This version adds a fouth race to the game. There were Greeks, Egyptians, and the Norse. The new race are Atlantians. Atlantians are very unique to the rest: they are faster yet more expensive.
Fell short of an "Age" game.

I love PC strategy games. I have to say that "Age of Mythology" was a let-down from the progression of the "Age of Empires" titles. I think "Age of Mythology" was probably being used by Ensemble Studios as stop-gap money earner, and also a building block for the next game in their AOE series.
The Good: In Age of Mythology, Ensemble made the jump to a 3-D graphics engine, which is now expected from all RTS games by the gaming community. It also has that same "feel" of an "Age" game, and the same style and ease of use through the User-Interface. The cultural specialization of the games civilizations is also very well done.
The Bad: One word - "scale". While the rest of the RTS genre was going "Epic" - massive battles, huge fortifications, very large maps, complicated economies, yada, yada... Ensemble went small scale with "Age of Mythology". Don't expect to see more than around 120 units in any single army in this game. Also... the whole "Mytholgy" aspect may be a bit of a turn-off to those who are accustomed to the more "historical/real-world" background of the "Empires" series.
The ugly: Graphics - Even when "Age of Mythology" was released, the detail was lack-luster, and obtuse, even with all the graphic bells 'n' whistles turned on. Note to Ensemble - if your going to go small scale when building a game, you need to make the graphics spectacular.
My advice - if you are a big fan of the "Age of Empires" series, skip "Age of Mytholgy" altogether... hold out for "AOE III".
Expansion is very disapointing

Well the first one was very nice, making difrent types of units to counter or lead atackes waching the great graphics or using gods powers to shmash your enemiews to bits or to restor or units or even your economy, but the canpaingne way way way to short. unlike the other age of ****** games that ive played over the year this campaigne focuses on the same story over and over again i mean come on (at first, you must please posident and kill troy) ok ive done that movign on (now revive the egyptian god ) ok finished (rebuild thors hammer to revive his strength ) im not sure about you but i see a patern there, REVIVE THE GODS i mean ya its cool but over and over and over again??? it gets alitle boring! just a bit, also what i noticed is that you make them to easy even in titan mode i made when i had to renunit the pieces of osiris or re-awake the gaurdian i didnt even need osiris or the gaurdian to finish the army that came after sure lets give them cheap units that can kill anything that freaking has less then 14000 hp in one hit! Or when i had to survive norse atack for 15 minuts lol that was the funiest one ever i just went and destroyed there citeis from the start and then i see a army actualy bigger than mine so i think finaly i get to use startagy no just watch units fight each other but tell them what to atucally do and kill him eventho i have a smaller army but no! you just have to let me win after i break a stone wall down? i mean come on were not new to these games we have all played at least of age of **** game before in our lives! in the other age of ******* games we had to actualy destroy the army at the end we had to use our brains to think how we can use our smaller armies aginst that huge one in a small amout of time and you made sure we coudnt get a bigger army then there with population limits now that was fun. no moving on to the expasion...IM VEry DISAPOINTED! the atleantians are wwwwaaaaayyyyyy to over powered i mean come on so what the they have a jackass carring there food.gold/wood for them that blody basket sould get full some time soon all the units came become hereos and reusable god powers? sure that may sound good but its get boring smashing the poeple online that are true to the oldies and wana win the old FUN way but alway encounter noobs that never played this game before and somehow manage to beat them with atleantians i mean i can just send an army of 20-70 men into my enemy base and contuniu ordering my vilager knowing il win the fight but in the old game you had to comand you armies t use there advantages over other units not just go and start smashing a castle when the are 35 units hakking away at you! over all you guys reuind the game, maby im just to good at it and i need a chaleng that why i beat all you campaignes in titan mode in 5 hours time and the expansion in 2 hours time when on age of conqurers i keept tasting defate at i didnt sleep all night for i was thinking of a new way to put my ennemies in there place!
Remember the old ways poeple sometimes there funner
Not worth it...

Age of Mythology, the original, is a great game. The campaign is fun. The random map games are great. The animation is stunning. The monsters and units are well thought out. I would DEFINITELY suggest the original.
**HOWEVER** I feel this expansion pack was not worth the money at all. I played with it installed for about a half hour (and used cheat codes to investigate all the new things) and then promply uninstalled and sold it. The ONLY fun part about it was actually getting the titans, but the atlantians are pitiful in the sense of buildings and units. I was very disappointed in it.
If you feel like trying it, go ahead. But I would not suggest buying it.
Extremely fun, but some complaints

Age Of Mythology, in my opinion, is the BEST GAME in the "Age Of Empires" series, and adds several new dimensions to gameplay, including God Powers, Myth Units, Heroes, and better tutorials. the included cinematics teach how to play as the Egyptians and Norse cultures, while the interactive Learn to Play campaign teaches how to play as the greeks. The gameplay is streamlined and fun, and the different god powers and major god's bonuses can REALLY affect gameplay and choices. I only have 4 major complaints. 1: the population limit. you can only have a limited amount of units, which can be increased by building Town Centres and Houses. that's a great concept, but you can only have 10 houses, throwing a wrench into anybodies hopes of building a huge army which is designed to be the focal point of the game. oh, yeh, and you can't build town centres untill the heroic age (third age of 4) 2: The Campaign: the campaign starts having a great plot, an admiral who's past his prime and just fighting pirates for atlantis (who get to become a distinct culture in AOM: The Titans expasion pack)who gets flung into an adventure that determines the fate of both Mortals and Immortals, but gets bad quick, about halfway into the Egyptian part. the bad guy keeps going to more places to extend his plan, (SPOILER) until we find out there's one more portal, in Atlantis, where it ends abruptly and our hero gets turned into an immortal.(END SPOILER) the hero from egypt is great, but there are no real major characters from the norselands. 3: The AI, they always just amass huge armies and let them sit. and even worse, the AI civilizations who are your allies always mooch off you, and you can't change your diplomatic stance (Which isn't fixed in TITANS)4: the Editor, it's far too complicated. And moddings difficult, even for this 12-year-old gifted computer whiz. On a happy note, the random maps are very fun, and a lot of planning needs to be done.
AOM VS CIV III (alone)
Unit Management: in civ 3, every unit needs to be moved individually, which gets VERY tedious.
AOM proves that RTS is better than turn-based.
score: AOM: 1 CIV: 0
Empire Management:
Civ 3 invests a lot in empire management, so much it becomes another dimension to play.
AOM doesn't have any of that, everyone follows your orders blindly, there is no morale, no taxes, NOTHING.
AOM: 1 CIV: 1
Age Advancement
Civ 3 makes you research many, many techs to advance ages, seen on a tech tree. While realistic, it gets tedious and annoying.
in AOM, advancement is as easy as pushing a button. infact, that's just about all there is to it. just get some food and gold and build something. unrealistic, but easy.
AOM: 2 CIV III:1
Game Length
any game of civ 3 is a huge investment of time. it can take months to finish, but sometimes that makes it all the more fun.
AOM games are quick and simple, usually taking 1-2 hours alltogether. it even includes a timer that tells you, to the second, how much time the game took.
quick and funs good, and so is a long investment. I gave them both a point.
AOM:3 CIV III: 2
So when it comes down to it, aom IS funner than civ 3, but just. Play Age Of Mythology, you might just like it.

AoM is a great RTS. The unitsare funn to use and the strategy involved is in my opinion better than WC3. The only problems is that gameplay in the single payer campaign gets repetetive. Buy this game if u like RTSs.
P.S: im over 13 i just dont have a credit card.
A RTS for the ages
