Glitches Abound, but overall good

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 9 / 9

I won't rehash what other people have said, but will reiterate the mic issue. It has problems.

Now, I enjoy this "game" a lot, and recommend it highly, BUT, if you are color blind, or even if you don't see the color red (which is fairly common in men) don't get this game. I'm not color blind, but have family members who are, and while I live thousands of miles away from my family, my first thought on the Brain Age test, was if you were color blind there is no way you could ever play this game regardless of how well you do mentally.

Two of the tests require color recognition, one in the "No, I can't speak aloud" category, and up to two in the "Yes I can speak."

In the "Stroop Test" you are required to say the name of the COLOR of a word, regardless of what the word actually says. The other, "Number Cruncher" will present you with a screen full of numbers doing various things in numerous colors, with a question on top such as "How many red #'s are there."

Overall good, but if colorblind, don't waste your money

Shoddy

Essentially a good idea, but utterly hamstrung by poor speech recognition and VERY poor character recognition.

Make no mistake, these two things serve to completely ruin the game.

Finally--A Game to Exercise the Mind!

This is a fantastic game concept. I would have given it 5 stars except that the game falls short on voice recognition, especially in the voice mathematics calculations test. It also makes some mistakes when it gives the brain age test for colors, but they are not as bad as the voice math test. I suppose it is because there are more words to recognize in the math test versus the four colors in the color test.

I found that regular practice with the game did improve my memory.

Great concepts, less then steller execution.

The main problem with this game is the poor speach and character recognition. If this had been improved just a little bit the overall experience would've been improved drastically. But as it is the recognition problem makes this game entirely unplayable if you are serious about trying to improve your "score".

Nothing is more frusterating than saying "blue" and to repeatably be rejected when it's the correct answer. Since the objective is speed what's the point of even bothering?

I found myself quickly starting to ignore everything but the Sudoku aspect of the game (which also suffers from poor character recognition). Again since your time suffers so greatly from an incorrect answer it's incredibly frusterating when you write a 9 for a 4 to pop up which i often miss correcting because i'm trying to rush through the puzzel to get a good time.

I love the concept but it's hard to recommend any game that suffers from such central flaws.

Do not buy this game from GameStop

I have not gotten the game, so no review on the game. I did just purchase the game as a part of a bunch of number items from Amazon. Got the confirmation eMail and realized that GameStop was charging $5.99 shipping on a $19.99 game. Ouch. Also got nailed with sales tax. Because the order was passed to an Amazon partner, I could not cancel. I hope the game is worth $30, because that is what i paid thanks to GameStop. The system forced me to enter a rating, so gave it a $30 rating. Learn from my mistake.

A Quick Play

This is a great game to sharpen your brain skills. It has fun mini-game type activities that are used to calculate how old your brain is and to increase prefrontal cortex performance in the brain. There are a few downsides to the game. The first being that the daily training is once a day only. You can check your brain age once a day as well, with three activities, but that is about all you can do in one day. The redeeming factor, for me, is the ability to play Sudoku. Once I have completed all the Sudoku puzzles, the game will decrease in fun for me because once daily isn't enough. There should be an increase in activities and how often you can play.

Brain Age is really good for students in school. I just got it today and the activites help you concentrate and are alot of fun. Do Brain Age before studying for a test, or on the bus before school. It will help you in school pretty well.

I just got this game yesterday and have been doing the exercises in it. The voice recognition works fairly well though not 100%. Like another reviewer has said sometime you say it right and it says you got it wrong. I do find this mostly when you say blue. I find the room you are in has to be real quiet. I have improved my"Brain Age" I was a 56 and now I am a 40. Good for me since I am 52!
My 10 yr old son wanted to do it and his brain age is 75. He says it is ok but not his type of game to play.
I do enjoy it though, but it isnt something that you want to play with for hours on end.

Sudoku is great, training is fun

My husband and I purchased a joint copy of brain age. We both enjoy sudoku puzzles, so we thought we would give this game a try. The sudoku puzzles on this game are fun. The program allows you to include smaller-subscript numbers until you are certain of your answer.

The training is OK - some days I am not in the mood for the drills. There is not much variety in the training.

Buy this for the sudoku- its great and you will enjoy it.

Don't Listen to the "Recognition" Negativity

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 12 / 17

All these people that are giving this game like a 1 or 2 stars just because they say it can't detect your voice or what you write really don't know what they're talking about. I write extremely sloppy at times and it still detects what I write. I would have to say that the writing recognition is superb, and borderline amazing. I do chicken scratch 3's and other numbers, and yet it still knows what I'm writing. And as far as "blue" goes, well that is the only color that can give you trouble sometimes, but once you figure out what works for you it just isn't a problem. Other than these complaints that seem to come from nowhere, this game is a great way to keep your mind active and truly a breakthrough for any portable gaming device. Great to have if your looking to stay sharp, or great to have if your simply looking for some fun, especially with Sudoku. Get it!
