Myst V is more like URU than Myst IV is.

Myst V was like URU in some ways. I felt like It took too long to listen to Escher each time (main character), but he had hints every time. The ages were interesting; Yeesha is older. There is a snow age, two beach ages, a star age, and another age which will seem familiar. The ages were smaller, not too small, and the slate was a new thing, used with puzzles. It was worth playing, despite being lower on the Myst totem pole. It's better than many other games that are violent or immoral.

The ending seemed elusive. Despite being called "End of Ages", there is no "right" ending in this game (as far as beyond solving the ages). You have to enjoy the puzzles, because you end up on familiar teritory, and that's the end. No speech at the end, like usual. I like what Atrus has to say in general. His speech is darker in tone, than usual. This game is worth playing, but lower your expectations, it's not the big finale it might have been. Also a few of the events described in journals seem darker than previous games. Mostly, the journals are OK, though.

Also, the game comes on 3 CD-ROMS, to load, but plays off of the first CD for the whole game. You can play it without switching disks, ever.

Myst V, Throwback to Uru

Myst V is a departure from the previous Myst series of game, but it is much like Uru with the animated characters as opposed to video cuts. It is not bad, but I did miss seeing live characters as with Riven, MystIII & IV. The puzzles are fairly easy but still challenging. Overall good game ... I wouldn't have paid the original price when it was first released though.

I really enjoy the game as it makes you think and search for clues in place one would never think possible. I have all of the Myst series and have loved all of them.

If you liked the previous MYST games, then this one will not dissapoint...a little easier because you have a guide that shows up to help you figure out what needs to be done, but doesn't tell you how to do it, which I always had a hard time doing in the previous MYST games...
The graphics are wonderful and the worlds are beautiful...
The only negative besides having to once again have a walkthrough is the fact that you can't skip ahead of the dialogues, you have to listen to the WHOLE thing before moving on...

Myst V is better than Myst IV, because although there is a "time" aspect to the puzzles, they aren't as miserably hard as those in Myst IV. Todelmer.

A lil bit disappointing, too much video of the characters talking. I just don't think watching them shuffle around while talking to me helps keep my attention in the game. Other than that it is a good game!

Myst V: End of Ages is the greatest installment of the Myst saga so far, and the best finale I feel ever was written! The plot twisted and turned as well as the classic old-style mystery movies way back when, and the video graphics were top-notch. The writing of the storyline could trick even the sharpest sleuth, and it was a difficult game at times, but not so much so that one is tempted to give up. I truly enjoyed stretching my brain working on this game!
