guys dont be fooled by this extension pack..its totally unstable go to any search engine and look for more informations...ull notice more pple complaining about this guy than voting for it...i enjoyed the game c&c generals and when i saw Zero hour thought its some extension pack like any other game..it turned out a poor game which doesnt work...EA games are trying to blame our systems for the bugs..i bought whole new pc paid around 2000 dollars "nearly bought a very hight performance pc" but this this game is causing problems....some time ot starts and mostly it crashed to the desktop with a serriour error msg....there are roumers about EA games trying to direct the market more into simulations and RPG games than strategies " guess just roumers" i think u can wait couple more month before u buy until a stable patch shows up....

The game is great when it works.

I have a P4 2.6GHZ W/HT and 1GB of Dual Channel high end Corsair RAM and a Radeon 9600 Pro, and the SATA Raptor 74 GIG HDD.
Even with this system, the game cripples my computer and it is one of the extremely few times that I experience the "blue screen of death" that I haven't had to deal with since Windows 98. There are even times when Ctr.Alt.Del doesn't work and all I'm left with is the reset button on my computer.
If you think that EA games is going to give you support your wrong.
On the few occasions that it works, it is an outstanding game. I am aware of systems that don't have trouble with this game that are not as high end as my machine, but beware of the hardware combos, there is no telling which ones will work and which ones won't.

Not as good as it could have been

Bloatware. The "artists" spent their time and energy making some pretty graphics that will challenge your video card, and frustrate your internet connection if you have anything less than state of the art. As far as game play, step backward regarding on-line playing. Serious lag even with a high speed connection. No way to communicate effectively with other players and hard to turn off the audio to enhance performance. Starcraft Brood War(a 4 year old game) is superior. The AI is less than top notch. And forget about the QA people actually getting the bugs out. Maps have all sorts of bugs, and for an upgrade, try to import older C&C maps?
Where are specification on unit performance? It trial and error to figure out ranges and weapon effectiveness.
EA games seems to want to "challenge everything" except producing a top notch game. I was disapointed by this expensive add on product.
My recommendation, hold off and get Zero Hour on the cheap.

Awesome game... if you're an idiot.

This goes to show you, if you buy an older game, you are most likely going to be astonished by how bad they can be. Not that Generals is a total loss, but if you want anything close to a thinking strategy game, look someplace else. The campaign mode is tedious and the solo player skirmishes are basically nothing more than a `see who can build their stuff first' race. I guess this is realistic though, since most of the military conflicts in history consisted of both sides trying to build a full military base while the enemy is sending in tanks. What makes it worse is the suicidal mentality of your army's AI. Many a time will you lose your builder trucks simply because they either just sit there when being attacked or decide to rush into the middle of a battle to fix a structure even though the structure automatically fixes itself. The only warning you get is an almost subliminal alarm that goes of a thousand times per minute and quickly becomes no more than part of the overall din of battle. I can't imagine these flaws couldn't have been fixed relatively easily by simply making a timer before any attacks and being able to set a checkpoint for non-combat units that are under fire. However, if you are dedicated enough to work through the first half of a skirmish, you will be rewarded by fighting an enemy that completely gives up in the second half, save for small waves of assaults that mysteriously become only a fraction of the original efforts. I can't see much improvement over the original Red Alert games that preceded Generals. The graphics aren't much better, the AI is equally as autistic and strategy is pretty much the same. On a positive note, the game does add some good units, like the combat Chinook and sniper. But overall, if you were frustrated by the Bozo the Clown mentality of the early Command and Conquer games, you will be equally dismayed by the exact same stuff here.

What Generals should've been to start with.

This expansion, quite simply, makes Generals the game it should've been to start with, and comparable in amusement with the classic version of Warcraft III.
Some of the boredom from classic Generals has been removed by adding in the variable of specialty generals, so you can play in a style that's more fitting to your tactics, and small improvements have been made to make the interface seem less clunky, such as moving the superweapon launch button up with the rest of the general powers buttons. Unfortunately, some annoying things didn't get fixed, such as not being able to skip past the long "cinematics".
A new mode of play called Challenge has been added as well, where the computer takes on one of the unique personalities of one of the new generals, and you'll get to listen to their cute/stupid taunts while you demolish their base.
As for the new added graphics, they aren't that impressive, as there's nothing really eye-popping, and the "Mother of all Bombs" sadly looks like the Chinese Nuke's girly little cousin instead.
Anyhow, a good try by EA Games, but I'm still waiting for another expansion that makes it equal to Frozen Throne in terms of playability. I'd suggest buying Zero Hour if you've already got Generals (a good fix for a sub-par game), but I'd wait until the price drops...

