(To the tune of Gilligan's Island)
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, A tale of a fateful install,
That started from this online store on the world wide web.
I was a mighty PC guru, The wife was anxious and unsure.
One PC guru set out for a six hour install. A six hour install . . .
Needless to say this was one wicked install. I build my own PC's from scratch and people have a motto that they tell me to stick to, "If it 'ain't' broke, don't fix it." Unfortunately, I try not to listen to every one else. The problem is NOT with the game itself but with the OpenGL (OGL) drivers that are installed when GLSetup is installed. In theory, GLSetup should NOT be run if you have the latest drivers from the company. However, I did not have the updated drivers so naturally I ran GLSetup. That's when all Hell basically broke loose.
Why am I talking about OpenGL? Because Bugdom is an OpenGL only game. Therefor it will only run correctly with the latest drivers and at least DirectX 7.0. (Don't ask, I don't know why.) Granted the graphics aren't exactly as smooth as that of the "gasp!" Mac version but it is very very cute. The story is pretty basic, You play as a potato bug looking thing who calls himself Rollie McFly to try and save the Princess Lady Bug from the Evil King Thorax. Really kind of typical and over played in numerous other games, oh well. The graphics are very well done eliciting a very loud "How cute!" from my girlfriend and a "I wanna play! I wanna play!" from some shrimp I've never seen before in the house at the time. I did notice that the "options" menu contains NONE of the traditional options like sound/music volume, screen resolution, detail level and what not. The Window-like buttons are also VERY subtle, It's very difficult to see if the buttons in the sub menus are pressed in or not. I guess it qualifies as a "Blooper" in Jeff Johnson's eyes. Another unsual thing I did notice, the PC that had all of the problems had a ATI Rage Fury, which uses the ATI 128 chipset. Last I checked, this is part of the same family of 128 Pro's that the iMac and other apple thingies use. Also uses the same set of drivers as the 1280 Pro, How odd.
As far as installation goes, I certainly hope that Take2 does a double take on the installation software. There are several notes to take during the installation.
First. Check the BOIS/CMOS if you have a motherboard with an AGP style video card. It is crucial that you set the aperture size correctly. In my case it was 64 before it became stable.
And Second. Get all of the latest drivers for your hardware, not least of all the video card.
Sad to say this game will not run otherwise. But why the four stars? You may ask. Well, like I said I'm a PC Guru, I don't consider twisting a PC to my whim and will a problem but a challenge instead. If you can get past the BS that this game gives you during installation, You or your children will certainly enjoy the game. It certainly is a nice game to get away from the blood and gore that games like American McGee's Alice or Quake III offers. Besides, I'm not allowed to play the bloody games when the shrimp is in the house.

The first time I played Bugdom was on my school's computer in the library. I was immediately taken with the game's plot line and graphics and music. Since then, I've become obessessed with it! It's one of my favorite games, and often times, I stay after school just to play it, since at lunch there isn't much time. This is one of my favorite games, ever. I would recommend it to anyone! The graphics are breathtaking with a look to them that is so real, the first time I saw the tarantulas, I was freaked out a little, as I am when I see a real one. The levels are quite hard, especially when you don't know the cheat codes--I couldn't beat it without them! I give this game five stars for everything it contains!
So fun and challenging!

