Cool graphics--Great value

I bought this game at my local office supply store and got a good price for it. The game I bought had a Monopoly watch included, too. It's worth the money, but there are a few flaws. You can customize the board, but if you save the game to play another time, the board reverts to the "Classic" board (with Baltic, Oriental, etc). The street names are mixed up on a few of the City boards; the two most expensive properties on the board will be (for example) "A" and "B" on the board, but the title deeds will be "B" and "A". Also, with the City boards, the Chance cards don't change. For example on the Washington D.C. board, the card "Advance token to Boardwalk" doesn't change to "Advance token to the Capitol." When you land on the Chance square on the fourth side of the board and draw the Go Back 3 Spaces card and move back to Community Chest, a Community Chest card isn't drawn. The token's comments are repetitive and annoying, and I've found it more fun to turn off the sound on my computer. BUT, this is a great value. If you stick to the classic board or can work around the annoyances with the street names on the City Boards, you'll have a lot of fun. The camera angles are cool. The ability to set your own rules (about Free Parking, number of houses, etc), make it easier to customize each game so that it's like your own house rules. I made custom boards with the street names in my town and with the names of various cities in the area. That was fun. Buy the game. Enjoy yourself. And get ready for some marathon games against the computer, just like in real life!

Like the game, but..

I happen to like playing Monopoly. But when you play this game against the computer opponents, you are in for a strange ride. The computer opponents will mortgage all their properties to fund a monopoly they may have just gotten. Then it would take forever for the computer player to buy houses and hotels.
The computer players hardly ever trade among themselves. After playing the game a few times, I got to where I knew how the computer would react.
I also found that I enjoyed playing the game a lot more when I turned off the token voices and Mr Monopoly's commentary.
Still, this game is a good way to knock off a couple of hours. The rules are pretty basic, and straightforward.
Overall, I would recommend getting this game, as long as you're not expecting too much.

Everyone's played monopoly right?

This game is very true to the original monopoly with all the same spaces, official rules and chance cards. If you want a budget version of the game this is a good choice. Two things I did like was the fact that you can write your own AI scripts for opposing players and that the optional rules that many people use at home are included. You can play with the free parking bonus and make the game a little more or less challenging. I didn't like how repetetive the game was as far as graphics and sounds. Delightful when you first install it but annoying as time goes on. I think as a budget title it gives you good value but monopoly fans may want to spend a few extra bucks to get a newer version with more bells and whistles.

I guess I should not have expected the computer version of Monopoly to be any more exciting than the board game. It is, after all, Monopoly! But at least in the board game, you are moving more muscles than your index finger! I played this game at a relative's house, and I am very glad I did so. I now know not to buy it. Not only is it very slow, but also it is very hard to see. I needed a magnifying glass to view some of the graphics. I do suggest this game for chronic insomniacs--within thirty minutes, you will be out like a light!!!

Wheeling and Dealing Has Never Been So Much Fun

It isn't often that Nephew Computer Game is better than its predecessor, Uncle Board Game. However, the classic game Monopoly is one such case.

Everything about this game is brought to life via the computer version. Every title deed you land on has its own little movie scene, which is a treat to watch in and of itself. Early spaces like Purple Baltic Avenue show nothing but a dump wasteland, dirty fog rising up from its mists. Later spaces like the Blue Boardwalk are so elegantantly designed you still get the feeling of being king (or queen) of the game when you are lucky enough to buy it.

And don't think that the computer players are a joke. They are smarter than you think, and those who are new to the game can easily find themselves being outsmarted by their computer opponent(s).

Other delights abound within this game. The set pieces, such as the Race Car and the Hat and the Cannon having character traits all their own. Each one is unique as it travels around the game board.

A game such as Monopoly for the computer is one of those games that has to be played to fully get the enjoyment out of it. There are many funny videos and sequences in the game, and the background music is great to listen to while playing as well. Give this game a whirl; you're not going to find many games at this cheap of a price that give you more than what you're paying for.

Overall- Pretty Good

It's not too bad when you play the game but you have to admit - the cover's sort of cheesy. It's nice because you can create your own board and choose pictures for it but I made a board and then next time I went on and tried using it but it wouldn't work. The basic idea is worth 5 stars but making it work made me lower by 2 stars. And now whenever I try using it won't work. So Windows ME users - PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME.

Somewhat Disappointing

Graphics are an improvement over the previous Hasbro version of Monopoly, but the special features are annoying. Seriously, how many times do you want to hear "Mr. Monopoly" exclaim, "Eighter from Decateur!" or "Show me the money, Sack!"? Not to mention the annoying animated tokens or the dizzying 3D "camera work."

Trades are confusing, and the computer opponents play the game like crazed lunatics. Wait until one gets a monopoly and starts building houses. The turn will take forever, as the elated opponent gleefully mortages everything in sight in a frantic attempt to add another building.

I've had two versions of Monopoly for the computer and have been disappointed with both. On the other hand, a $20.00 Super Nintendo cartridge of the game generated hours of fun. The graphics were simpler and the options were fewer, but maybe that's why I enjoyed it.

What a great game for just 10 bucks!

This game is awesome! If you're Monopoly fan or not; it is awesome. Considering its price! The graphics are cool and the game rocks. I saw reviews saying that computer always beats them, not true, if you use your brains a little or 'play the monopoly'(which is the main point of the game) you can be a success between all of the other players in no time! Got ten bucks to spend, invest in this CD-ROM itll even teach you a little about money and much much more! Hay! If you know any other good games for 10-15 bucks please e-mail me! Thanks a lot!

Overall, we have enjoyed the game a great deal, but don't think it lives up to all the hype. The personalized board feature only applies to the board and not to the deeds, making it confusing. And the 3D graphics and sound effects slow the game, while the simpler graphics are not easy to see. For the money, it's a good deal and I've enjoyed it a lot but I would advise people not to expect more than a fun game.

One misses the smell of the 'real'money! I remember seeing a bit of the original version and quite liked the artists impression of the properties as you landed on them, missing in this version. There's alot of information on the screen, especially when trading or checking status and think I may need magnifying glasses. However, thoroughly enjoying games with the family that don't involve leaving a boardgame lying around the floor for days...can we simulate money smells please?
