Whether you're a fan of RTS games or perhaps just interested in a different type of game, then I highly recommend Age of Mythology. It really is part of the Age of Empires family except with a great big twist:
Positive:
1.) Graphics: The realism of the characters, buildings, and units is just great in this game because they all move and act realistically. I also have to mention that the water is incredible because you even watch the ships sink down into it as it glistens all around it.
2.) Music: Great as always, I wouldn't expect anything less from Ensemble. It's very unique to this game and puts you in that mythic mood.
3.) Characters: They're all very unique and have their own special powers that, when used, will do nothing less then blow you away.
4.) Campaigns: From the moment you start the first one until the very last one that you finish, you're glued to your screen.
5.) Unique character abilities: In AOM you can get heroes that all have their own special abilities. Some will charge into battles, others will leap to get a jump start. Either way they're all unique and fun.
Negative:
1.) Saving: At times it can take a little bit longer to save your game but it's nothing that really gets on your nerves.
Summary: If you're an RTS fan or simply curious about AOM, I recommend this game because it's one of the most addicting games I've ever played. Many compare to Rise of Nations or Civilization, but I feel that it's in its own category. Fresh, new, and dare I say it, an addiction.

My little brother (who is 13) has been hooked into the "Age Of Empires (AOE)" since he was 10. One day, when having nothing to do, I snuck into his room and for some strange reason picked up this game to play. And now... I'm seriously hooked!! It's scary, because I seem to learn more about history on this game then I do at school - and the thing is that I enjoy learning with this game.
Although with a few differences, Age Of Mythology is set out in a similar format to the other AOE games. The campaign challenge of this game is based on Arkantos and the Wooden Horse of Troy. You have to build up your own civilization and provide food for your people, collect wood for buildings, and gold for armour. You also have to worship your god, Zeus, to gain the ability to create mythological creatures such as centaurs, medusas and ogres.
In conclusion, I would recommend this to those interested in strategy games; greek, viking or egyptian mythology and history; and particulary to primary school teachers, because kids can learn alot from games like this... like I did!!
One of the best games ever!

Age of Mythology(Or AoM)is a fantastic game that not only is fun but also teachs mythology and about the real history of the Eygptians the Greeks and the Norse along with information on animals. In this game you must collect resorses to build your army and defeat your enemys while keeping your own town center safe. Not only do you have human soliders such as Toxotes and Ulfsarks you can also use powerful monsters such as Mummies Cyclops and Giants.Better yet you can use god powers that can change the tide of battle such as Metors Tornados and even sommon a Norse dragon named Nidhogg. For more chaos you can download more stuff from the Internet and have multiplayer games Online. And for more fun(Witch is amazing there can be anymore)you can buy the Titans Expanion witch adds 1 more civilazaton the Atlenteans!
Dissapointed

Honestly, I am very dissapointed in the Expansion set. It was definitely not worth the 29.95 I payed for it. A campagn with 12 missions and almost no story line is NOT what I pay $30 for. I agree that the graphics and AI are well done, but my favorite thing about any strategy game is the campagns. They are what made Age of Empires II so playable, the campagns were awesome, and you almost got some history in them. I think a campagn based on the Iliad or Odyssey would have come out fabulous. But this....
War Craft III on the other hand has several campagns ranging from RTS strategy to a sort of RPG. They did a excellent job in my opinion. I honestly think that the campagn for The Titans expansion was just not the bang for the buck.
Vastly superior to other games on the market

