Genesis version is actually not that great. C64 is better.

I found this game to be very difficult on the C64. Along with busting ghosts around New York you had to manage the company's budget. The more ghosts you successfully caught (not that easy) the more money you got and you could upgrade your equipment and Ecto-1. Like I said, I wasn't very good at it and the game always went very badly once Gozer came to town. The Keymaster and the Gatekeeper would find each other and then that would be 'game over'.
Knowing full well that the Genesis version is completely different, I thought I would give it a go anyway. It's not good. Instead of being a skill-based sort of RPG it's a horrid platformer with poorly designed, absurd levels and ugly characters that look like head-knockers. The managerial aspect is still there but not as fun. And why are the Proton Packs not flying out proton streams? They fire slimy bullets instead. What? That's not what we saw in the movies! It's actually very similar to the Extreme Ghostbusters: Code Ecto-1 game released for the GBA in 2002. It's a rather boring platforming shoot-em-up that makes you feel like a Ghostbuster in no way at all.
I'd actually stick to the C64 version.

I don't know if I remember this game well enough to give an accurate review, but here goes:
This is another basic side-scroller where ya go around and eliminate enemies. I think the game takes place entirely in Dana Barett's apartment complex, and you have to keep watching out for the Stay-Puffed Marshmellow Man (person, but he was called a man) who, uh. . . I think he either grabs you or shoots lasers from his eyes. . . either way, he attacks through windows from the outside. The ghostbusters have heads that are almost as big as their toony bodies, which looks pretty hilarious in my opinion.
what is this????

This is the greatest Ghostbusters game ever made even though only a couple were made. It starts off with 4 different sections to choose from. The high rise, the burning building, the ice building and the haunted house. Each house has 2 sub ghosts and 1 boss ghost. For all ghosts that are caught at the end of the battle you are paid for to get better weapons and health. Definitely one of the best 2-D side scrollers ever.
Awesome Game

This was a fun game, much better than the Ghostbuster games for the NES or Sega Game Master. It actually has non-linear levels and proposes some amount of difficulty through the game play.
The controls are decent and the cartoonish look just makes it fun to watch. The ghosts in the game are original (by that, I mean that they weren't from the movies nor from the cartoon series). You can shoot in any direction, but you have adjust the aim yourself.
For some reason, the ghostbusters in this game shoot out slime rather than proton beams, but who cares? It's a fun game and well worth playing.
I suggest trying to find it for the $20 to $30 range, though. Anything more than that is probably a ripoff unless you're REALLY wanting to collect these games.
