One of the best F/A-18 Hornet sims

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 19 / 20

The other negative reviewers for this game would find their problems solved if they just downloaded the v1.01 patch from graphsim.com. I've run this sim on several different systems, and the patch solves all the conflicts I've run into.

Pro: Currently, this is the only combat flight sim with photo-realistic scenery based on real-world satelite imagery. This adds a whole new dimension to combat flight-simming, and is the reason for the long installation times. In my opinion, it is well worth the wait.

Pro: GraphSim's F/A-18 series continues to be the most realistic Hornet sim available. The flight modelling is impeccable, the weapons systems very realistic. You can easily adjust the difficulty level from simple arcade-style (where you only use a few keystrokes to operate all the systems) to fully realistic (which uses the entire keyboard to operate almost everything on the actual aircraft).

Pro/Con: Opinions vary on the new 3D cockpit. Some folks still prefer the older style 2D cockpit, but GraphSim has done an admirable job in integrating photo-realistic detail from their 2D cockpit into their new 3D cockpit. In-cockpit motion simulation is a new and fascinating touch as the pilot gets jostled around when jinking the aircraft.

Cons: The users manual (on the CD) appears to be abridged from previous GraphSim manuals. But it is still quite extensive compared to other sim manuals. Air Traffic Control (ATC) is still very minimal and is starting to show it's age. But it gets the job done. And there is something to be said for its simplicity.

Conclusion: All-in-all a great Hornet sim. The full-time 3D cockpit is not for everyone, but the photo-realistic scenery makes this sim stand out on its own accord.

Stunning Photo Realistic Scenery - Great Air-to-Air Combat!

This latest version of F/A-18 Hornet from Graphsim Entertainment makes you feel like you really are flying over Iraq. The scenery is stunning, especially from over 5,000 feet. There is an almost photo-realistic look to the desert as you look down at the rivers and wadi's of Iraq.

The air-to-air action is terrific, with some very exciting dogfights against Iraqi Migs. Had some SAM's fired at me and I followed realistic tactics to defeat them...and they worked! I was all tensed up as I watched the missiles bear down on me. Luckily, they exploded in a black smudge behind my jet. Whew!

The new Interface makes it very easy to be up and flying in just a few short moments. Very intuitive and will be liked by both new users and old pro's. Plus, it runs well on a low-end machine (I've got a 1.3ghtz, which shows no frame rate hits at the highest detail settings).

I've flown multi-million dollar military simulators and this program actually looks nearly identical. For this price, it's a bargain.

PLEASE! SIMPLIFY THE WEAPON USE!

I have so many great games, and this is one of the top-grade units..BUT....okay on all the hundreds of pages to become a "licensed Captain, USAF", but can't you on one simple page just print out the joystick/keyboard coding to fire all the various weapon??? Do I have to read 700+ pages to learn how to fire the blankity-blankity-blank cannon????? One spot says left click mouse, yet I hit "ENTER" to REALLY get it to fire. Am I missing something? Otherwise, a GREAT feel to fly and great graphics and realism!!! Good job!

Setting the review straight on this game

I'm not sure what the other reviewers are thinking but:

Pros: VERY realistic; This is a hard core sim game, plan on spending serious time learning the intricacies of the F-18's flight & weapons systems. This can be a deterrent if you have no patience or intellect. The handling & weapon systems are awesome! This game forces you to learn them and use them correctly or you will fail.

My favorite part of this game is the mission editor, you can create killer custom missions!

Cons: Lack of documentation, there is no online tutorial, or book that came with my CD. Learning everything through military friends as well as trial & error takes time. This game assumes you are familiar with a lot of what an F-18 pilot knows (weapon systems; radar sub-systems; etc)

Net: In the end it is a great sim flight game that demands study & time but delivers a f-18 experience.

If you are a fan of F18 Korea or K18 PSF this game is a disappointment. It contains a few bugs that completely spoil the game. The HARM missiles are useless on the medium and hard levels, they (the HARMs) fly of course and never hit the SAM sites. In the middle of the game sometimes my joystick just quits working. Also the city of Baghdad contains no building, or Baghdad International airport. I sent an e-mail to Xicat interactive and they never responded. I even downloaded the latest patch for this game and it did not correct these issues. Xicat sent this product to the market without good QA. Don't buy this game unless a new patch comes out to correct the problems.

From the great presentation, to the superb graphics, I advise NO ONE to miss out on this game. I saw it in the store at first, and blew it off as just another flight sim. But then, after playing it at a friend's house, I was blown away. The realism is intense and the models are amazing. Great attention to detail and physics were obviously taken into account in the creation of this game. I had previously played FA/18 Korea, but I didn't suspect that another title from this company was to be released. Upon my purchase, I have discovered this to be an even greater challenge and an even more inspiring flight simulation atmosphere. I highly reccomend this game, even to those who aren't big into flight sims. It will be well worth your time and purchase.

Not a Sim...Closer to a Arcade Shooter

It has the graphics and the flying feels right, but this is still in the Arcade class. Why show all the buttons on the HUD displays when they never intend for you to press them? Very little thinking is required, just throttle and shoot when the bells go off.

This game did not work on my computer. I could not get it to load properly or work properly. I have a newer computer that more than meets the minimum requirements for this game. This was a complete waste of my money.

This game has the strangest control set up i've ever used. Some of it is just plain confusing. Please don't let this be your first flight sim game. Once you get the hang of it though it gets easier, that was after an hour of gameplay though.
