I have put off purchasing this title to the point that it went out of production. The reason I put off purchasing it is because of the reviews. I am glad I ordered it. I was able to find a new copy even though the game is no longer being made. This game has received some terrible reviews from so called "experts." These "experts" are more like picky, spoiled, and snobbish a holes. The game is a low budget product that entered the market at $20.00 not $50.00 like most other new games. This game was well worth $20.00, and I recommend others who are straddling the fence, to pick-up a copy if it can be found. The graphics are not top-of-the-line or cutting edge, but the game is long with many turns; unlike most expensive titles that have several hours of play before they end. Scripted, yes, enjoyable, yes. There are plenty of targets, and a variety of weapon choices. If you are a fan of the zombie genre, do not pass up this game. If you like mindless carnage and enjoy the scare factor, pick-up this game. I would love to see a sequel or expansion to this game, but I suspect that will not happen since this game had limited support and life. Stop debating and get the game.
Really fun to play

This is a pretty good game if you just want to blast the crap out some very gruesome looking zombies. The game play is a bit flawed but nothing that would take all the fun out of it...at least for me. Sometimes when you're shooting at the head of a zombie its arm falls off, or you hit them in the chest and their legs blow off. No big deal, but one thing that did kind of piss me off was sometimes when using a shotgun at close range the zombie barely flinches!!! What kind of crap is that?? A gun like that makes whatever it hits into big chunks of blubber...but whatever. The sounds of the game is its strong point I think, when playing with headphones you can actually hear something coming up from behind you...pretty creepy. If you're a gaming purist, you probably wont like this game due to its flaws. But if you're in it to watch some gore splatter and have a few jumps in your seat than I think you'll enjoy it.
Under rated game

I bought this game with a little hesitation, However I am pleased to say this game is fun as hell,I really had a great time with it and still do.
Although the graphics are'nt great it still is a really fun game to play. And the online gaming is really fun as well, you can't really go wrong if you want a not too complicated shoot em up with plenty of gore and exploding Zombie heads.
Lots of zombie slaying goodness...

I FINALLY found a copy of this game and had to look in another state to get it. This game is great and for the word, most of the bad reviews are for the xbox version. I am an admin for a site that supports this game. www.undeadgames.com We have tons of maps and mods for this game with more coming in everyday. If you get bored of the single player then jump on the multiplayer. The PC version offers alot more bang for you buck as we have the Unreal Editor and have made maps of all George A Romero movies. I recommend that if you managed to run across this game and you're a zombie fan then most certainly pick this up. It makes me sad that the sellers on here are taking advantage of this being a rare game and are jacking the prices up. But needless to say this is a great budget title and zombie fans will adore it.
Nice Graphics but overall disappointing

Zombie AI was just bad. Scripted events if you ducked back fast enough would cause the Zombie to stand still while you shot at them. Also it was so short a game I am glad that I got it for cheap. It took me alittle over 2 hrs to beat the game. I'd say wait till this puppy hits the $10 rack or becomes abandonware.
fundamentally flawed

i want to be nice to this game, because there are soooo many terrible PC games out there, however i just can't. i enjoyed the demo at first, i was digging killing the zombies with the guns.. but then i ran out of ammo. at first i thought "that's good," because FPS games tend to have too much available ammo where you can always use your best weapon, but some good games will force you to use your other weapons which leads to gameplay variety. so i pick up my lead pipe to wail on these zombies melee-style, and what happens? THE PIPE IS TERRIBLE. it takes foooorrreeeevvveeeerrrr for your character to swing the thing! now that's boring, and consider i was playing "john deere: american farmer" before that, literally watching corn grow and was more entertained than this pipe swing. you could go make a pot of coffee, drink 2 cups and then by the time you got back, your guy would still be swinging. :D bottom line is, any game that screws up on such a fundamental level of melee weapons isn't worth playing any longer. if you want a game like this, play painkiller or condemned. the chronicles of riddick has much more interesting melee/fist fighting action too.
Not a game to go hog wild over.

I got the game hoping that it would deliver the same performance that the movie did. Unfortunately, its just like other movies to game conversion. Probably the only difference is is that it has decent graphics (only 64mb video card minimum req), but nothing like the major Quake or Doom titles. Of course, those games take more time & effort being put into them, thus require more hardware in your computer. The company did a great job of creating the game, unfortunately there are some characteristics of the game that fell short. For instance, the character is overall too slow. The zombies can easily catch up with him. Also, last time I checked, the movie never had a character that was a farmer in it. They should have tried to take a character from the movie, then it would have been more interesting. Next, you couldnt melee attack a zombie until the 3rd level of the single player mode. Probably the best thing you could have done was allow the original & 1st weapon, the farmers shotgun, to melee attack the zombies (& I dont mean just w/ the butt of the weapon). Another thing that would have kept the game interesting would have been to get the phones & tv back & working again, w/ the remaining humans left to work those to help other humans get together or something. Most definitely the worst part, was the fact that in the end of the game, you usually have a boss. Well unfortunately, during the whole game, you face the boss. The ending is just about 10 zombies that you have to kill, only difference is you have an arsenal of weapons to choose from. The great thing is you get to choose from secondary melee weapons. My best advice, if you choose to buy & own this game, is to keep the fire axe. Also, to have a lil fun as well as to slow down the zombies, use a 6-shooter to shoot @ the legs (only 1 leg) to have them start crawling. If youre lucky, you can have them wiggling really funny by shooting 1 leg & 1 arm off. Well I said nuff. I will admit that there is 1 (just one) fun area in the game, but ill let u find that. Unfortunately the fun area doesnt last long (typical for this kind of game). The great thing that kept this game above the half way mark in rating is the fact that you have multiplayer capabilities. Just a lil hint: if you plan on playing the game online, dont be a dummy & make sure you have DSL or better connection cause there are still some people that have dial up crud (no offense, used to use it myself). So ya, make sure you have DSL if you plan on playing the game online. Anyways, good luck to those who buy the game & I am def gonna sell my version online.
This game is just so-so

