A Classic RTS

Me not being a fan of RTS at all, i'll have to give this one my full attention. One of the reasons not being an RTS fan, is sitting around collecting resources and building a stupid base (micro managing). In this game, it gives you a set number of troops from your dropship to instantly jump into the action and kill stuff YAY! Pure action from start to finish. Instead of finding resources like C&C or Starcraft, You actually have to destroy the enemies and take over points on the map and defend them to earn AP (aka money) to drop more guys for you to send into battle or upgrade your dropship. Why upgrade the dropship you ask? You can actually have your dropship hang out for a while and defend your LZ with it's cannons! Or upgrade its engines for faster drops instead of waiting around for more guys. You get the idea...

Alot of RTS i notice is like, the more guys you have the better chances of you winning with just sending hoards of guys into the enemies base. Here, it's all about stratagy, positioning your troops so they always have the advantage, and ambushing the enemy. And with this, the longer they survive, the more experience they get climbing the ranks, the stronger and more powerful they become. Having a choice where to position them in buildings is definitly a plus, because sometimes the enemy sneaks up behind you at the opposite end of where you're facing, so you actually have to always watch your troops back.

With a great eventual learning curve, this game is easy to get in to and extremely fun to play. The graphics are amazing and blows C&C: Generals out of the water. Finally you can be right there on the battlefield at ground level! Multiplayer is a whole 'nother story ;-) you get the idea.

Average RTS game

Personally am disappointed in this game as it changed from squad units (Ground Control 1) to individual units. This becomes a big headache when trying to organize units and send them into combat. There is nothing that resembles the 1st game at all.
What made the 1st game enjoyable and unique to me was that you had a set amount of units, they gained experience that continued on throughout the campaign, the player had the ability to choose which units to deploy, and since you didn't have to focus on collecting resource points, the player could focus on playing the game and making strategy.
In this 2nd game, one has to purchase new units for each mission, experience doesn't carry over in the campaign, and individual units are purchased so the player has to take time to group infantry together into a squad and group vehicles together into a platoon.
The most negative aspect of the missions is that you have to acquire resource points to purchase additional units while having a tight time limit. In many missions, you have to defend a location where the player loses the 1st couple of minutes just grouping squad of infantry and vehicles platoons together for control and movement. Since both the player and the computer are gathering resource points, with the computer always having more, the mission becomes tedious as the player has to eliminate wave after wave of reinforcements until capturing their drop zones to prevent reinforcements, then the mission objectives can be completed. Hopefully the player will have enough troops left over to continue on additional parts of the mission.
Those missions when you have to attack the computer or are unable to receive reinforcements are more manageable and easier to complete. The player can simply focus on playing the game and making strategies.
The computer artillery is devastating and is always on target. The player's artillery is slow and inaccurate with wave of attackers able to rush through the bombardment to kill the artillery.
A positive of this game is the mission briefing where the player can look at the map before the mission starts. Being able to zoom in on each individual unit is a gee-whiz factor, but not essential to entertaining strategy game playing.
The camera angles were also a bit difficult to control especially when moving over water then into a cliff, the camera would set at a height equal to the water, but the action is at the cliff height. Being an RTS game, this costs the player valuable seconds in trying get the correct view to attack the computer or to move units around. Usually the computer got the upper hand and shot my units apart by the time the camera angle was at the correct level.
Some of the missions became more of a run from point A to the exit rather than strategy game. An example is where you have to escort the scientists out of the city. The player can take their time in trying to gather reinforcements, but by doing so, the computer will gather overwhelming firepower and quickly chase down the player. Instead the player can simply gather all the troops, send some sacrificial units ahead and the follow with the scientists to the exit, mission over in 5 minutes instead of being killed in 30 minutes. Even the last mission ends up being a run from Point A to the exit with a 5min time limit, not fun at all.
Instead of being a unique RTS game like the 1st one, this 2nd one regressed and unfortunately became more of a standard RTS game. Was hoping for more and am disappointed in this game, but have played far worse games.

Decent RTS

Well, I was a big fan of Ground Control 1, and this one is definitely an improvement graphically, but it doesn't grip me like other RTS games I've played in the past. The one thing I'll say, it's worth the current market price.

An Awesome game

First of all, i've played GC1 and loved the Demo (c'mon it was
90% of the game), and ive yet to determine which one is
actually better [or if half of you even played the first one]
Down to the amazing level of detail, and innovative control
sceme, this is slightly remenicint of games like Homeworld, oh
well. I think that this is a must buy for any RTS fan, it had a
pretty good tutorial [but you should already know how to
play].Lastly what i wanted to say is that this IS an RTS. an
RTS is not simply an game where you build units and bases, it
is the opposite of turn-based where you can react, attack,
and strategize in a free enviroment in Real-Time [I hope I dont have
to explain what Real-Time means.] Anyway, i say go for it, this
game is worth the money and will do well to impress most RTS
fans and new-comers alike. Buy it. NOW

Really nice graphics and cinematic clips

This game has the best cinematic clips I have ever seen on a PC game. It comes close to the CGI movie Final Fantasy The Spirits Within. The game graphics are also superb with fantastic detail.
The gameplay is the same as the first one with the player going up against enemy units and given various scenarios to complete. One big gripe I have though is that though there are three different factions in this game, only 2 are actually playable. The third faction, The Terrans only exist as the computer enemy which is too bad because it has some really cool units including walker strider units. Perhaps Massive will launch a expansion pack that will enable the player to play as the Terrans. Overall I rate the graphics a 10, the gameplay a 7, the sound a 8, and the storyline a 7.

awesome game!

First of all, let me point out that Ground Control 2 is not a traditional RTS game. This game is not about building bases and trying to keep them fortified, it's all about the combat and strategy! Those of you hard core RTS fans may not like this game very much because of it's traits but I love it! Another thing that I like about this game is that you don't have to spend half of your gaming expierence trying to collect resources. You get AP points (the resources) by gaining control over enemy victory locations, that means eliminating all enemys around the area where the victory location is. Once you have enough APs, you call in your dropship to a selected victory location that you have under your control with the infantry or vehicles that you bought. Another thing that I like about this game is tha camera. You can vertualy play this game at any camera angle possible (the camera can get a bit frustrating at times though). I think that anyone who is a RTS fan should try this game out...it's AWESOME!

Too reactive, not enough strategy

I much prefer GC1, which had a lot of scenarios that required strategy. GC2 is too in-your-face.

Great Game

This is 1 of the best games ive played in awhile. 1 of the best parts about the game is you dont have to worry about building a base and collecting resources all you have to worry about is the best way to fight the battle.
Another good feature is the AI the enemy will attack you where you have the least troops and when they lose a position they wont just let you keep it they will counter-attack. You allies are also rather capable it many games ure allies just sit around build a base n defend in this game they go on the offensive and can easliy defend themselves.
This is a good game for anyone who likes rts.

it is a good game

i think that ground control was a great game i liked it, because it was realistic. corparations waring, end or the world , etc. this ought to be a good game. I expect the story line will be good as ground control was a cliff hamger but i for one am expecting alot. I hope that this doesn't turn into a starship troopers two type of sequal because that was a really bad movie. The controls on ground control were the best i had seen in a while, it is 3D unlike a lot of games that use strategy that i have seen and i hope that you try this game, and anyway if it sucks you can allways sell it online, people will by anything there
