I gave this game 4 stars simply because if you buy this game you pretty much know what your getting. It's no milestone in the gaming industry by no means, however the game is intended for children and/or huge SpongeBob fans. If your either one or both this game shouldn't disappoint you. I love SpongeBob and I'm 27 years old. The voices in the game are the same as the voices from the popular cartoon. This adds to the game for those that are big fans of the cartoon. The graphics are o. k. and very SpongeBob-ish. The gameplay is pretty simple, even though you might have to do the same thing over and over before getting it right. The story is simple and it goes like this... SpongeBob Squarepants has let the Flying dutchman out of a magic bottle. The Dutchman has altered SpongeBob's friend's and even his pet snail Gary, he has turned them against SpongeBob. Now SpongeBob must return things back to normal by returning the evil Flying Dutchman back into the bottle. Well, that about does it. ~A cute SpongeBob game for fans of all ages.

This game has you searching for treasures, doubloons, and letter tiles in Bikini Bottom, Jellyfish Fields, Chum World, and more in Spongebob's new adventure, sterting when Spongebob releases the Flying Dutchman from his endless slumber.

I have actually only borrowed the game and I only have it for two days, so I am racing to get the entire thing completed. It is not easy. I would assume that a Spongebob game would be easy, since little kids would want to play it (I'm 13, by the way), but there are some tough challenges. One of the benefits of the game, though, is that Spongebob has unlimited lives, and I am able to finish them after killing off Spongebob 20 or so times. (to please the children, no doubt) And there aren't many hard challenges, so I'll be able to complete this (hopefully).

One of the things I found disappointing was that you have to do things in the correct order or you'll mess up and have to start over the game (or you'll have to return to one of your previous save files). I'll give you an example, as I've found this in various places. When Sandy's Tree Dome first became available, I couldn't find it. So when I bought the "acorn", I didn't bring it to her. This was a mistake, as Squidward packed up his garage sale, acorn and all, and I couldn't get the letter tiles required to finish the game.

An interesting side note is that the story kind of builds, and, personally, I want to find out what's happening to my little ocean friends (especially since there are only five of them in the game, not counting the thugs that you have to kill)! There are only two of them left!

I know that if I finish this game, I am returning it and never looking back. This is not a replayable game. Too long, too tedious (how many times can you collect doubloons?), too annoying. And the music, though good, gets annoying after an hour or so since there are only four tracks to match your four costumes. So buy at your own risk. I would recommend renting or borrowing this, and if you deem it replayable, going out and buying it.

Too hard and frustrating

You need to be a precise jumper and enjoy games that require precise, skillful jumping to finish this. I'm quitting on the next to the last level, Goo Lagoon, because I need to complete three very difficult jumping sequences, and the game doesn't give you checkpoints. If you fall, even at close to the end, you have to do all the jumps all over again. And the camera angles sometimes create optical illusions -- the jump isn't as hard or is harder than it seems.

I've found many people complaining they couldn't find 100 jellyfish in Jellyfish Fields, and that's because there is one sub-area that is very difficult to locate. You need to get a walkthrough from gamefaqs.com and study the map. (This game really needed maps like Tas the Tasmanian Tiger game provides.) And I doubt I could have finished the circus area without some advice from a walk-through about what to do with the cannons.
And you'll really get frustrated unless you know in advance that some areas you cannot complete until you have completed things in other areas and obtained another costume, clue or instruction.

It helps to know the characters in Spongebob. Some characters and places I just kept walking by instead of interacting with until my husband -- who is 37 and watches Spongebob! -- pointed out who or what they were.

More power to these kids who finish the game in one to three days! God bless you little ones. (I am 52.)

very good

This game is very fun! The levels like downtown and jellyfish fields are interesting. On every level you have to complete challenges to get letters of SpongeBob's name. I think this game is one of my favorites. SpongeBob rocks!!!

The Spongebob video game was fun..until my sis(10 years old) beat it the 3rd day after we bought it..some things are challenging, but after you beat them it is really easy, and its not really a game you'd want to play again and again

I bought this game and I rate it 5 stars.Just because Battle for bikini bottom has better graphics and music, doesn't mean it's not a great game. A great game is the fun of the game, not the graphics. Sheesh! A good game is when you have fun playing it. A bad game without looking at the graphics is like manhole of something. Game boys have bad graphics but they're still fun. Anyway, I love this game. I'd buy it if I were you.
