Waste of time for a Golfer

I love golf games. Golden Tee 99 and 2000 are the greatest golf games out today. I think Tee-off may be the worst. If you are over the age of 10 and like to play golf, don't buy this game. If you are prone to dreaming about playing your dreamcast and can't wait to get home to play them, don't buy this game! The people at Dreamcast should have have sent this game out to pasture when the original version was delivered. Do yourself a favor, buy a football or hockey game for now, and wait until Dreamcast puts out a real golf game.

Disappointed

This game is a major disappointment. My biggest problem is not with the goofy characters, the poorly designed courses, or the inaccurate ball physics, but with the thing most other golf games get right: the gameplay. In order to advance through the program, one has to play 90 (!) holes along with another computer-controlled character. This takes a remarkably long time, and is hardly worth the wait. Hopefully some other manufacturer will step in and fill the void.

Being an avid golfer and a big fan of Tiger Woods for Playstation, I was very excited about a dreamcast golf game. I was very diappointed to see what I had paid for. Animated characters, simplistic game play (way too easy), and just boring in general. Stay away and wait for a real golf game to come out.

Tee Off Falls Short of Expectations

Tee Off reminds me of an Atari game in its content and an original Nintendo game with its graphics. I would not recommend this game to anyone. I played for one hour and put the game up for auction on line. It was truly a major dissapointment. You would really expect much more from a Sega Dreamcast game!

Good investment....if you're under 4 years old.

A complete waste of money. It reminds me of the old Nintendo golf game, but not as fun. People should save their money for the big titles coming out in February like Crazy Taxi and Rainbow Six.

Pokemon Golf

Not very exciting. Game play is dull, setup is worse, got hole in one within first 30 minutes. Characters are stupid and most of them are girls that make corny remarks after shots. It should be called Pokemon Golf. I love golf games but this one stinks. I'd recommend buying mario golf for gameboy before buying this!

Don't buy it.

This game is not very good because the games to easy to beat. You get a hole in one in the first 10 minutes you play the game.

How About a Golf Game for Serious Golfers?

This game is not without charm. It has its pluses and minuses:

On the plus side:

1) It is the only golf game available for the dreamcast right now.

2) It is fun with two or more people

3) Even non golfers can play and understand it.

4) Did I mention it is the only golf game available for the Dreamcast presently?

One the minus side:

1) You cannot hook, slice or perform any specialty shot. You can only hit the ball straight, so if you are right behind a tree you cannot get to the green.

2) This is a Japanese game "Americanized" by changing the text of the game and the language that the players speak from Japanese into English. Players will say goofy stuff that doesn't make sense. Example: One golfer will say something like "Well, at least it was close" when he holes a par putt. What the heck does that mean? Close to what? Not going in? Why would someone be happy that a putt was close to not going in?

3) You cannot turn off the speech in the game, you can only move the speech volume scale in options to the lowest setting.

4) Those big heads and Pokemany figures! Look, a game that has cutesy pie graphics can get away with it if the game has amazing detail, great playability or excellent statistics. There is none of that in this game. There is nothing special or compelling about this game that makes up for its inelegance.

5) Nonexistent statistics. Don't expect greens in regulation, number of putts, scoring average.. or anything like that in this game.

6) The game is too easy to hit a perfect shot from the fairway (all you have to do is get the shot off in a very wide section of the swing arc)and too hard to hit from the rough (often you will only be able to advance the ball 100 yards from the rough). The gameplay is silly.

7) Did I mention the big heads?

Bottom line: I would call this a cutesy-pie Japanese style game that probably isn't going to satisfy a hardcore golfer. If you are a serious golfer and want a game that has real world detail and playability, this is not it.

I cannot play this game in one player mode and enjoy it at all, it is a bit too simple and cute for my tastes. It is fun, however, playing this game with friends.

This game did not have any of the following items that I feel a good golf game should have:

I want a golf game that has realistic golfers taking realistic swings on realistic golf courses. I want detailed statistics, tournament play, leading money winner stats, knockdown shots, hook and slice shots and for goodness sake, either applause or cheering when a good shot takes place, PLEASE do not have the golfer say stuff that a Japanese programmer thinks an American player would say. The culture difference can be creepy.

A Good Game.

Tee Off is not a great game. But I found it to be very enjoyable. If you are a fan of golf, you will probably like this game. Gameplay is easy to learn and challenging. Still, Tee Off lacks graphically, especially for a Dreamcast game. Most of the courses look the same and could have used more variety. Playing the World Tour option is fun in that it allows you to unlock golf balls, clubs, and new characters. Overall, Tee Off is good but not great.

Hot Shots Golf for the DreamCast

This game is remarkably similar to Hot Shots Golf for the Playstation. Where it falls short is the on course controls like zooming in and out, the interface is a bit clumsy and my character says the same things over and over. Tee Off excels in the graphics and is the best looking cartoon golf I've played (HS, CyberTiger and now this) Hitting the ball is really easy and the ball physics are well done. I also didn't enjoy the camera angles during the flight of the ball. It plays very much like an arcade golf game which isn't bad, however it falls short of both CyberTiger and my favorite Hot Shots.
