Best Poker Game out there Bar None.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 42 / 48

I saw it at a toy fair recently and I was blown away with the quality of customization, it looks even better than tiger woods customization ! The in game graphics are awesome, and you do work your way through a career mode unlocking tournaments and buying in to others. It has EVERY variation of poker and the AI is outstanding. I played it at the Toy Fair for over an hour until someone told me to let other people have a go... It is also ONLINE and you can take your custom character online too. It also supports VOICE CHAT and (a first in PS2 games) an ONLINE EYETOY mode so that you can actually see your real world opponents in REAL TIME!! even EA have never done that ! This is an amazing game for the money !

horrible gameplay

if you know anything about poker you will hate this game...players bet and call seemingly at random even on the "professional level". I didnt try the online mode but there is the possibility that it could be better against live opponents...i play real money poker on a daily basis and the only thing this has in common are the cards...7 card stud doesnt even have the correct betting structure...if you are looking for a good poker game....look elsewhere...your money is better spent if you trade it in for chips...

Watching Texas Hold'Em on TV? This game is for you!

If you ever caught yourself watching Texas Hold'Em on Celebrity Poker or the World Championship of Poker on cable, and you are a part of the growing community that finds this fun to watch and learn - then this is the video game for you! First off, it takes you from being an observer to playing the game - which is a hell of a lot more fun! You get to create your character and choose from a variety of extensive options (not just clothing or shades, but body size, jaw length, hair color...you get the idea). Then, you can play a variety of poker game types and even follow a career. But, the best part is the online capability. I have an Xbox, and the game works great online. You may play with a group of up to six other players online, and talk to each other while in the game. And, it is much more satisfying to beat out the other players when they are real people and not just AI.

Basically, you can play poker whenever you want in your living room without waiting for a poker night with your friends or needing to go online and loose real money. If your playing the game just for fun, or to clean up your personal skills for online or in-person play, this is the game for you. I received this game as a Christmas gift, and I have not stopped playing it since. I now play it more than my Halo2, which I thought would never happen! On the Xbox website, it is always rated in the top 25 online games getting traffic, and there is good reason. You will love playing this game online, if you enjoy Texas Hold'Em on television or if you are already playing online or with friends. And, it is only $20 bucks. What a bargain for all that play. Certainly cheaper than most big blinds!

Husband loves it !

I just got this for my husbands birthday. We love it! I never thought I would enjoy playing a poker video game, but this is just like being part of the TV shows! I had a lot of fun making my character and the tutorials for teaching you how to play are very very good. I play online under the name cardgal. It is so much fun with the video camera and the headset. A few of my girlfriends have bought the game, and we enjoy video chatting over a few hands of 7 card stud ! Great Great Game. I think we may have to buy another playstation as I have been hogging it with this game!

Solid Game - If you like Poker

If you like Poker and the different variations then you will most likely enjoy this game. The customization of your character is pretty detailed and a nice touch. Other reviews have stated the game is too slow, I have not found this to be true. I would say the pacing is just about right. By tapping the X button you can move things along if you are out of a hand. Sit and Go games and tournaments are fun. Only gripe I could come up with(this is a amatuer level) is that computer player checks too much, keeping me in hands longer than I should if I am fishing for a card. A raise might have forced me out. Maybe at the pro level it is more agressive. Do not play online but I can guess it would be fun, but if just playing at home I still recommend. If you are trying to satisfy your poker jones this is a good start.

Not great but certainly worth the price tag

First off for the record i can't get enough of Poker, and this game for the most part is exactly what i wanted in a PS2 game. I don't plan on playing this online (lets face it there are alot of better online options then any console game could ever deliver) but as an at home single player game it's certainly a solid game.

The game does have a couple problems which keeps it from a better score though. Most importantly the computer controlled characters can be a little predictable (very few real players check as often as the A.I. does in the game) and i wish there were alot more options for types of games such as five card draw.

However despite those problems there is much to like such as the huge 60-100 person tournaments and the ability to track your long term success and build a bankroll.

A great practice tool for the beginner or the more experienced player and a nice relaxing change of pace from alot of the other games i enjoy playing.

If you love poker how can you really go wrong for $20?

Good game overall

This was a good game overall, however it was lacking in several areas that decreased it's enjoyability.

The lack of multiplayer options aside from the PS2 network detracts from the overall game. The repetition and slowness of the game while going through the actual tournaments and poker games also detracts from the overall experience. However, it is a great experience for poker lovers who wish to enjoy a tournament for fun and not really gamble away any money.

A Decent Effort

Overall this game shocked me. When you hear of a poker game you kind of think it's going to be lame. All my friends kept saying how good this game is. It turned out this game is really good. There's 12 different types of poker here with multiple competitions you can compete in. The more money you have the bigger tournaments you can enter. The character custimazation is pretty deep. You can do everything from adjusting his ears to how big his feet are. The online play is a very nice addition. Playing against other people with the eyetoy is very fun. The game also only cost $20.00. That's why I gave this game such a good rating. It's fun and affordable. If your not a poker fan you should still give this a try. I wasn't a poker fan but after playing this game I am. It actually teaches you how to play the games and overall you'll become a better poker player.

If you have to have a poker game, but only if you have to!

Bought this game for the same reason I bet a lot of people did, it was only twenty bucks, so what the heck, but man o man it is not much. Yes you can customize your player, yes there are a few interesting poker varitations, and I am sure it is good online, but if you are planning on playing it by yourself don't buy this game.

The play is very slow, the computer very slowly pans to every player, and after a while it becomes frustrating waiting for hands to finish when you don't have a dog in the hunt. The sound is also pretty awful and repetitive also, the same music over and over, the same player noises, mostly badly done, and the same terrible commentary track, which makes the script for Madden Football look like it was written by the Bard himself. Oh and by the way you get to hear this commentary track over and over again no matter what type of game you play or how long it lasts.

I guess what I am saying is only buy this game if you have to have something for your PS2, or if you only have twenty dollars in your pocket, otherwise buy a deck of cards and find some friends. I promise you will have more fun.

A Waste of Money!!!!!!

This game is a great How to Play learning guide because of the variety of Poker Games available but let's face it. Everybody is playing hold em these days. The offline play is horrible on it's most difficult setting. The play of the AI will never make since. The only place to have fun with this game is online and that has continued to do nonthing but get worse. I've completely stop playing this game there are just too many other free options that move alot quicker and it's easier to get games started. Setting up a game or finding a game to play in is by far the most difficult task and I'm almost never successful setting up one online, I'm always joining someone else game and sit & go's are never available. This game has a ton of potential should they choose to make another version for next it could be great. Possibly ad some multiple table options made be just what they need to do make hosting and joining games easier. They need to look at their internet competition and beat them. Online is where it's at for real gamers of any sort and this games online interface is horrible. Not to mention win you bust a player an a high limit the player simply shut's off his machine as not to lose the money he's played on choosing to record his positive earnings. There's no way to make people play the game the right or sort the good player from the bad player by virtue of their bank roll. Ex. You start a game with $100,000 and lose it, just turn off the game reload your character and bame theirs your money. This pronblem wrecks the gameplay not to mention what happens when that person is the host if the server doesn't migrate correctly then the entire game is fragged.

This review: was inspired by a review written on gamespot where the writer praised the online play. I was so appauled that I had to write a response everywhere I thought it counted. While you can find a game online with WCP alot of the time you are playing somene else's.
