Inferior to the first Army Men and Medal of Honor

Compared to the first Playstation version of Army Men, the graphic presentation of the topography is no where near as good. The Snake Canyon scenario in the original game was a beautiful example of how programmers can simulate physical topography. The scenarios in this version are poorly rendered and VERY limited. The playing field is small and the number of scenarios is a dissapointment. The arrow used to show enemy location is a poor substitute for the small radar map on the original. The aiming reticule for Mortars and Grenades is also not as good as in the original. The original version's aiming reticule was easier to use and in head-head mode this translates into FAST! The weapons/ammo icons are also inferior in this version, they are too small to see at a distance compared to the first game which used large crates with symbols on them. Weapons choices have also suffered in this latest version, Mines are no longer available, a SERIOUS omission in head-head mode. 3DO had the opportunity to add weapons such as bayonet, garrot, artillery, poison gas etc. and did not. Please, if you have not tried Medal of Honor or the original version of Army Men do so. They were light years ahead of this cartoonish version. If you want realistic combat action, the original AM or MOH cannot be beat. If you are looking for a "nice" game for your 8 year old this is it. I think most adults who like military history and war gaming will find this one a dissapointment. 3DO give us what we want, the first 20 min. of SAVING PVT RYAN, PLATOON and FULL METAL JACKET, not Beetle Bailey.

As the Father of a 9 year old, searching through the demonic and gorish offering by the gaming industry, I find this game to be entertaining and less grusome. I appreciate the lack of blood letting and screaming. This Game is still not for the meek, the blow torch does what a blow torch did. My son and I enjoy playing this together. I find solace in knowing that I don't have to look over his shoulder when he's playing this one alone.

This game stinks. Anyone who liked the intense and realistic qualities of the first Army Men game will be disappointed with this effort. The 2 player mode has been destroyed, the beautiful graphics and environments are gone, the fast and smooth control is gone, there are no more allies to assign for attack or defense, the operation of hand grenades, bazookas and mortors is inferior, in the one player mode the tank is not able to smash a wooden fence. There is an annoying arrow at the feet of the character which points you in the direction of the enemy thus taking the fun and suprise out of setting ambushes, the global ban on land mines has reached this game as players are not able to set mines. The sound effects have been emasculated, no piercing death screams. No jeeps, no .50 caliber guns. This game must have been designed for the N64 as it does not come close to living up to the high standards of the 1st game (Army Men 3D)for the Playstation. If you like combat reality games buy the excellent Medal Of Honor, it is everything that this game is not.

Sarge is back and BETTER THAN EVER!

I think Sarge's Heroes is the best AM game to date! It portrays stunning graphics, 4-player battle mode, great destructive weapons, and just about everything else! Speaking of graphics, this game is totally different from the previous pc versions. The levels are beautiful 3-D environments instead of top view like the pc versions. The detailed missions take place in Sarge's world AND our world! Fight in the kitchen or snipe a tan soldier off the top of a toilet. Never played AM before? Just use SH's intuitive bootcamp to beef up on your skills. And after using Sarge, there are even a couple hidden characters...

Its fun

I don't understand why everyone is giving this game such a bad review. I recently bought this game and I am having a great time with it. Granted the controls are a little lacking, but once you get used to them they really aren't that bad. Everyone is saying how impossible the controls are, these are the people who believe the controls should be catered to them, part of the game is adapting to the game. The story line is funny and I got to tell you, Sarge just cracks me up. I really enjoy this game because of the real life battle fields because when I was a kid I used to spend hours playing with my little plastic army figures, and creating mock battles in my mind. Now I can play that battle. Most of the bad reviews probably come from people who automatically don't like games that they are not good at right away, don't let them fool you, this is fun.

I want my money back.

The first Army men was great. this one I played for about twenty minutes before I turned it off, and that's how it's stayed since. the controls are annoying [read, you can't even turn while you are moving forward, you practicly have to be at a dead stop to change direction] the look of the game is lacking and over all it's just not comfortable to play. try the first army men if you like the concept and want a good game. My other suggestion to you is to check out Medal Of Honor. It's spectacular. certainly worth a look.

This is one great game! It has it all!

I got this as a Christmas gift the year it came out and I couldn't put down the controller! It was so much fun! The best part about the whole game (if I had to choose just one thing) would be the different environments at each level you have to fight in. You go through ice boxes & refrigerators (complete with ice cube trays and coke cans), across the dinner table with a ful course meal on it, and through a bedroom filled with a lot of cool things! The story line is great and the movies between each level are worth watching each time! The game is not extremely hard...much easier to maneuver then Army Men 3-D. I solved it pretty quick, but I have played it since to do it all over again and it still is a great game....THE BEST ARMY MEN GAME MADE!

This is such a fun game

Sarges Heroes is a really fun game. I'm sick of all of the extreme gamers complaining about the controls. They aren't hard to get used to, and in spite of what they say, the game isn't too short. If u think that this game is too much comedy and not enough war, than you are one odd person. This game is really fun and if you like fighting games that aren't soley fighting, then I suggest u get this game.

The reason I like this game so much is that you can have real life war weapons and items and because Sarge is a cool buff and brave green plastic man the squad is cool but they dont beat Sarge! If you want cool weapons and items get Army Men Sarge's Heros!!

Definately A "Must Buy" Kind of Game!!

Hello again, fellow gamers!! For my second review I chose to write about Army Men:Sarges Heroes. Of course, you take on the role of SARGE. The hero of the green army, trying to thwart the efforts of General Plastro, The leader of the tan army and nation. Let's start with the game's features. Not only are they aplenty, but far different from the other army men games. In SH(sarge's heroes) you get the ability to strafe, or move sideways to attack, which was very welcome from the other games in which you did not have it. Not only does strafing allow you to pick off enemies easier, but helps you to take less damage. You also get more weapons to help you in your campaign. The all new SNIPER RIFLE, allows you to pick off enemies at long range and takes them out with one shot. The only drawback is its really slow rate of fire, but its immense power makes up for this. You also add LAND MINES to your weapons arsenal. Just drop a few of these puppies on the ground and you can stop any enemy in the game!! In acception to helicopters of course. While we're on the subject of weapons, I should tell you about the cons of your arsenal. First of all, the FLAMETHROWER is the worst weapon of the game. Unlike the flamethrower in the previous games, this one stinks!! When you fire it non stop it only last about ten seconds, just barely enough to torch one tan soldier!! Talk About pathetic!!There are also really cool movies at the beginning of each level, progresssing you through the game alot easier. Also, six multiplayer arenas let you and a friend go head-to-head. Green VS. Tan. The only drawback is that if you get killed, you lose all of your weapons but an M-16 and 25 rounds of ammo!! Also, the occcasional polygon dropout may occur, so don't get frustrated the fist time it happens!! In this game, you still get to drive a tank, but you can destroy the tank while you are in it. This is caused by fireing a shell to close in front to you, so be careful. Finally I want to say that, despite some minor flaws, its still a GREAT game. I also highly recommend ALL of the other Army Men games. Also check out my other review on Army Men World War: Land, Sea, Air. And keep checking Amazon.com for future ones. The Biomes Boy HAVE FUN!!
