Sid Meier's Civilization II is superior to other Civ games:

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 7

Sid Meier's Civilization II is superior to Civ: Call to Power and Civ: Test of Time.

I just wanted to point out to those who may not realize it, but Civilization II is not the same game as either Civ: Call to Power or Civ: Test of Time. Civilization II is the sequel to Civilization. Both games are by Sid Meier and both are classics (5 star games).

I noticed that several reviews of Call to Power and Test of Time are posted here and their lower scores are unfairly affecting Sid Meier's Civilization II scores. Both of these games were efforts to update the Civ II game but failed somewhat as their scores indicate here. If you go to sites...you will find comprehensive reviews for all of these games which point out the ways in which Call to Power and Test of Time differ from Civ II.

Civ II is an extremely fun turn-based strategy game with only one thing missing: internet game play. The game was developed just before internet gaming really took off. However, that will soon be rectified with Meier's newest game: Civilization III which should be a instant classic if his past record holds true. I am sure it will since his primary requirement in creating any game is this: It must be FUN to play.

Sid Meier's newest Civ game, Civilization III is supposed to be out by the end of 2001 and is definitely worth waiting for. But if you want to play an excellent strategy game now, get Civilization II which can be had for [a good price]here at Amazon.com.

Dont let the graphics cange you mind!

This is a wonderful game! Those who enjoyed Sim City 2000,will love this game. The graphics aren't that good, but the gameplay is awesome!I dint think Civ2 would be that great, beacause the graphics didnt look so good, and it was only [price],but this is one of the best stratagey games I've ever played. It is also very addictive, once you start playing, its hard to stop! The only bad thing about about Civ2 is it doesn't come with directions, but it's farely easy to learn and understand.A great game and fun for most people.

I need another fix...

I've been a huge fan of the original Civilization since...well, for a long time. In fact, I still dust off the original from time to time for nostalgia's sake.

As for Civ II, there are only so many ways to say it's an AMAZING strategy game. There are so many ways to approach the game that it truly can be replayed as often as you like, and the fact that every single choice you make has an impact on the game later on forces you to give a lot of thought throughout the game. Deciding how to balance your research, military might and diplomacy requires constant attention.

This is one of those games that can't be anything but turn-based. The level of detail and sheer number of items you need to manage are what give Civilization II its depth, and the turn-based structure allows you to dedicate the time you need to each of your cities and units. It doesn't leave a lot of time for sleep, mind you, but that's another issue entirely...

The best computer game ever!

By far, the most addictive game I have ever played. The ability to play a game for several years and never get bored with it is one of the highest compliments I could give to any computer game. For true fans of strategy games, this one is the absolute best that all others must be compared to.

This game has it all - managing military strength and the manner in which to use it; handling diplomatic manners so that you can live (hopefully peacefully) in a world with other civilizations; controlling expansion so that you keep up your power without spreading too thin; juggling your 'budget' to manage technology development, happiness, and your treasury; and still keep your citizens safe. Whew!

Although not perfect, the models for all of these things are varied and intelligent enough to keep you interested and challenged for a very long time. This turn-based game allows every player to proceed at their own pace - which comes in handy during those sleepy, all-night fests and you're managing over 40 cities while simultaneously battling two or three rival civilations!

Highly recommended! (Is there a six-star rating???)

One word of caution - the addictive nature of this game also deserves six stars. If you want an active social life and be able to hold a good, steady job, think twice before playing this game. It's a classic 'one-more-turn' game that is hard to put down.

A great classic!

This version of Civilization had the good sense to merely update the graphics, advances, etc. of the original... (for instance: adding entertaining movie clips with beautiful music to announce civilization advances)... and add a few more choices and rewards to the already familiar. Other than that, anyone who played the original Civilization will find this version easy to get into and begin enjoying right away. The troop interactions with the city screens are somewhat different and a bit harder to command at first, but when you relax into it, you realize it's your old favorite in spiffy new clothes.

Get the best strategy game ever at the best price...

Warning: If you buy this game you will lose sleep, you will annoy your girlfriend, you will blow off important work, you will find yourself drooling and staring at your computer screen at 5 a.m. in a stupor. It's that good.

At this price, how could you possibly lose?

(BTW, why pay $... on CIV III when you can play this now and in two years buy CIV III for ten smackers? That way, you'll have something to look forward too..)

Another great advantage of this game is you don't need a lot of computing power to play it, so it's perfect for keeping older computers useful.

Enjoy!

What is there not to love?

Civ II is an excellent game with endless possibilities. You can build cities, research technology, establish trade roots, build wonders of the world, fight wars-well, I could go on and on. And when it's at such a low price, these no reason why you shouldn't buy it right now!

You start in 4000BC (unless you chose to start in 3600BC or 3200BC) with 1 or 2 settlers unit, who builds your first city. In this city, you can build units, such as settlers, to found another city, or irrigate, mine, or build roads, which increases food, production, and trade. You can also build buildings, like barracks, which increases units' ability to fight and defend. In your cities, you collect taxes, research science, and give out luxuries.

As your Civ grows, you gain knowledge, which allows you better units, more buildings, different governments, and faster methods of life. You will also have to interact with other Civs, whether it's peacefully or in war. You can exchange knowledge, give gifts, ally, or demand tributes. You also can build wonders of the world, such as the Pyramids, the Statue of Liberty, Apollo program, and a Cure for Cancer. And there is some much more, you just have to play it for yourself to know.

Over all, Civ II is an extremely fun game. I have had it for more than 2 years, and never gotten board of it. I am still finding myself calling in sick to play it. Whenever someone asks me why I make such a big deal about it, I ask them to come over and see for themselves, and the next day I talk when to them, they say "You were right. I went and bought it myself." Trust me and all the other reviewers on this page. Buy Civilization II;
you'll be glad you did.

The best game evet

Do not buy this game, once you bought it you will totally loose track of time, you will loose your job, your family, your pet. But who cares, you can now use all your time playing CIV2 the best game ever. This game has stolen my high school years, most of my professionel life and my dreams. I often dream of how to smash those damn Romans or the evil Vikings, this is just to show how time consuming this game is. The moment you start playing you are hooked, and the game will always be a part of you and the way you act.

I have tried newer games, with more fancy graphics but it's just not the same. CIV2 will just always be game number one. The game I will always play, to the day when the evil doctors decide to remove my brain from my computers hardwareinterface.

Don't stop yourself for doing something really stupid just buy the game.

Regards

The fun of this game is in this simplicity. It's so simple, yet people have trouble understanding it. I bought this game 2 years ago, and got hooked. My fave part is the cheat menu where you can change the king and queen's names. It's a giggle making them into people I know. The part I don't like is how you have to wait while your rivals move and they have a million units, and it's confusing if you have 8 players. I also like the high councils and the meetings with your rivals. All in all, this game is good. I like it a lot.

Perfect Game

My father has civilization 2 (I am 7 years old). There is also the Map Editor, a program that allows you to create and play on your own map. As your civilization gets more advanced you can build more guys. You win by either capturing the world or building a spaceship.