I confess my initial reluctance to buy an expensive expansion pack for "Age of Mythology." The main reason I bought it was that I knew I could dispose of it on Ebay or Amazon if it failed to meet expectations.
After several months, I have kept both the game and its expansion pack, and have no plans ever to sell.
"Age of Mythology" and the "Titans" are worth every penny, and not just for kids either, unlike Warcraft. Yet I think this is a far more appropriate game for children because it effectively teaches mythology and ancient warfare and may spark an interest in history and the classics. Whereas, Warcraft's nothing but silliness, purple prose and fluff. Kids are not all that stupid after all and suggesting a dumbed-down game for, say, a thirteen year-old is just insulting.
The ability to create a Titan definitely adds a new wrinkle to the game and increases the hand of the fortress-builders out there. Better still than the titans themselves are the new civilization (Atlantis, completely different from all other civs) and new maps. Old timers gripe about this or that minor detail, but come on, this is a major step up from "Age of Mythology," as can be proven by noting how few still play AoM alone.
The AI on this game is pretty good, though as with almost all AI, it is easy to see where it could be better. By giving five stars, I am not saying complete perfection has been achieved here, only that this game surpasses all others in its class at this time (which I find a sensible standard for judging technology-sensitive computer games). "Titans" is about on par with, if it does not exceed, the pleasure of playing Civilization III. This is far more sophisticated and intellectually demanding than the "Warcraft" series.
If you like Civ, you will love "Titans".
A Titan's Load of FUN!!!

This is a great, I repeat GREAT game. You will get more than your moneys worth out of Age of Mythology. It's hard to master, but easy to learn! It has a bit of educational value (considering it's a flat-out war game). You can create amazing and powerful mythical creatures and heroes to help you in your battles or just create a huge army of foot soldiers and storm the castle gates. A series of fun, new scenarios and maps along with an intreiging storiline and cool characters makes this game one in a mythical million.
Doesn't play very deeply, but fun for awhile

Think Age of Empires/Empire Earth/Command & Conquer/every other battle simulator, but with figures from mythology thrown into the mix.
This is another video card-blaster of a game, with a whopping 2 discs to install, but the game is decidedly worth the effort. Instead of simply tweaking a few soldiers and making them minotaurs or whatever they've really gone all out and created research trees, civilization benefits, etc., all in the name of conquering other civilizations in the name of your very active pantheon.
You can play as either Egyptian, Norse or Greeks (and Atlantis in some warm-up sections), and your units, buildings, gods and heroes are all culture based. I learned more about Greek mythology playing 2 hours of this than I did in 4 years of high school.
The graphics aren't as seamless as Empire Earth, which is my personal fave, but the unfolding of the cultures and such is done in a way that's refreshing and unique. I anticipate a cool expansion in its future...it's going to need one to keep people interested after a couple of weeks.
The major flaw here is that the play isn't very deep. There aren't enough pantheons or ways to manipulate the gods you do have access to, and with a whopping 4 ages, you advance pretty quickly to the design limits of the game and get bored.
The guide that comes with it is surprisingly wack, telling you almost nothing, and while the chart that comes with it is pretty, it certainly isn't for quick reference. I guess when the game has a Prima strategy guide on the first day of its release it doesn't matter, but you should be able to excel at the game with what it comes with and some practice. If I have to spend even more money to figure out how to really play the game, why not just tack the cost of the strategy guide to the game and include it? Because it makes too much sense, that's why.
Almost worth the money, even with the heavy, memory-sapping engine and the lack of info out the gate.
Super-Duper!!!

This is the best game in the Mythological world! It'd real cool how you get to use god powers. Enter this cheat to get the best powers: Wrath of the Gods.
Have tons of fun in Age of Mythology.
Gameplay does not live to expectations.

First of all, this game is beautiful. The graphics and sound are phenominal. From the fish swimming around in the transparent oceans to the character animations, it just looks awesome.
That aside, I've been playing the AoE franchise since it first came out and I guess I was expecting more from this game. The maps seem too small, and the civs are so different, and playing different civ's makes it like a different game which tends to have people move towards focusing on a specific civilization because the learning curve on each one is so different.
The single player campaign is pretty good, but the staying power AoE & AoE2 had came from multiplayer gaming... This one just won't make it.
Age Of Mythology delivers bigtime

I wasn't sure at first. It looked like a microsoft version of warcraft 3. But it turned out to be a blast. It's textures are awesome and so is the gameplay. And the power of the gods, fun fun fun. It brings a new perspective to the age of empires series. I could see them even do a lord of the rings game, just like the starwars game. I'll buy it. Hope this helped your decision.
