I just bought this game and I've been playing it a lot in the past few days. It's very addictive once you get started. The graphics are probably the best I've seen for the Deer Hunter series, and the same thing goes with the audio. You can hear birds chirping, turkeys gobbling, the wind blowing, and the gunshots sound very realistic. It makes you feel like you're actually sitting in the woods on a cool Fall day. This game is very fun, exciting, and relaxing to play. But as good as this game is there are a few minor things about it that I don't like. The first thing is that once you call a couple times, the deer walk right up to you. I don't think I've taken a broad side shot at a deer yet. All of my shots have been face to face right through the front of the deer's chest. And instead of passing right under your stand the deer see you and run away. Another thing.. Almost every time I play I see a group of 3 fawns or does, or a buck chasing a doe. I wish they would have mixed things up a little and made it more random. The final thing I don't like about this game is that there aren't enough guns. The 7mm mag has the longest range in the game, and it's sighted in at 200 meters. That's good, but the only problem is that this caliber is only offered in a single shot action. That's pretty cool, but I think that caliber should have been offered with the bolt action too. They also should have added the 7mm short action mag, the 243, the 280, and the world famous 30-30. Yes, that's right. There is no 30-30 in this game! I think everone that hunts has killed a deer or atleast hunted with a 30-30 at some point in his or her life. Although there a few things about this game that keep it from being the perfect hunting game, it's still probably the best deer hunting game on the market. Very fun, and well worth the 20 dollars. If you're a serious hunter, or just someone that enjoys this type of game you won't be dissapointed by it.

After hunting white tail deer for well over half a century, some health problems have limited that activity. About then my daughter thought I should have one of these new-fangled computers - and you guessed it - I stocked up on a couple fistfulls of hunting games (and flight simulators). The graphics in some of these programs are unbelievable. I don't pretend to be an expert on the hunting games but I have become thoroughly addicted to Atari / South Logic Deer Hunter 2004. Yeah, I wish there were a few more guns, and yeah, my hunter looks like the tin man, but the scenery and wildlife graphics are extremely realistic. More important however, is the story of how I got into this game. A couple of barely teen agers complained that they walked forever and only saw a couple of deer fleeing. I borrowed the CD and figured I'd find the settings that they had somewhere overlooked. Well after two days and many hours later I thought "this game really is too hard". In fact it's boring. For some reason I persisted and lo and behold there are deer (and other critters) all over the place. The game opened up for me when, true to the real world, I discovered that certain locales held more deer than others. I suppose the eventual accrueing of points helped also, but how much I don't really know. Now the kicker in this game is the"movie" feature. When I discovered that the camera could be trained on any animal reasonably near the hunter (gun shot range?) I thought, why not noisily walk accross the whole of one of the hunting areas with the camera on and replay the movie with the camera on the animals. I was flabbergasted. The thing becomes a wildlife documentary that is fascinating. In fact, I spend as much time now walking and watching the animals that I never knew were there as I do hunting them. If you doubt that there are animals out there, try this "hunt" with F5 on during the game and "animal" pressed on the re-run. I think you'll revise your opinion of the game and maybe try a little harder and slower. Hats off to South Logic Studios for a very unique hunting game. my only suggestion is that a few more interesting none-game species could have been added: fox, beaver, bobcat etc.

After getting Trophy Hunter 2003, I snatched up Deer Hunter 2004 when I saw it. Well, it's a bore. I love the horse riding, being a rider for real, but I'm also a deer hunter and a previous review is correct; the deer behave oddly. They either run over you or are not responsive to calls. I've lain on that huge rock between the fields and had 3 spike bucks circle continually right on top of me. In 3rd person camera, it's a hoot watching your character get tromped on. The Texas-type map is really dull, and the midwestern farm stuff leaves you pretty much just sitting there. Save your time, get the Trophy Hunter 2003 or later. That's by the same company, same $'s go to them, and it's a genuinely great game. Waiting to see if this company picks up the pace on their Deer Hunter game, next issue, since a good deer-only game is needed but it needs the quality of the Trophy Hunter series.

Very Disappointed!!!

I had really hoped this would have been better... a patch is needed very badly to correct many of the tech problems. Although there are some very nice features that have been added I found the game to be boring and very uneventful. I don't want it easy but I sure don't want to walk the map for 3 hours before I see something other than a fish floating across the land!!! LOL I think their loyal customers would have been better served had they put the new technologies into Trophy Hunter 2004 instead.

lordluvaduck, obviously you lack any knowledge of hunting. 3 hours walking and all you saw was a floating fish? LMAO!! You are extremely useless at this game aint ya? I hunt IRL and have played every hunting game out there, this is one of the best bar none. top notch graphics, good deer ai, immersive gameplay, etc etc. You are entitled to your own opinion, but why rag on a game in which it's obvious you can't relate too? It's like me whining about having problems getting down the cross stitch in "virtual crochet". DH2004 is a great hunting game. Best DH in the series, and way better than anything Cabelas has put out, and easily beats hunting unlimited 1 and 2. Ducky, in the future, don't review a game that doesn't cater to your likings IRL, sorta pointless don't ya think?
