Pre-Release Rip Off

I hope that they do another run of this SE at the normal price, so that the people who are paying these crazy prices are taught a lesson. The company not shipping enough units and then having faithful gamers buying these games and driving up the price only sends the message that gaming companies can get away with it and should do it more often. Next time you complain about a game costing $39 it will cost $60 because of clowns like these.
I am holding on to hope for a second run of a computer game I really want, from a Demo I loved playing, but I refuse to play any real life games with them.

OK...best buy is selling this for $29.99. Amazon had this on here , 2 days ago for about $57. now it's $120????

Something sure smells rotten here. Not worth it. A $30 package for $120.

(And yes it is the special adition that Best Buy is selling for $29.99.

Where is it at?

Great game, but big problems with the DVD version.

I have the CD version of the game, and bought it for $30 at bestbuy. Bestbuy supposedly had the Special Edition for the same price, but according to the workers there it never hit the shelves (because of pre-orders, customer pick-up, etc.). Anyway, check out the forumns on the UT2004 website; people are having significant problems installing and playing the game from the DVD. Several people posted that there was a manufacturing defect with their DVD (a C-shaped engraving on the data side of the disk). There's a run on the Special Edition, apparently because of the map-making and modding videos and the Logitech headset. At the same price, of course I would rather have the Special Addition. But now sharp-dealing merchants are selling them for over $100?!? Really, who is going to watch 130 hours of instructional videos, and does a cheap headset and shiny metal box warrant a $70 premium. That and the risk of a faulty disk. Save your dough and get the regular version. It's awesome and a huge value for your money.

better then the ut2003

I went on the tour epic had set up and was able to play it,and i must say it was fun to play. The game play is much better the their first attempt at UT2003 i would suggest that any one that enjoyed UT2003 a little bit should get this.I played only the beta of the game and it was running real good in the beta and you can only guess on how this one will be.The new modes and the old Assault add ons where a blast to play and had alot more of the old UT99 version which so many of us loved to play. The weapons have a better look to them then what the 03 version did. They really concentrated on the game play aspect of he game more then the graphical part this time around which was a good this.I realy do think people will have a better idea of what it will be like when the demo comes out.The air crafts and tanks where a new thing which i think is coming along nicely. The insanely large maps will certainly help the vehicle part of the game since bases wont be to close where you can shoot from your base and still hit theirs. There is the old sniper rifle witch is a old welcome and this has its own built in camper block if you will, where as the UT99 version did not.every time they shoot a sniper rife it shoot out smoke of the end of the pipe to show where the sniper is as well as it stop him from camping a exit/entrance of the a base. There are some new weapons that i wont talk about so i don't mess up all of the goodies which i saw and had a blast fragging people with and so if you will to wait for the demo you will see what i mean.
The reason i game it a 4 was because i could not warrant a 5 start since i only played the beta.I will get this and so should you.
I would say this to all people planing on getting the game, play the demo first so if its not your cup of tea then you say your self some money. But if you want a better demo don't put pressure on them to rush the demo like 03 was.pressure them to make a new and better product.I am Willing to wait and so should you.

Great game for UT fans

This is a great game whether you have played the games from the beginning of the series, or just started on this one.

The game itself is awesome, only one disk, since it is on a DVD plus the bonus disk with a bunch of extras. The game is better than 2003, but only in that the graphics are tweaked, more maps, the addition of vehicles for use, extra multiplayer game types, more characters, and voice recognition. The only drawback is that the weapons are pretty much the same as last years'. But for the fans of the game, the A.I. is actually tougher this go round. I beat the 2003 version in a few hours, this one is more of a challenge.

The biggest thing in this package versus the other one with the 4 CD's instead of the DVD, is the Logitech Headset. With this thing you can control your computer controled or human teammates by speaking to them in game, or just use it to chat on the web. Whatever floats your boat.

Only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5, is like I said they really didn't add to the weapons enough, but well worth buying. I mean come on if you own the 2003 version they give you a $10 rebate for upgrading.

March 8th placed an order with Mwave - cat:item 2170046 - UT2004 DVD Special Edition for $33.99. Several weeks past as well as two back order notices. In the meantime I noticed Mwave's catalogue no longer listed my item 2170046. Now they listed 2170082 which of course is the CD-ROM version for the same $33.99. Can everyone see where I'm going with this? Just received an email from Roger Lai at Mwave. Clever guy - Due to a shortfall from Manufacturer, UT2004 DVD special edition is no longer available, but if you'd like the CD-ROM version it's ready to ship - for the same price. Oh and there will soon be a 2 DVD set without headphones available but we don't know when to expect it...no mention of price. You can check Ebay but expect to pay 3 to 5 times the MSRP. The guy that bought 10 copies for 29.99 at Fry's should be ashamed of himself, depriving the rest of us. Ashamed all the way to the bank that is!!! My game name whether it's UT2004, BF1942, Halo, etc is PhreaKing, and I'm preaking mad, dissappointed, unfullfilled, yeah! You get the picture.

Best Buy was selling both editions of the game for 30$ when it was released. They sold out at stores all over. What people fail to realize is that these Video Tutorials are free downloads at the people who make them. You are getting a free head-set though, which is a plus. Giveing out the Tutorials was a way to get them to people who did not have a fast internet connection to download them. This is in NO WAY worth 90$. It is the same game except with a free headset. Tell you what, buy the game from Best Buy (or anywhere else for 30$) and spend an extra 10 for the Headset. This was a good deal when it came out, which is why it gets the high rating. You save about 10$ and a whole lot of time that would have been spent sitting on your butt downloading them. Good game is another plus. To get my full review of the game check the normal PC review. 4 Stars for the original low price and extras anyways though. Good move by Atari and their marketing strategy.

As a prior student of Jason Busby (3DBuzz.com), I have to say that this DVD combo will be incredible. He's created 23 new VTMs just for this special edition. To get a feel for his style of training, you can download VTMs that were created for UT2003 on his website... FREE.

For those of you that are fans of UT2003, just wait till you see what's in 2004... although I'm sure you've been following the developement of this game quite closely. The only thing better than playing a wicked game, is to actually develope mods for the game.

I bought a DVD drive for my PC, just for this special edition release.
