Don't let the cover of Asteroids Hyper 64 fool you!

I went to buy a Nintendo 64 game, and Asteroids 64 caught my eye. I looked at the cover, which showed a 3d spaceship blasting asteroids with lasers. On the back, it showed screenshots that apeared to have aimer and you looking through the cockpit. I love these kinds of games, so I bought it. You are flying in a 2d spaceship blasting asteroids with little green balls. In the manual it says somewhere in the game is the 1979 version of Asteroids to play. But take my word for it. It basiclly is the 1979 version.

Not as bad as everyone says.

You can never expect everyone to like every game, heck, I dislike some that are very popular, but here's my two cents. I've heard nothing but people rip this game apart so I just had to check it out for myself. Perhaps it is the fact that I have fond memories of the original, or maybe my expectations were set so low that I wouldn't be disappointed, but I like this game! The reviewer who said "iit might as well be the 1979 version" obviously never played it. This game, like Space Invaders, is a great facelift to an outdated arcade classic. The graphics are just fine, and the powerups add something as well. I also like the different asteroids that break up and come at you. Also, the same reviewer said he couldn't find the original version hidden in this game. I believed that because so often, they make it very hard to unlock or find. However, on my very first time playing this, I got past level 15 (it might have been 12) and before the next level started, the screen said "1979 Asteroids now available". If I had a controller pack, I'm sure I could have saved it and played it later, however, I can get it again. Obviously not a 5 star game what with Perfect Dark abnd what not out there, but I found it well worth the modest price. Again, if you're under the age of 25 and don't really remember the original, you may not enjoy it as much as us 80's kids do! Give it try!

Better than people say...

The classic returns for a Tour de Force

This game is one of the classic, back-in-the-day, old school memories that would give a gamer a romp through gaming Nirvana. This I sincerely thought that the game did exceed the abilities and beyond of it's prequel and accomplished this rather nicely. Asteroids 64 had a very hard time winning me over as I am not one to let go of the classics very easily for something that just "Looks Better". If I had to say it though, this game delivers. Its playability will keep you going for a great while without even thinking about it and the sounds and graphics are decent despite the Nintendo 64 running the rather above average graphics. Does this game lack in the least, not noticably and it will keep the average gamer going for some time before the contemplation of a break crosses his mind. If you can pick this up, I recommend it, truly a classic.

I really enjoy asteroids, there is no special reason why, I just like it. I usually don't like action/shooting type of games, but Asteroids is different. Now that I have my own computer, I think it would be fun to have on my computer.... Thank you, Sincerely, Susan

A moderate revival of the classic arcade game

Asteroids Hyper is an okay game overall. However, it does has some flaws. First of all is that it's not a game that will keep you interested for hours at a time. It's also pretty difficult sometimes to keep your ship on track and avoid asteroids and comets. Another problem are the UFOs that come by. The big ones are hardly even worth the effort and one would wonder why they even bothered putting them in the game. The smaller ones aren't that much better. They're a whole lot more difficult than anything else in the game (except for bosses) because they are almost impossible to his and will almost always destroy you with their first shot. This makes them very frustrating to kill. The sound isn't exactly top-notch. The music is definetly not good and there is none during the game itself. However, the whole game does have the classic arcade feel to it and that's hard to beat. There are also things that make life in the asteroid belt a little easier to bear like power-ups and shields (although the shields hardly last very long, but it can make a difference). The graphics are not the best, but passable. They are very limited because of the fact that it's a reministic as possible of the original Asteroids. This is a fair game. Fans of the classic should check this one out, but anyone else might want to try it out first before buying.

THIS GAME IS A JOKE
