Very much like flying a real airplane

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

I have had this program for eight years. I also have a friend with an airplane who takes me with him from time to time. I find this program enhances my meager skills enough that if he suddenly blacked out, I could get us back to the airport and safely landed.

I do not have a pilot's license and have never taken flying lessons, other than what my friend has shown me.

Newer programs have more aircraft, more airports, and more scenery; but this program still does all of the basics you need for flying a real plane, and does them well. This program has more features than I will ever use. Using it will also make you a better, calmer airline passenger. You will know more about what the pilot is doing and how the plane is responding.

I do not have a joy stick, but use the number buttons on the right end of my keyboard for controls.

Satisfying my father

I purchased Flight Simulator '98 for my father. When this product first came out, I purchased it for my father who was a private pilot for over 40 years. He enjoyed it very much and really liked the detail it contained, right down to the towers of the Limerick, PA power plant. We have lived in the shadow of that plant since it was erected and it has been part of my father's flight patterns taking off and landing at both Limerick and Pottstown airports.

Apparently, one day the disc cracked and he was no longer able to use this particular version of Flight Simulator. He has several others, but for some reason these do not include the power plant and some other features of our area.

I turned to Amazon because in the past I have been able to get some hard-to-find CD's, DVD, tapes, etc. and thought I would give it a try. Amazon was able to provide me with what I wanted and my dad is now able to "fly" with the proper scenery.

Thanks

Amazon - Thank You For Stocking Great Vintage Product

Those of us that enjoy Microsoft's original Combat Flight Simulator require this product for certain enhancements. I purchased this product to obtain additional Scenery Areas and Aircraft to add to CFS. I am also an avid user of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, however if you have some older model computers lying around that you want to delegate to a simulator role, than this late 90's vintage software will work with the older processors, video cards and smaller hard drives. There still are plenty of add ons available on the internet to enhance the experience. Enjoy your flights!

I think this game is like your realy flying. It's so reallistic,
and you can use a joystick or the keyboard. their's the Bell2O6,
a heilcopter, and more. And the 1916 war plane the Sopwithcamel.
I think you should buy this cool aircraft game. You can even make
videos. Buy this game and you will be on an aventure of your time.

Land on water?

Land on water and taxi toward the shoreline... Microsoft even allows you to submerse the aircraft and then climb out!

As a copilot, I recommend not purchasing any Microsoft sims. Go for Origin's (JANES) simulators. There programmers are far superior at creating realistic aircraft flying experiences.

Not That Exciting

While impressive in features, Flight Simulator 98 is geared toward enthusiasts, not those who want get flying quickly and start diving under bridges, etc.

If you've never owned a FlightSim before, I'd recommend buying an older, cheaper version to see if you like this type of program.

ok........but what do you expect it's 6 years old

This game is good for it's day, however i would recomend flight sim. 2002 or 2004.The grafics seem odd. It's just like some 3d buildings on a blob of paint.Fun when you buy it but gets boring after you've had it for 6 years like me.
