I'd have my doubts about this one....

I'm sorry to say Hexen just did not live up to be the game I thought it would. Compared to what people expected and found in other games, Hexen's graphics are bad enough to make you develop I migraine (exagerrating). There is not a wide range of weapons for each class. The ending is not worth defeating about 30 levels (many of which are nearly impossible) for. I'm sorry, but I feel the truth must be known, this was a bad game.

an absolutley tasteless game with horrible graphics

You'd have more fun playing a homade version of Pong made from 2 pencils and a hockey puck. You are a guy who hasn't shaved in god knows when, smashing grunting bulls with drawn on animated wepons like:a wand, your fists with spiky gloves, and a mace. The object of the game is to hit every thing that comes into your range of sight, and if your blind, you'd just smash everything. I'm not being blunt either. And in the intro, a stupid and extremely idiotic guy says "greetings, mortal." The only thing that makes him immortal is because he has gone through puberty 19 times because he reminds us of our garbage disposals. Hmmmmm... I wonder if he has discovered his smelly armpits. He's probably too busy to explore puberty because he's exploring his own small dark world of grunting psychos and drunk bulls. For all you people who like the game, it would be mor educational to stare at a piece of paper with toenail clippings on it. And to all of the people who do not have it, we reccomend not getting it. Trust us. P.S. The only reason we have it is because we got it from "Santa"

Its an OK game, lacked in the weopons area

This game was really fun, except for one fact, the WEOPONS! They should have made more then 4 and i mean come ON! The weopons themselves also lacked in alot of areas. the 1st 2 characters' weopons are up close, and the last guys' stupid wand is more then weak. then he gets the frost shards which is more then annyoing, because you have to fire simutaneosly at a guy till they freeze, which they ALWAYS got in my way. the fighter is too up close if you ask me, but his last weopon is probably the best in the game, but the clerics last weopon shoots souls? whats up with that? and the mages last weopon has to be the worst because you ALWAYS miss and it costs you alot of mana. but the mages 3rd weopon was cool, but tottally inaccurate. the cleric actually gets a spell for a 3rd, but it's HORRIBLE it should take 2 or 1 shot to take down one of those 2 headed guys, but it takes 3 to 5 shots to get em down. the fighter's hammer ALSO goes up close but then OH MY GOD IT ACTUALLY SHOOTS AT A GUY WHAT A MIRACLE!!! So if your looking for a game that has alot of cool weopons n stuff, stay away from this game! but if you could careless about that, and is looking for a strategy challenge, then buy this right away.

pre turok in my mind but not as good a solid 3 stars because it is harder than turok

I really wanted to like Hexen 64. It's like a fantasy version of doom, and the storyline and atmosphere are damn good. You can play as a weak but magically powerful mage, a strong but magically weak fighter, or a balanced cleric. But this game has waaayyy too many problems. I didnt' even experience the jumping bug in the editorial review either. The first couple levels, i was hooked. It reminded me of warcraft II: trying to save your homeland from impending doom by ringing the bell and such was awesome. And the fact that the enemies teleport in only adds to the gameplay, as you never know whether you've cleared an area or not. The items are cool, and the mazelike and puzzle aspects woulld've been where it really shined, had they been done right.
unfortunately, not the case. Firstly, the horrible graphics reminded me of jurassic park on snes, as the entirely identical backgrounds provided with not-so-great maps caused me to get lost over and over again, thus killing the mood. Also, in the 4th level or so and on, you hit a switch, and it could open something up on a random spot in ANOTHER LEVEL. This caused me to give up, as i have no interest in searching a level over and over for some obscure doorway or whatever. Also, when i cheated to find the later levels wikthout said searching, i found the end-game bosses to be clones of the you!!! this is just lame imo, they couldn't even be bothered to make up cool end-game bosses? Also, jumping sucks ass in this game, so save often.

A classic, yes... but...

Short and simple. Playing this game reminded me of the first games to come out when we crawled out of DOS and jumped into WinDoze. A decent enough first-person shooter - but the graphics are bad enough that I haven't played it ages. What a waste for a 64 bit machine.

SOMEWHAT BORING AND KINDA STALE 5.75 OUT OF 10

Hexen looks and plays almost identically to Doom except it's not as fun and it uses ancient weaponry and magic instead of guns. This game could've been deamed a classic, but unfortunately boredom mars the experience. Yes, you will find yourself bored and confused as to what you're supposed to do. The enemy designs look pretty cool, but the level designs are bland and uneventful. Speaking of enemies, they're pretty stupid... and I play the game on Archimage the hardest difficulty. Your missions are not very exciting along with the use of your weapons and magic, so you'll never feel like you rule all when you do with your powers as you feel in the Xbox 360 masterpiece Bioshock. Just go play Doom instead, unless you're looking for a Doom ripoff(If so, please avoid Zero Tolerance).
