Excellent game play

I've been playing B&W for seveal years now and finally purchased the second, B&W 2. I've got to say that I'm impressed with the improvements in the game all around. The graphics and story have improved and keep me very interested in the game play. The game uses most of the same mechanics and principals of B&W but has changed enough to continue making playing more of a challenge. I give this game a 9 on a scale from 1 - 10. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy the original.

Oh look, Leader, you've earned tribute!

I've thoroughly enjoyed this game since it first came out. And it can't be a bad game, if every time I buy it, someone steals it, right?!

The graphics are a huge improvement of B&W. The creatures aren't much brighter, but then, if they were, they'd be harder to train... The people are still super needy, and yes, they still whine for more housing, but then rapidly make too many more babies as soon as you build more houses, so that's still the same.

On the whole, it's just a prettier, slightly more complex version of B&W.

My only real problem seems to be getting the mouse controls confused with The Sims 2 when I switch back and forth between games... ;)

On the whole, buy it. It's a fabulous way to waste many hours of your life.

My favorite game

Ok, after reading most of the reviews here, I am frankly disgusted by how I see people whining about it. The largest complaint, the boring tutorials, I found interesting. I never look at tutorials in any game I play, but I like the tutorial in B&W2, as it gives you free tribute. Also, I play Halo, Battlefield 2, and plenty of other fast-paced games. I still love this game, even though it gets boring after a while. Also, as some seem to be complaining, "Oh, it makes my kids want to be evil," I would like to point out that if your kids can be that easily influenced by a computer game, then you should have a talk with them.
I have played almost every strategy/RTS/City-builder game that I can find, and I say decisively that B&W2 is at least #2 out of all of them. I think the game is great, and seems to resemble the soon-coming game SPORE, for those of you who know it.
In summary, this is a great game, for people who are not addicted to blood, gore and violence, but rather for people who love a challenge, and a good deal of autonomy.

Very fun and addicting

This game starts out slow but once you get going you will find yourself spending hours and hours on it. It may be a bit confusing training your creature at first because some of the things it does is a mixture of good and evil and depending on how you want to be seen it can be hard to control.
Also it says you can be good or evil but after level 2 it's almost as if you have to be good because the armies are to big to just over run right from the start.

Pretty Daggone Awesome

If your system can handle this game, I definitely recommend it. It really is an amazing "God game" with complete control over almost everything you come across. The graphics are also quite astounding, with great views and amazing detail put into all surfaces. The level of interaction with everything really gives the sense of being in the game and acting upon real people and objects. AI is also well developed, allowing for a good level of automation from your subjects and creature.

The only downside I've found is some small amount of graphics bugs when running this on max resolution. The water will sometimes black out when hovering at a high altitude. Other than that this is pretty awesome.

Great Sevice!

great game, I highly belive on buying games when they are 1 or 2 years old, the reasom I say that is because most all developers let the game out way to early before the game is all worked out and bugs are fixed bugs which are fixed throught patches, if game developers really want to sell a good game make one with all bugs worked out, this game has not flaws that I found, well made game, fun to play. but always down load a demo before buying, thats what i have been doing for years and in all my games, i dont have any games that i regret buying.

To everyone who played the original Black and White you will knotice many advances in how the creature learns in Black and White 2. Added features also include a ton of buildings that you can build, armies you can raise and miracles that you can cast. Also with the addon that starts right where you leave off in the main game it makes the whole story very enjoyable.

perfect example of the dark path of RTS graphics over gaming.

black and white 2 has a lot going for it.. fairly unique ideas (at least more unique than the rest of the crap the gaming industry is putting out, though probably not as unique as, say, katamari damacy), a great sense of humor, wonderful graphics..

uh oh, what are we missing here? OH YEAH! great controls and gameplay! two of the most important things in a game! oops! see, black & white 2 is a very "3d" game, and while this looks great, unfortunately it makes it a huge pain to move around between the 10 million camera views. now, other games have been 3d and have been easy to move around in with a default camera view, such as dawn of war. but you won't find that here. here, instead of moving to the sides of the screen to scroll view (DUH, every game has this feature, it's the most obviously easy way to get around an RTS game for years and years), you have to right click and then scroll the screen up, down, left or right. annoying! if you want to click a villager, good luck because with 10 million camera views and depths to choose from, all in 3d, it's hard to target your hand on to the villager.

it's not that i hate this game.. if it had a more simplified camera and controls, i'd probably like it a lot. but i'm not going to spend all my time & energy in a game trying to get to the right camera depth so i can see what's going on and trying to grab things. heck, it makes me want to go grab some console game, where i don't have to deal with this annoying crap.

An Average Game...

Black and White had some great innovations that really set the bar for Lionhead. Black and White II has changed the paradigm, for better or worse.
My biggest complaint is the lack of multiplayer. A game like Black and white has such huge potential for fun, exciting multiplayer yet it is strangely lacking, despite the fact that the first game supported it. They must have gotten lazy.
Another mixed blessing is the gameplay changes. The creature is far less important, which some gamers will love. You won't need to micromanage him...and if you want to wholesale ignore him it won't much matter. Gamers who enjoyed that aspect will be dissapointed.
They have released a patch that enables you to skip the tutorial parts of the game, but that really should have been included in release...the most annoying part of black and white I was the stupid "this is how to move your mouse" section that you had to endure every new game.
Overall, Black and White 2 fails to really deliver. However, it still is an average game, but don't expect it to wow you at the same level as the first one.