When I first played this game I said to myself, "How much harder can this get?" But after a while, I figured out it wasn't hard, you just needed to play the game and get used to it. Bit challenging, yesery, but it's worth your time. Here is a description of each level:
Level 1: Plain, Simple, Easy Bugs. How to beat it: Get into a shell opening, (big)
Level 2: Simple, like level 1, takes a bit long. How to beat it: Get into a shell opening, (big)
Level 3: Water level, If you get eaten by a fish, you're dead! Watch out for those mosquitoes! How to beat it: Get into a shell opening
Level 4: Yikes, the feet! When you fly on the dragonfly don't get to high or else the bat will get you! And you know what will happen, (you die).
Level 5: This is S-I-M-P-L-E! Jump onto the dragonfly, (and again, don't go too high or else the bat will get you!) Look at the bottom of your screen, see the meter in red? How to beat the level: Using the Dragonfly, click with your mouse to shoot out stuff aiming at the bee-hive on a tree! When your whole meter is gone and the hive explodes, you've beaten it!
Level 6: Larva seem harmless, but if they get you, they're not! How to beat the level: Get into a shell opening at the end of the level! Oh yeah, on your way there, when you see a lot of shells, two tother in a row and a long line of shells and a few Larva before it, don't get those shells! Those are the red and brown bugs!
Level 7: How to beat the game: Roll into the queen so your meter at the bottom of your screen reduces some of the red!
Level 8: Don't get caught under the fireflies' spotligh or else they bring you back close to the beginning of the level! It's VERY frusterating! You'll die if you fall into the acid. There's dynamite. Key: Get into a shell opening.
Level 9: Watch out when jumping on slim ropes! If you get into the lava, you're dead! ANTS TURN INTO GHOSTS ONCE DEFEATED! How to beat the level: Get into a shell opening
Level 10: All I've gotta say: Defeat the King Ant!
Next step: You've beaten the game!
THE GREATEST 3-D GAME EVER!

I started playing bugdom on a demo I found on an imac at school.
I loved the game. It's graphics are incredible! The one problem is
that you can't go to the previous level. But,I know a cheat code
that allows you to go to any level-even ones you havn't been to
yet. This is the code: when on the main menu hold down the ~ key
and double click START, then a list of all the levels will appear
on the screen cick on the level you want to play and your ready
to go!
Good game, but not on Windows

This game is great! I love the graphics! Unfortunately, it does not deserve to be on Windows. It was originaly made for Mac, and it did and still does rock, but only on that platform. On Windows in isn't nearly as exciting, partly because the game doesn't run as well. I don't think it should have been made for Windows, however, it does show that Mac games are sometimes better than Windows ones.

... Whenever my class gets free time to do whatever they want, we go play Bugdom in our computer lab. I gave this game 5 stars because the levels are long and there are 8 levels counting the two bosses. I like finding all the keys to the doors and all the obstacles you have to go through to beat the levels. It's so fun to curl up and go around really fast hitting ants. The highest level I have ever gotten to is 4. People should play this game because it is really fun and it will keep you busy having fun and you won't get bored playing it.

I have played Bugdom at school & I love it! I was able to complete levels 1- 7 and 10, but I never could complete levels 8 and 9. The 3-dimensional picture and smooth, quick, and realistic movements make it appear as if you're really there. The critters are all so cute, even King Thorax. This game is like totally cool. They should make a movie of it! Now I'm telling you- you're gonna just LOVE this game. Bugdom ROCKS!

I'm 11 years old and at my school every chance my class gets in computer class we play bugdom. The highest anybody has ever gotten in the levels in my class is level 3 (not very far) but we only have 40 minutes and we can't save our games. I love this game because its so fun to try to find the keys for all the different doors and trying to get to other levels and asking other people how far they are in it and how to get things. My favorite thing that you can do in bugdom is when the bug can curl up and and move around really fast hitting all the ants just by striking the space bar. I think you should consider playing bugdom because its so axilurating (I probably spelt that wrong) and when your bored you'll have something to do and then you won't be bored any more. Please I'm beggin yah! try it!
Addendum to my scathing earlier review!

OK. I got Bugdom working after a little guidance from Tech Service.
The problem was installing the OpenGL drivers. Once I had those set up properly AND new video drivers for my video card, I was off and running.
It is a beautiful game that my seven year old navigates with ease.
If it wasn't for the installation problems, I would recommend this game to everyone.

I purchased the PC version of Bugdom after thoroughly enjoying the Mac version. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. The graphics are distorted and sometimes backwards. Worse yet the game crashes when you complete Level One :(
Even more disappointing than the game itself is the lack of customer service or technical support for the product. I emailed the address in the CD over ten times and received no response.
Caveat emptor.