I'm a big, big fan of George A. Romero's movies and the zombie genre, so I was happy to find a game with a true zombie plot line. But, I was disappointed. I guess it was my fault for expecting much from a video game from a movie. I should have known to expect very little, and that's what I got. The graphics are mediocre, the sound is O.K., the action is simple, the AI is almost non-existent, the gameplay is basically walking through a giant maze and shooting stuff. I can compliment the "feel" of the game, as it was creepy and there were a couple of times when I actually jumped. But it took me less than 5 hours to finish the game on High difficulty. Not quite worth the $20 I spent.
Well, it could have been worse

That's right. This game isn't all that great if you are looking for an ultra-stylized, Halo-2 type game with zombies. But it is fun if you look past the flaws and just play. You start out the game with a cutscene about how there is a guy in your front lawn, your a country bumpkin, and the power is out. Isn't that how all stories should start? You go to talk to the stranger, but he tries to bite your hand off, so you go get your NRA approved .22 and .38. From then on, you keep looking for other people who always end up zombified. Which brings up the zombies, the main characters in this game. No one knows why they want to eat people. Maybe they're just misunderstood. Rather than figuring that out, let's beat them to death with a shovel. The AI in this game is pretty bad. But it is fairly amusing to lock a zombie in a room and periodically open the door to shoot them and then close the door again. Or maybe I am just a sadist. They sometimes don't even notice you as you run by. The zombies come in several varieties. There is your standard walker, your crawler, your suicide bomber (no kidding), your puker, your weapon-carrier, and your screamer. The crawlers creep me out, because they scuttle like they are possesed. The zombies don't follow the rules that Romero built, but that game would be 1000 times more difficult, so it's kind of excusable. And it IS enjoyable to shoot the arms, legs, and jaw off a zombie and watch them try to kill you still, even though they could not even if they wanted to. After about a minute, the aforementioned zombie will be dead, as it has bled to death, and you will squeal with glee. Or maybe I am just a sadist. The game tries to care you, which it can do if you have the lights off in the room you are playing in, but it only has about three tricks that it uses to scare you. You do find yourself genuinely hoping there is not another zombie around the next corner, and that makes the game better for me. But anyway, the zombies are well-rendered, in comparison to the games otherwise bad graphics. They dynamic lighting wasn't that great, mainly illustrated by the outdoor levels that I can't quite tell if it is day or night.
A lot of people complain about the sound. The music is too repetitive, they say. But it DOES set the mood well. The sounds of my shotgun ripping a zombie to shreds is quite enjoyable. Or maybe I am just a sadist. The realism of this game isn't great in some areas, sometimes because it is TOO realistic. Reloading weapons can be hazardous to your health if anything is close by, so you find yourself switching weapons a lot rather than reloading. Also, you can only sprint for a few seconds before tiring out and moving slower than you did before you started to sprint. The main draw of this game was the total dismemberment hit detection. Which sucks. Honestly, I shot zombies in the left arm at several points throughout the game, only to watch their right arms blow off. The physics engine in this game is a little TOO exagerrated with the way zombies flop down after dying. This can also be quite fulfilling, to watch a zombie do a backflip after getting shot in the head. Or maybe I am just a sadist. Anyhow, the weapons are somewhat enjoyable to use, but you will find yourself relying mainly on your melee weapons. Which is nice change, especially since the melee weapons are varied in their effectiveness. Hammer
If you run through this game just mindlessly killing zombies, you will enjoy yourself because of the variety of ways in which you can choose to kill said stagnant corpses. It is almost like this is your playground, and you get an axe and something to kill. Also, the radio commmentary that is found on several levels can be kind of amusing to listen to and is a nice, realistic change of pace. Finally, and I just gotta say this, Whoever at Brainbox Games decided to put in this many sewer levels deserves to be shot. Four sewer levels are five too many.
If you are a sadist, like me, you will like this game. Because nothing sounds better than getting home from work and beating a zombie who I pretend to be my boss with a hammer. If you don't think you will like this game, you might be surprised. Or you might still hate it. Just don't blame me.
Way to easy and short

I didn't buy this game with very high expectations. The game only lasts a tad over 3 hours. Yes, you read right...3 hours! That's like paying 6 dollars an hour to play. The graphics are extremely old school (check out the specs on the box and decide for yourself); I felt I was playing The Thing, or an old and very slow version of Serious Sam. Otis, the AI character you run into during the game is extremely stupid...there are times when a zombie is standing nose to nose with him and instead of raising his gun and firing, he waits for you to take it out with your sniper rifle. I figured the game couldn't possibly be worse than the movie (and I LOVE Romero's work), but I was wrong. The music is monotonous, killing the zombies is like shooting fish in a barrel (not much challenge to it), and there are too many glitches to list here. I gave it 2 stars because it was not the worst game I've ever played, but definitely not on my top 10 list either. Wait for it to go to the jewel case bargain bin, folks. Don't say I didn't warn ya.
