Serious Problem Here

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 9 / 9

OK first off let me tell you I loved Hidden & Dangerous, you can check out my review on that game. The reason I gave this a low rating is not because of the game story line so read on.

Now for the bad part.I purchased this "add on" the day it was released and was really looking forward to playing more of a "great" game. I have a fairly decent puter 600Mzh P-III with 128M Ram 16M Video and 3D graphics accelerator so my machine is NOT the problem.

I loaded the game in the "full" hard drive load out then proceeded to open the game up, it showed "version 1.3" on the opening screen and everything was great until it started the missions. This thing is so slow it is all but unplayable, the only way I could get it to speed up was by picking the lowest possible graphics setting in the "setup" screen. You talk about a MAJOR LEAP BACK.

It was really a let down big time for me. I did complete all the missions with only 9, it did not take me too long, the story line is great and the new equipment and vehicles including tanks and field guns are great but something happened in the programing.

I am looking forward to the new release in Nov 2000 and hope things are fixed by then. Hope this helps someone before they buy the game.

Hidden and Dangerous-Devil's Bridge-ALMOST an improvment

The original Hidden and Dangerous, despite its bugs, kept me entertained for many hours. When I read the description on 'Devil's Bridge' I couldn't wait to try out the new weapons and missions. As usual, my favorite part of the game is taking control of jeeps or APCs and running/gunning down Nazis, and Devil's Bridge certainly delivered in that department. It also offers a great many more weapons, in particular, I really wanted to try out the M-1 carbine. I've used real M-1 carbines, and couldn't wait to use one in a game, but there was a minor problem. The game advertised it had historically accurate weapons. The wasn't exactly true...the carbine only held 10 rounds in the game, not 15, but I can't complain too much, it still knocked people down like a champ. Devil's Bridge continues much the same as the original, and is generally more fun (and a lot better sound I think!)...but there is one major points that ticks me off. I *JUST* bought a PIII 800 with all the doodads, and it takes 2 minutes or more to load a game, even a save game after I die...this WASN'T the case with the original! AGH! Other than getting closer to collecting social security as it loads, Devil's Bridge offers many more fun missions, and a LOT more fun (if not TOTALLY historically accurate)..wait until you find a soviet PPsH submachine gun..FUN FUN!

Not The Way It Could Be!

Hidden and Dangerous is one of my all time favorite blends of WW2, Action, and realism. Except for a few bugs, which has been discussed previously H&D rocks. I expected to have the same feelings about Bridge, but I don't. The most glaring difference is the fact that all the weapons, not the sniper scope, is canted on the right side of the SAS men. This makes aiming impossible. It may bode well for the reality of shooting a machine gun from the hip, but it stinks when you are trying to play a video game! This game would be a great addition if it reverted to the old aiming platform. The second thing is that you can't use the same characters from H&D in Bridge. There is no transition or continuity with the first game. By the way get ready to get slaughtered on the beach in the second mission! It's Private Ryan at night! The missions are entertaining, but the no connection thing breaks it up for me! If Talonsoft keeps the original game and adds weapons and missions, and takes out the bugs this game will be eternally in my CDRom drive, until then I will be playing the first game again and again.

As with the other reviewers, I really liked H&D and was looking forward to Devil's Bridge, BUT I can't even play it. The frame rate is horrible. I have a PII300mhz,a Voodo 3, 64MB of memory so I know it is not the computer. It runs H&D just fine. I called TalonSoft and they said the problem is in the game. So, if it runs this bad on my computer - Why put it on the market? When they fix it I will probably never take it out of my CD and it can't be soon enough for me.

H&D ROCKS

I have only played the demo but I still think this game Rocks! I can't wait to order it as for the realism the weapons are very deataled. The Sten is a great weapon along with the Bren both wounderful British clasics same with the American rifles, the M1 Carbine and the BAR, and German,MP40, MP34, and the MP42. Although some M1 Carbine mags do only hold 10 rounds the ones that where used in the war held 15. One thing I realy love about this game is the fact that you can pick up items from a dead soldier so if you run out of ammo on your weapons you can use the guns from dead Germans or dead allies. I just can't wait for H&D 2 and Medal of Honor Allied Assult both comming out latter this year.

Insecticide should come with it

When I got H&D and the expansion pack, Devil's Bridge; WWII shooters were all but non-existant. Today, there are several in production which look promising (See Medal of Honor:Allied Assault, and Return to Castle Wolfenstien). I can't imagine a cooler place to be than Europe as an SAS commando, but the game is difficult to enjoy due to its unpredictability on different machines. It ran great on my PII 16MB video card machine, but ran horribly on my PIV 32MB video card machine. Anyway, the graphics and the story and the missions are great, but there are a ton of undocumented bugs. You may or may not have problems however, it's like walking through a mindfield. You can take your chances. I'd say it's worth the risk!

I can't get enough of the Hidden & Dangerous games. They are without question the BEST 1st person strategy WWII games I've been able to find. I keep buying other games since completing the H&D games and they ALL pale in comparison. I'm impatiently waiting for a H&D2 to come out, as they continue to push the launch date back.
If you enjoy WWII 1st person games, don't hesitate, get the Hidden & Dangerous games. They are alittle buggy on some systems but definately worth the aggravation!

The same excitement as the original game

If you could not get enough of hidden & dangerous this is what you should get. Great new missions, graphics and sounds. The only negative thing I found is that it doesn't bring as many new missions as I expected.
