Silly to complain....

Really, if you don't have the Sims 2 already this is a fantastic deal! But if you DO already have Sims 2 - then you can get just the holiday items from the EA website. But to slam the company just because you didn't read the fine print, no wait, LARGE print on the package, seems silly. It is not uncommon in this day and age for a company to re-release and/or bundle things together. Read the product descriptions to avoid confusion - simple as that!

The sims 2

(Writing in a hurry)
I know some people said this pack is horrible but that is onl because they already had the sims 2. If you don't have the sims 2 yet you should get it. If you do, don't. Last night I went looking for the sims 2 and couldn't find it anywere and then found it in toys r us. I almost got the sims to and then I saw the holiday adithon for only four cents more so of coarse I got it. Here is my rating:

grathics:10/10
I don't know how it looks on other computers but since I have a Radian 9050 I have everything on full.

Family creater:8/10
A big improvment from the sims 1 but could be better. Like how can old grandparents have perfect teeth!

Items:6/10
There are hardly any items to choose. Be preperared to spend atleast around $70-$100 dollars to have a decent amount of stuff.
Being a teenager and having hardly any money after buying a new burton snowboard and an Ipod video I only have a limited amount of money

Over all 8/10. there are other stuff I didn't talk about but if you have a powerful computer and have atleast $100 to spend then this is for you.
(If you buy all the sims 2 packs its $180)
I hope this rewiew helped

Beware of EA customer service!

Just so you know, if you buy this game (or any other EA game) for your children, you cannot make a back-up copy of the game. And if your child happens to scratch the disk (which, seeing as they are kids, is a possibility), it'll cost you a ridiculous $13 to replace it.

This happened to me (with the original Sims 2). The people I spoke to at EA games were extremely unfriendly. When I asked why it was so expensive to replace 1 CD, I was told that they are charging me for the software again (even though I already paid for that when I bought the game originally).

Apparently it is their 'company policy' to rip off their customers.

After I was told this by a 'warranty person', I called again to speak to an operator.
The operator I had on the phone refused to put me through to someone who could take down a complaint, and actually hung up on me!

I whole heartily agree with some of the other reviewers who are saying that EA is only after making easy $$ at the expense of their customers. Any way they think they can!

It's Pretty Simple

It's not that hard guys. The Sims 2 Holiday Edition is the whole Sims 2 plus 40 holiday items. For those of you who think that it's a big holiday rip-off, you're not that smart. I've gone to the store and seen the Holiday Edition sold side by side with the original Sims 2. They both sell for the same price. If you want the version with holiday items, then get the holiday edition. If for some reason you want the version without holiday items, get the original Sims 2. In the end you're only ripping yourself off if you get the regular Sims 2 when the holiday edition with some extra items is the same exact price.

well, it depends on how you look at it...

sims 2 holiday edition was not an expansion pack and EA clearly labled that if you pay attention to the site. the name says EDITION not EXPANSION. the other sims2 expnasion games clearly say expansion. it's more like an add on, new items not new interactions.
its a nice edition- new items and you get into the spirit of the holiday. EA can't do everything at once. plus the fact that the Sims 2 + expansion packs are quite big in storage so take caution in Sims2.
12 of the items you can download for free or for a small fee online but sometimes it overpowers your hard drive causing it to crash. or you know the people who publish their work on Sims2.com may have programs that you don't so you cant download on your computer.
it all depends on what angle you look at it. there are many arguments on both sides.

Fun, but at times it would lag and the screen would go blue after so long..

I just got a new dell computer, because i heard the sims 2 was the best to use with dell (from a friend). I made sure i bought enough memory to at least have it work on it. The game works, but if i try to have a lot of families at once, it seems to freeze up more. So i recommend if you have a slower computer and want this game, to only play 1 or 2 families at a time. Other wise, you will get frusterated. I ended up having to re-install the game and start all over when the screen went blue and i couldn't find a way to fix it. Guess i got too carried away with making most of my sims pregnant and making several families at once. lol! But still, it is a fun game, if you like role-playing games and want to start families. Just be careful!

I also like the Sims and Sims 2; however this Holiday Pack is only for new Sims 2 players that do not already own Sims 2. Like many others, it was bought as a gift for me by a non Sims player that did not realize that this is just a fill in to get a share of the holiday dollars, since EA did not have a new expansion pack ready in time. It really is just a marketing ploy and you should take the poor ratings as a clue that this version is just a rip off by Electronic Arts (EA). You should also know that EA has very poor customer technical support and should exercise caution in any EA game you buy. You think they would make this right by providing the free download to any one that was sucked in by this marketing ploy. Bad EA, you should be ashamed. However, thank you Amazon. I always check the Amazon review section by poorest reviews first, which is where you find out the real truth and problems about a product, before purchase. Thank you for providing such a valuable resource to your customers.

Amounts nothing more to a double dip for the same title

Don't get me wrong. I love the Sims2 game and the expansion packs University and Nightlife. But this is clearly nothing more than a rip off, aimed at getting people who don't have the game to think they were getting something special for the holidays. You are not.

The only thing this has is 40 Christmas items that were not in the original game. To top it off, you can download twelve of these items for free from the official site. Not to mention that if you already own the game, you can download the rest of the items from that site for a much smaller fee. But even that 14.99 isn't worth it. There are way too many sites making many of the same items that you can get for 0 items.

Some of the items you get aren't much. There are a lot of new floors and wallpapers that are counted as some of these items. The lights and garland will only hang in one direction, and you can't put them across windows or doors without using a cheat. The same with the wreaths. You can substitute some of your trees for Christmas type trees with decorations, and substitute some of the regular doors for doors with wreaths, but it's kind of a nuisance to have to change everything around then back again. A command to "decorate door" or "decorate outdoor trees" would have been a lot more convenient and easier to use.

There are no really new interactions with the Christmas stuff. If you pet the electric reindeer, you get electrocuted. If you stand under the mistletoe you get kissed. Neither is really a new animation.

If you put the stockings on the fireplace and bake Christmas Cookies, Santa will appear. But he's a rather hapless and annoying Santa. He does chat and intermingle, but all Sims do this. He does not interact with toddlers or hold them on their laps. You would think they would have come up with a little more for the extra price. And Santa will use your bathroom a lot. Oh yeah, he goes ho ho ho a lot.

There are also fireworks in the game for New Year, and I guess Father Time and Baby New Years will appear. I don't know since it's not New Years yet and I haven't tried that holiday. You can also throw a New Years bash, but one party in this game is pretty much the same as the others.

If you don't have the game yet and are looking to buy it, then this will be okay. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

Next time read!!!

I bought for my cousin who NEVER played the Sims 2 game and she loves it. I already have all The sims 2 games and went to EA and downloaded it. Stop giving the game bad reviews because you guys didn't read the box before buy it. No where on the box dose it say "expanion pack".

Do not buy

This is just the same old game with 2 or 3 new items that you can download for free. Plus it comes with the full Sims 2 game (just to bump up the price) that will screw your game (overlapping files) if you already have it installed.

I have stopped buying EA games after playing the original Sims 2 for half an hour. They care too much about $$$ and don't give a crap about quality.

This is the same old game with a different package. Avoid.
