This game is one of the best in my collection. Considering the platform that it's for, the grapics and details are very sophisticated. With so many options open to you during the game, you can find serveral different ways to complete a single goal. You can choose to outright knock a gaurd out with a ring airfoil, or sneak up behind him and "make him smile ear to ear" or be really sneaky and lurk through the shadows without the gaurd even noticing your presence.

You also have a rather extensive arsenal. You can choose three different types of grenades, a pistol, and rifle with several types of ammo such as a "ring airfoil," "sticky cam," "sticky shocker," or just plain bullets. Once you get farther in the game you find that you have to conserve all the ammo you can find. This makes the game more challenging and interesting. You then have to decide on things such as whether to risk slinking around in the shadows with a gaurd near by, or to manuver your way behind him and send him off to dream land.

Though it can get hard and repetitive in some places, you'll eventually figure out the key to every level. Once you've gotten through all of the levels, you can then use a cheat provided in the game, to have unlimited equipment. This makes the hardest levels seem like a breeze. Caos Theory also as a story line you can actually follow, and the in game short movies have good graphics and are a nice reprieve every once and a while.

I got this a while ago and am still finding different hiding places and ways to avoid gaurds. I will say that this game maybe isnt the best for those without patience, just like your grandmother told you, "patience is virtue." Have fun!

Great game, but does have its technical problems

First things first-seriously, don't believe the bad rap all the critics have given this title-I usually will heed bad reviews on most games, but I decided to try this one out anyway, despite the many reviews citing it as "unplayable" and was VERY pleasantly surprised.

Here's a simple pro/con to help you out:

Pros:

1. Great graphics
2. Plays basically like its larger counterparts
3. It's a lot of fun, once you get the hang of the controls
4. The story basically follows the console verions (i.e. it's good)
5. The multiplayer is fun (if you have someone to play with)

Cons:

1. Graphics, although impressive, aren't the fastest-it's playable (although you probably won't be using the thermal goggles much, the night vision is o-k)
2. The lack of a "knockout" or real knife attack (you can only cut throats after you grab someone)-it would've sped up the gameplay a little, but I can see why the developers would want to keep the pace of this game a little slower-it's a handheld game! Lots of grabbing isn't that bad anyway-plays much like the first game!
3. The controls do take a little getting used to-but after going through the training mission 2 or 3 times and playing the first level, which is fairly easy, I felt like I was playing Splinter Cell on my xbox-the controls are intuitive enough, once you get the hang of them.
4. All text-no speech in game It can be a little annoying, but I know the voices from the console so I just read the lines in my head with their voices and it seemed basically the same

All in all, i would strongly recommend this game as it really is fun and the main problem most have with it, the framerate, is NOT as bad as it seems and is quite playable. However, if you really can't stand somewhat sluggish graphics (they still aren't the fastest), then this is NOT the title for you.

I rate this game an 8.5-9 out of 10.

I'm not a kid...

im just to lazy to register. First of all, disregard everything that first guy said, i didnt notice any choppy framerates. the game is amazing, every level takes at least 1/2 an hour to beat, and you get very rapped up in the action. the graphics are amazing, except the blood looks like crap for some reason. it is not hard to control, there is just more freedom of gameplay, and therefor more complex controls than Goldeneye DS. Easily the best game on DS so far, much longer and more fun than Goldeneye DS (which i loved). By it without hesitation

This Review Will Change the Way You Look at This Game!!

Well, this is the first time i've played a Splinter Cell game. I read one of the books and said to myself that I should try the game for the DS. I live in Germany and am stationed at Ramstein Air Base so I had to wait a while for the BX to stock up on the game. Well finally, they had it for $30 and I had just enough money. I bought it and immeditaly played it. The game is by far REALLY hard. It took me a day to make it to level 2 and level 2 is even harder. You have to rob a bank, not be seen, and can't kill anyone! Bull-crap. Even when you are as quiet as a mouse the guards seem to see you. So when they see you on Level 2 you got 2 choices: Kill him and fail the mission or run for your life and hope he forgets about you. Another con is that even when you bash a door down and even fire your weapon at a gurad and miss, he stills seems to see no sign of danger until he gets about face to face with you. You're probably thinking: "That Sam Fisher must be really stealthy then!" You're wrong. One good thing about the game is that it really is fun and it makes it challenging when you have to conserve your ammo because you don't have alot of it. I ran out twice and had to start doing head-shots with my sticky cams! But overall, if your're a future spy or like to scare your sister and need some training, then this is the game for you!

Choppy framerate and difficult controls

This game sounds good on the box and the graphics look decent in pictures, but the real game is far from it. The framerate is super choppy, to the point that its not even fun. Also, the controls require that you use all the DS buttons, plus the screen. So you have to adjust things with the stylus, while you move with the D-pad and also press the right-hand buttons! I dont know how the developers could release this game that is barely a beta version. If you are into 3D shooters, check out Goldeneye.

Just Not Fun

Well, it tried. With TCSC being so great on the consol, you think it would be on a handheld. This game just doesn't cut it.

First off, the graphics. The graphics are very, very cheap looking. At times, they look all right, especially the characters, but if you take a look at the enviroments and all, they are just bland and not exciting. 2.5/5

Next, the sound. It's a SplinterCell game, so any sound should sound good, because there isn't much of it. The sound in this game is just as cheap as the graphics, except worse. You might as well play on mute. 1.5/5

Now, controls. The controls are as easy as could be, which isn't fun. I mean this is not a fun game to play on the road for many reasons. It's controls are a bit sensitive, and sometimes non-responsive at times so if you are in a car, and hit a bump, it may cost you the level. 2/5

And finally, the fun. This game is as easy as this: not fun. Consol versions are similar to this in the way they TRY to paly, but consol versions have: better graphics, better sound, better control.. better everything. This game also has problems with its 'loading times'. You may be in the middle of a level and turn a corner, and randomly, the cartridge will freeze temporarily, then resume. The pauses average about 6 seconds or so, and they happen semi-often, which is not cool; especially for a cartridge. 1.5/5

What you should do is stay away from this. I rented this because I had the game pass, and i took it back as quick as it took be to get in and out of the store pretty much. There are some better titles on the DS, and the better shooter is Goldeneye Rogue Agent, even though that game is not too great either, but it IS better.

everybody complains mainly of the graphics because their standards are to high, well graphics don't make a game quality makes a game. I'll admit that the graphics could do better and the framerate needs more work on but they got lighting effects right and you still get all the gadgets and extra game modes the console had. the sound does get repetetive so since they have the sound bar I just play it on mute (no big deal). I'd give it 7 out of 10 but since they only have 5 stars I'd give it a 3 so rent it see if you like it if you don't don't buy it. that is all I have to say.

Best Graphics for DS that I've seen so far ...

I'm going to have to disagree with all the other people who made negative comments. I've had my DS for a few months now and haven't run into a single game that had decent graphic. Every game I looked at was the typical Nintendo graphics but when I came across this Splinter Cell the graphics are just like the one you would play on a Xbox. Umm .. there is one thing I agree on and that is the maps are a little confusing and you'll end up walking in circles in some areas due to low lighting but I really liked this game and my step-son who loves CounterStrike, Halo, and SplinterCell won't let go of my DS. He agrees with me that this is the best game ever on DS.

This is an excellent game
