Hunt or be Hunted

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 25 / 25

One thing that I want to make clear is that Dangerous Hunts is a hunting simulation. It is not an arcade shooter like Halo.
Only an idiot would compare this game to Halo, because they are different games. In this game, patience and strategy play an important part of getting your trophy. You can pick your equipment, from guns, to rifles, to crossbows, clothing, food rations, whistle calls, baits for luring animals and more! Picking your equipment is just part of the fun as you try to figure out what will be useful against certain targets. You can hunt a variety of animals including deers, lions, bears, coyotes, wolves, elks and more. You also have the choice to hunt in many regional map locals. The graphics look amazing and really convey that immersive feel. The sound effects are realistic and sound crisp, from the sound of gunfire, the howling of animals, the blowing of winds and your footsteps on the many ground textures. There is only music in the game menu, but once you are in the "hunt", all you hear are the ambient sound of the outdoors. It certainly works that way because you don't need music to mask the sound of a nearby target/predator approaching you (for a kill). The controls are preset a bit odd, but can be learned. The action is slow paced as you search for your target, but suddenly you'll feel sweaty as have your target in sight. There are a few game modes and they all place the targets in random locations, making the game unpredictable. Add to the low sticker price of the game and Bam! You have a winner! If you have patience to seek out your target and want to play a good hunting simulation, I highly recommend this game!

Pros:
+great graphics
+good controls
+lots of maps
+lots of targets
+lots of equipment
+immersive
+great sound effects
+great artificial intelligence
+free form gameplay
+budget price game

Cons:
-not for the kids
-very slow pace

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts amazed me. Give it a try

Activision is writing the good reviews!

Don't be fooled by the long detailed and positive reviews. Donna Johnston from NY is listed in the credits of all the Cabela titles as the QA Lead. Why is she giving her review on the games she worked on which you see on every Cabela game? It looks like Activision is paying their employees to write reviews for them. This game has poor graphics and is tedious and boring. There are much better hunting games out there. Don't waste your money on their falsely advertized garbage.

Solid Hunting Game

PROS: Good graphics. Nice ambient sound effects. Wide variety of hunting regions and animals. Good selection of gear(hand guns, rifles, binoculars, etc) CONS: Not violent enough(when animals attack you, it's pretty dull). First person perspective can be awkward and dizzying(I would have liked a third person perspective option). If there was a third person perspective and the maulings were more graphic, I would give this game 5 stars. As is, I'll give it 4 and a recommendation.

Cabelas has made a couple of neat hunting games through the years but none have been as fun as this one. You get too chose from a whole bunch of weapons and hunt fasinating animals. It really gets your heart pumping.

Made in Romania!

Do they even have hunting or know anything about it in Romania? They cleary don't know much about it which explains why your run out of breath after five seconds in the game and have to walk painfully slow 90% of the time. Also you can walk around while you shoot which my dad would kick my ass for doing. It turns out Cabela's Big Game Hunter, Cabela's Deer Hunt 2004, and Cabela's Dangerous Hunts for the Playstation 2, Xbox, and PC versions are all made in Romania. No wonder Sunstrom, the originator of the game went out of business here in Indiana. I was so pissed I returned this pile of garbage. Any self respecting American should do the same, or not buy any of these games in the first place. You think they could at least make a hunting game in the states. I'm going to wait for Deer Hunter on the Playstaion 2 which is made in the good ole U.S.A. plus the PC version is way better than Cabela's.

in this game you must first go through a very long and thorough getting ready process.then, after a while, you get to go hunt!its pretty straight forward.you are guy with gun.you go kill animals.but wait!whats this?those of you without your contacts in wont even notice the animals until your screen is flashing red indicating you are being mauled or eaten or shredded or.............what im trying to say is:gone are the old days of you takibg pot shots at helpless animals.now the animals are pissed and will kill YOU.thats different.there are many cool guns to choose from.a sniper rifle is the best so as to avoid being a bears lunch.but if youre feeling froggy, take a shotgun.now youll have to get right up on that deer before you splatter its guts!you also get a backup pistol.just take a .44."the most powerful handgun in the world".be sure and come prepared all you non-boy scouts or youll run out of bullets while a wart hog is gnawing on your leg.theres nothing worse than being gored while youre trying to fight off a viscious beast with a bowie knife.theres tons of options and many modes.the modes vary in the frequency of animals youll encounter.it goes from "dang i wish i brought my beer cause id rather pass out and die in the cold im so bored" all the way up to "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my tendons are being severed by a team of wolves!!!!!!!".so,find your comfort zone and bring your patience!then go make some jerky!this game is a lot like shellshock nam 67 except your battling critters instead of commies.

Great guns this game rocks!

The game is very frustrating. With the default equipment you get tired very quickly with every character. I know they are trying to be realistic but realistically you would need a truck to carry half the basic set of equipment. You get tired just walking up a little hill and you walk extremely slow most of the time. The hunting areas are really small, it is like hunting in somebody's backyard. You can easily trap the animals against the hills and they run in circles until you kill them, which is not much of a challenge. You also have to wait for the game to load all the time. You walk just a few hundred feet and then have to wait for the LOADING..... To further add to the frustration, you frequently slide down the smallest hill and it says you are too injured to go on, and yes, you guessed it, more of that LOADING.... Also, if you walk or slip into the water you can't get out and guess what, yes, you guessed it again, LOADING.... Like if that was not enough, you will get in trouble for shooting near a building. You do it twice and, oh, the suspense is killing you, I know it.... LOADING..... ARRRGAHHH!!!! I could go on, and, well, I think I will. When you use the vehicles they are really hard to drive. Most of the time I get stuck in trees or drive off a cliff or into the water and LOADING.... They should change the name of this game to Cabela's LOADING.... All I wanted to do was some hunting. My final thought is RETURNING.....

great game

I am 9 years old. This game has really good graphics. When the animals get close, it gets blurry, it's cool. You get rifles, handguns, daggers, and knives. You should buy this game, its graphics are almost as good as Hunting Unlimited 1,2,and 3. I bet you will like it. BUY IT.
