ride on Dragons and use them to help you in your quest to bring peace to the land.

It's your basic beat em up, blast them with a bit of magic and honestly, it's a pretty basic game. I just don't think it ever got boring because it was challenging, great to play with a friend and always a good nostalgia game if you were getting tired of other games.

There were a few games that were required on SEGA Genesis, Any of the Sonics and Spinball, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, the uncensored Mortal Kombat, Moonwalker and of course Golden Axe. Now that you know which ones you must get, start with this one and enjoy!

Golden Axe, the best Sega Classic game

Golden Axe is easily one of the best games for the Sega Genesis. Golden Axe has all the best features a person could ever want in a video game: good graphics, music, and sound effects. The graphics in this game are good. Everything from the character animations to the backround are done well. Another good thing about this game is the music. The music does an exellent job of setting the mood for each level and situation. The third best thing about this game is the sound effects. All the sound effects of Golden Axe really put the shine on an already great game. Nothing quiet wakes you up in the morning, like hearing the crack of your characters weapon on an enemy's head.
In the game you play as one of three characters: a Barbarian, a Dwarf, and an Amazon warrior. In this game you are sent on a quest to save both the prince and princess from the Death Adder. One of the best things about this game is that each character can pick up magic potion, from squirrel carrying bags, that can be used to activate their special ability. Each character has their own special ability. The Dwarf can control lightning, the Barbarian controls the earth element, and the Amazon warrior controls the fire element. The best part of Golden Axe is in its two player mode. Grab a friend and kick some butt together. There's nothing more fun then kicking ancient evil butt with a friend.

This has to be one of the most recognizable games of all time. The Genesis port is pretty faithful to the arcade, though of course the graphics aren't as good and the music is a bit tinny. Still, this is possibly one of my favorite games of all time. Choose from warrior, warrior maiden, or axe-wielding dwarf. The dwarf kicks ASS, though he could use some kind of armor or something. What's with the green pajamas? No wonder he's so pissed.

Ok so maybe this game is alittle old but all those who still own a genesis (Like me)(if u dont have sega genesis GET ONE!) then GET THIS GAME if u dont have it and heres why:

GAMEPLAY 5/5:choose to be axe battler a blue barbarian with medium volcano magic, Tyris flare a girl with best magic with fire or Gilius thunderhead with worst magic but awsome attack and ride dragons and bizzare Chicken legs!!! SPOILERS! SPOLIERS! there are 8 levels of gameplay an thieves that look like sqquirels. U can do 2 player team or vs but team is really fun if ure nervous u can u can start out on begginer mode an change health meter (3,4 or 5) before takin on ARCADE mode.

STORY 2/5:Cheesy story but i dont care really (it duznt affect gameplay) U set out on a quest to kill Death Adder and his son Death Adder JR. must die as well along with the soldiers cuz they took over your village as well as they killed ure family! Now u seek revenge against them!O an u need to free the king an princess!

GRAPHICS 4/5:Great graphics 4 a sega game! I like how (SPOILERS!) on level 4 the fiends path how the fiends path changed coler in backgrond an feathers flew by showin the eagle took off...

SOUND 4/5: U really get the feeling when u conk ure weapon on an enemy but its annoying when skeletons attack fast an beat the crap out uv ya!

MUSIC 5/5: O YA! the death adder (last boss tune) song rocks! an even level 6/7 tunes! in fact their all great! although i got sega smash pack 4 GBA cuz golden axe was on it an i was alittle disapointed that they cut out alot of the music=(

REPLAY-VALUE 5/5:...it came with EVERYTHING but nuff about that< an i still play it (with barbarian cuz he my favorite even though people like Gilius the Dwarf) to this very day!2 player is also jus incredible! I never played the arcade version but it feels like u are playin an arcade game (unlike sega smash pack golden axe=p)this is 100% addicted jus like any classic...

RENT/BUY: well ya cant rent this no more but u dont need to! Unfortunatley the game is rare to find...i got the game box,booklet.etc cuz im jus that way with games but its not reccomended so its up ta u!This will make a good 1rst genesis game to any1 who duznt own a genesis an this game dont have rating cuz it old but u can tell its E rated cuz no blood an stuff so reccomended 4 all ages! I can't believe Genesis fans used to think Golden Axe was so great. I had a friend who thought the game was one of the best the system had to offer. Everyone who owned a Genesis seemed to agree with him. It's nothing special (then again, most of the games on the Genesis were nothing special).

It's really not much different from the Super NES game, King of Dragons. King of Dragons is better because it has prettier graphics and colors, more exciting gameplay, and just an overall better game. Golden Axe feels old and empty in comparison.

First of all I am tired of people saying the graphics are pale compared to the Super Nintendo. The SNES won't come out untill late 1991. This game was released in 1989. Sorry had to get that out of my chest, now on to my review. I liked the fact that this game has two more levels than the arcade game. The graphcis are abit pale but another than that I think it is pretty cool. Get this game or buy the Sega Genesis Collection.