A "Generally" Great Supplement

I Just got done playing this with 3 other people at a LAN party, and I can safely say that this expansion is worth the money if you enjoy the C&C multiplayer experience. The new campaigns are ok, but Zero Hour definetely seems to have a much stronger focus on the multiplay aspect, which really is well done. It also has a nifty solo-player matchup mode called "challenge," where you're pitted against a specific general who's army has certain unique abilities.

The ability to pick different generals is awesome; each general gets certain privledges along with special units. There are 3 generals for each army that you can choose, and each requires a completely different strategy for success. While each general has access to certain unique weapons, they also in most cases have restrictions on some vehicles, including the arsenal they can choose from and how much each vehicle costs. The general-specific weapons are very cool as well; they include a souped up Aurora bomber that drops fuel bombs (my Fave), EMP patriot missles, the Emperor Overlord tank (has a scary amount of firepower), a "nuclear" mig upgrade, the classic C&C lazer turret, a carpet bombing general ability, and a nasty little chinese mini gunner (very effective in large numbers). There also are several units that have been added to each army regardless of which general you choose. I've found that using different generals can drastically change gameplay and adds quite a bit of replayability to the game.

I highly recommend picking this up if you're a C&C nut (like I am). It's not too pricy and has pretty good replayability. If you play C&C multiplayer online or through LAN's, then this X-pack is definetely right up your alley.

Wonderful indeed but...

Anyone who bought and enjoyed the original CandC: Generals won't go far wrong doing the same again with this expansion. Your money buys you another 15 single player missions all complete with new units, a `challenge' scenario where you can choose a general that suits your style of play and put him up against 8 others as well as the usual skirmish and multiplay modes.

The graphics and sound are excellent, as could be expected from a developer of this pedigree, with the cut scenes giving a truly professional feel to the whole experience. Explosions and animation are superb, I particularly like the way bodies fly through the air as a bunker is blown up, and the screams of anguish as troopers die a painful chemical death never fails to bring a smile (I know, I'm a sick git).

Gameplay is fluid, albeit a little slow in places, while it should also be noted that he who rules the skies, wins (99 times out of 100 anyway). The GLA missions are slightly harder to my mind as there is no air power at all, but more enjoyable due to the downright nastiness of the terrorists. Winning a skirmish against the USA with all the superior weaponry is particularly satisfying and being able to camouflage your units and buildings making them very hard to spot gives an edge that is hard to beat - lets face it, its damn hard to destroy something if you can't see it. Chinese forces are once again numerous and it seems to me that my favourite Overlord is now a tad more vulnerable to rocket toting troops, but the vision of ½ a dozen or so of these beasts lumbering through an enemy base camp, supported by a couple of the most excellent Dragons to clear those troublesome buildings is one I can't get enough of. As always, the USA tend to dominate, and the initial scenario is great for refreshing the memory banks and getting back to grips with all the controls.

The interface is, as usual, totally user friendly and it doesn't take much to get everything quickly set up to your liking. My son was not much impressed by the screen that appears after the loading scenes - unless a key is pressed or the mouse moved, it looks like the program has locked up and he sat there for ages before he realised this (heheheh - kids of today!!)

My only real gripe with this is that, once again, the game doesn't deliver what appears to be promised on the box. I was hoping and praying for the return of the naval units but no such luck - you get a carrier (USA) but can't actually do anything with it apart from launch air missions - most disappointing. Overall though, this certainly ranks as one of the better expansions and does improve the original - if only slightly.

Great Game!

Command and Conquer Generals, Zero Hour

This game is the game of the century. In Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour expansion pack you can be three teams, USA, China and the Global Liberation Army (GLA). Play to build your base and your armies from soldiers, vehicles, tanks, and aircraft. If you have enough money than you are able to buy superweapons like the Particle cannon, Nuclear silo and the SCUD storm. You can also be nine generals who have advantages and disadvantages. You can play missions with a goal or just fight the other team. You can also play other players online in the multiplayer games.

What I don't like about the game is that some times it gets very difficult even if it's on easy. What I like about the game is that the challenges are fun to do and the generals with special abilities are cool. I think that the music is very nice for each team. The game has vehicles from real life like the Padalen tank, Raptor air plane and the SCUD launcher. I would suggest this game to many people and I would give this game a 9/10.

One of the better expansion games to ever come out, but...

I wish that this game had some type of controlled water platformed units. Wouldn't it be cool if you could launch an invasion with amphibious units or blast land units with battleship guns like the intro in this game does? You only get a taste of this with the calling in of air power from the ocean on one of the missions. I think that if there is another release of this game, that this aspect of combat should be included. That is the only reason, to me, that this game gets 4 out of 5 stars.

A great game
