Every once and a while there's a game that sorta comes in outta of the blue and under the radar, the Act of War games are an example of such games. I played the downloadable version from direct2drive since I don't feel like paying both for the original and the expansion. The graphics are wonderful, even at medium settings. The closest game that compares would be C&C: Generals although the planes tend to go through the geography instead of above it but it still ooks good. The base building is just as labor intensive as the earlier C&C games. Resource gathering is interesting, basically it's the traditional resource gathering combined with "capturing" downed enemy soldiers. The story is typical of every military fiction out there, considering it was written by the same guy who did the original. It's the typical "bad guy steals weapon of mass destruction and plots against American people" plot, the type where Harrison Ford will likely play the lead. Naval Combat is FUN!! Amphibious landings, naval bombardments and torpedoes all add a new level of gameplay that is lacking in C&C: Generals. You spend more time trying to kill the other guy in this game than you do managing your base, well sort of anyway. You spend more time micr0managing battles than you do your base, so your focus better be solely on the game and not have another thing like the television competing for atttention. This game is not necessarily for turtlers. It's hard to fortify your base and tech progression goes quickly as does resource gathering. So if you like fast paced games or a big fan of C&C: Red Alert. Then get this game.

fairly satisfied

The expansion for act of war is a pretty good game however even though it says it features naval units it only has them in the campaign. Aside from that it features some interesting new units. Task force talon no longer has to leave their base to fight with some of their units such as the spinner titan missle launcher. The u.s. has more powerful (but sort of overpowered) infantry that can take on some of the consortium's weakest tanks.Along with several new units and upgrades based on special abilities. The consortium are still about the same. The game now has better artillery than it originally had. If you were going to buy it for the naval units then don't. It is still a very good game and is worth the money.

Much improved over Direct Action

I really enjoyed Direct Action, except that I found it too short and too easy. High Treason is a welcome expansion pack that adds many more single-player scenarios. Some of the new units are fun too. The best improvement is that they added the ability to look around the battle field and issue orders while the game is paused, which really should have been in the first game too.

This game would be great.... If it worked

I've tried everything from patches to updating all the drivers on my comp. My Dell isn't even a year old and this game keeps erroring up upon loading. This is the only game that has done this and now it looks like I wasted my money on this poor attempt of a game. It says that my video card software is not suppoted and it looks like there are only a couple that this game does support. Next time this company makes a game I suggest that they make one that supports all or at least most video cards so hard working people like me can actually play them. Don't waste your money like I did, this game may not work with your computer.

Not Great but Not Bad

I was hoping to use the Navy in the skirmishes but you can only use them in the missions or if you download the mod from Atari.

I am new to gaming. I enjoy command and conquer Generals, Zero Hour & Tiberium Wars. I also enjoy Earth 2160, Civilization, Myst, Ghost Recon & M/S Flight Simulator. The little I have played Act of War leaves me feeling I will like it also. I have had several head injuries and am not as quick as I used to be. I can use the mouse and some hot key commands and find I am fine with my selection os games. I cannot do games which require expert keyboarding skills. Hopes this helps.

Gosh, it took me a few weeks to get this one done. The second part of the Act of War series still had its great gameplay and beautiful wartime graphics but there is something definetly different than the first AoW. This one is WAY harder. There are times when you just begin to build your base and there are already enemy units swarming at your base (this is on standard, mind you). Yet even though that may hold you back from completing the game I still quite enjoyed this. This is a good game to get if you're into RTS style games

Good game good price, great value

I have to say that I am very happy with this game. i like the genre and like the warcraft or C&C style of gameplay. I like this game for what it is and nothing more. It occupied many nights and is still very replayable. I have gone back to it time and time again for a good ground pounding skirmish. I have downloaded maps and cheats for it to expand its game play enough that I am thoughly satisfied that I have gotten my moneys worth out of it.

I would say that this is one of the better C&C style games in recent years, though certainly not the best, it is none the less still very good.

Atari needs to make a patch...

...in order for the game to run properly. My original AOW works fine but this new game needs a patch. I had trouble installing it. In single player mode you CANNOT use the NAVAL UNITS. If it were not for the need of a patch I would like to play the game. I recieved the package fine just as advertised. Thanks you did a great job in getting me my game. It's up to Atarti to fix this game now!
