Cliffhanger for the Sega Genesis great game based on movie!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: June 17, 2004
Author: Amazon User

Pros: Graphics, challenge and sound
Cons: Nothing

CliffHanger for the Sega Genesis, is the great 16 bit game based on the Box office hit. In my last review, I reviewed the great Gameboy version for this game, and the Genesis version is
just as good and is really awesome!!!!

The design and format for the game are much different than the Gameboy but the result is the same, a very difficult and enjoyable game to play.

The 16bit hit game again follows the movie. You play as Gabe Logan (Sylevester Stallone) who is trying to gather, the money lost by the terrorists, and their leader Eric Qualin while trying to find a way to fight the terrorists and rescue
your friend Hal Tucker .

Challenge: 10

Wow! This is probably one of the hardest Genesis games ever made. Normally, I finish many games in just a few days, but this rare 16 bit title still has playing it for weeks!!

The challenge in Cliffhanger for Genesis is extremely high. You'll probably be playing the game for a couple of days if not weeks to get passed. Each level in the game (and
they are great) gets harder and harder.

In the first area, you start out among icy trails that lead to the money, but you have trouble as you must fight your way through Qualin's henchmen.

The cool thing is that while you beat and knock guys down, you can take their weapons and use it against them.
In other levels, you have to avoid avalanches while jumping over obstacles like logs and Qualin's men. And gets this, just like the movie, you'll actually be doing some hiking in many levels!!!

The hiking levels in the game are extremely hard, as you'll have to avoid being shot by Qualin's men while at the same making your to the top of a cliff to youre resting point.

Graphics : 8

The graphics for Cliffhanger for Genesis, are very good.
This is probably the best looking action game based on a hit movie. There is good detail on backgrounds and levels.

And the Genesis version of Gabe Logan, does look closer to the movie version.

Also during each level, you get scenes or slideshows of your progress, along with 2d images relating to the movie. It looks
good.

Control 7:

Unlike the somewhat frustrating control in the Gameboy version,
The control in the Genesis is alot better. You have one button for punch, and another button for jump. You also get a jump kick and a roundhouse kick. If you tap the control twice in a direction , you have a run button.

The control is much better and you'll need it because each level is pretty tough. My guess is that Sony Imagesoft had more
time to fine tune the control here, than in the Gameboy version, because it's so much better.

Sound and Music 5:

Well the music and sound aren't anything spectacular, but with the challenge and graphics they are good enough. Just like the Gameboy version, the main music is the theme song, an ending song, during each level completed, and another short tune for when you die. (You get 4 continues).

The sound is pretty good, everything from the slashing of a knife, to the using of a machine gun, to crushing avalanches have their own sound.

Overall 7:

The Genesis version of Cliffhanger, is just awesome. From the graphics, to the challenge the game is just beautifully done. It's another great game based on a movie. It's another great title for the Genesis console system.

It's rare but see if you can get at Ebay or your local video game store. It's rare because the game is out of print, it's one of those Genesis games that didn't really
get distributed well, like the Sonic games, so there weren't many copies made, so it's very hard to find.

Other good games based on movies:

*Hook (By Sony Imagesoft)
* Bram Stoker's Dracula (Sony) *Terminator 2 Arcade Game
*Terminator 2 Judgement Day *WaterWorld
*No Escape * Wayne's World
