I wanted to like this game

This game has a very big learning curve. It took me a long time to "get it" on how to play the game. Unfortunately, just as it started getting interesting it would crash around turn 35 or so just as I began to win. As a result, after investing many hours in this game, I still don't know what happens when I win it. Read the review. It is very accurate.

Best game ever

This is the greatest game in the world. It is so cool how you can blow up buildings and kill cops and bribe people. I can't wait until Gangsters2. Parents don't worry this game isn't influential because it is fake and in the 1920's

Complex but fun. Thank goodness for the pause button

If you like the era, and if you like micromanaging as you build an empire (here, a business and crime empire), this is a fun game. The strong points include nearly infinite replayability, its nice mix of strategy (mixing legal and illegal businesses) and tactics (arranging and responding to street ambushes and hits), and the amusing grace notes -- like bribing police, intimidating jurors, and torching rival speakeasies The designers went to great lengths to give the gamer many choices, both strategic (there are three ways to win) and tactical. The game's drawbacks include the steep learning curve, a rather cumbersome interface, and the difficulties of keeping track of multiple events happening all over the map; the pause button helps here, but if you try to keep on top of everything, each game turn (one week) can become long and tedious. This is definitely for your more cerebral moods, not when you want a beer-and-pretzel quick and easy game.

Great game, little slow

This is a great game. It is fun, intense and takes much thought. The premise is a 1920's generic city that is loaded with gangsters. Your job is to run a crime syndicate and take over the city by defeating the other crime organizations, aquiring much wealth and owning a lot of property. The game is fun to play but it can be slow sometimes and a little repetitive. The game takes thinking too and isn't just a "run-around, shoot 'em up." You must negotiate with other crime bosses and pay off city officals. Making hits is great as well as bombing buildings. The game is surprisingly realistic and has much detail. Besides the fact that the game can be slow at the times, I highly recommend it. I wish I could give it a 4 1/2 stars. If your interested in the Mafia and some strategy, I highly recommend purchasing this game.

I found this game to be very fun and stimulating. The game is quite difficult especially in handling your tasks once the week started. The wars with the other gangsters are very quick, sudden, and bloody, often with you losing more men than the enemy. My overall opinion of this game is it is pretty entertaining, but i hope now that Eidos will make another one without the difficulties of the first one.Now that the game type is out, I believe there will be more to follow.I believe this is a good game for the price. There will undoubtedly be more and better mafia games to come.

Even after a year its still good

The only problem with this game is it has a high learning curve. But really all you have to do is follow along in the instruction book and you'll figure it out in no time. When I first played I went straight to playing so I was lost. Don't be dumb like me... follow the instructions. You'll be thinking about your gangsters all of the time. The only problem I found is that there wasn't enough interaction. As in like if you could go walk around in your casino in first person and stuff. The greatest part of the game is that your always having problems. Either you have cops knocking on your door 24-7, or an opposing Gangster is moving in next door. It's your job to get rid of the gangster and maybe pay off the cops. And you have to think like a gangster in the 20s. You can't just kill kill kill. Or you'll be arrested before you can say you rule the city. You have three different ways of winning. Run for mayor, defeat everyone, or be a millionare and just walk away. Bad part is you can't verse people like "Lucky" Luciano, Al Capone, and Bugsy Moran. But still an awesome game. Highly recommended to strategy gamers.

Wait for the sequel...

I think the Gamespot review was right on the money. This is a great game in the making, but its not quite there yet. The idea and graphics are brilliant, but the interface is tricky and prone to bugs. Buy it if you have the extra cash, but otherwise wait until a sequel comes out.

Not bad at all...........

This is a pretty cool game. Its VERY challenging, I only know one person who's finished it. You do have to like strategy games to like this though, because there isn't much else to it. I mean theres not much interaction in the gunfights, its not much of an adventure because its slow-paced, it is strategy pure and simple. The concept is very cool, it can get a bit repetitive though. And its slow, you don't get much action until you advance a bit in the game. In general its a cool game.... theres something addictive about it... but be warned, its not for everyone.

Great Game

This is the best gangster game I have ever seen! The only reason it is not a five star is the fact that it is hard to get started with. But once you get the hang of it is easy! With scenerios and long game it ranks the best game i have! For additional help get the Prima Strategy Guide.

This game is Terrible!

If your idea of fun is running spreadsheets and playing hunt and click with your mouse, then this is the game for you. If you want a serious simulation of the 1920's ganster era, move on. There is plenty of chrome in the game and a lot of fun concepts, but the bottom line is that its a spreadsheet game that has you more interested in completing columns than robbing banks. The action part of the game has a cumberson interface that leaves your "crooks" out of control and more often dead than alive. You are barraged by red herring audio clues and an inablity to find where signifcant audio items have occured. Think long and hard before you buy this game.
