GREAT, GREAT GAME, EXCEPT....

I just bought the game and I LOVE IT! It is a must have for PlayStation 2 owners. But there is graphic violence and it is not for kids. The Mature rating is very accurate. The only thing I do not like about it,...it is really a one player game unless you have a multitap, which I am purchasing this week.. If you like "shoot em up's" this is the game for you!!

THE BEST FPS - PERIOD!!!

HISTORY:

Since ID games invented this genre with Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, there have been many entries into this market that have proven to be unworthy contenders. While most games had impressive graphics (for their time), they lack in playablity.

For the longest time, one of games that stood out as achieving a balance between innovation and playability was Duke Nukem 3D. What made this game a multi-player frag feast was that besides having a unique style and great attitude, it had cool weapon set and almost perfect balance. This is almost the central component of a good first person shooter (FPS). What this led to in Duke Nukem was almost infinite frag variability and a whole lotta of fun...

Several years after that the action-game market remain without any new titles that captured the multiplayer crown from Duke Nukem, but then finally in the Winter of 1999 along games the new master of the FPS arena...

HAIL TO THE KING BABY!

Unreal Tournament is the new king of this genre. It has a perfect weapon set that is completely balanced. Unlike Quake, where the guy with the rocket launcher has traditionally had the upper hand, UT has some great frag alternatives like the now classic "head shot".

In the end this balance leads to better game play because it fosters equal opportunity fragging with everyone having a fair chance to kill, instead of just the guy with the biggest gun. Because as we know once has the RPG, he keeps the RPG for awhile, and that is inheritly unfair.

In addition the game has well designed, and well thought-out levels especially for deathmatch. UT also offers some great alternative multiplayer games including the awesome Capture the Flag.

So heres to Unreal Tournament, the best FPS, and in my humble opinion THE BEST GAME to come along in a long long time. I suppose it will reign supreme for awhile, until perhaps Duke Nukem Forever makes its long overdue appearance on the store shelfs. (...)

This was the first game i purchased for PS2. And i have to say this was well worth my money. I can recall one capture the flag level were i just sat in the top tower and just sniped every enemy that tried to take my flag. This game is one of the best games i played. I recommend this game to anyone who loves a great shoot 'em up game. Me, I'm the king of Shoot 'em up. Game or Shooting Range.

Still the best online game..

When I got this game for my birthday, I wasn't really happy; I had no internetconnection to play the game online. But as soon as I installed the game, I came to the conclusion that this game rocks even offline. The AI is very adjustable, and it just looks like you are playing online. If you buy this product, you will play it forever...

I played a lot of games in my life and I liked some of them. But after I played them for some time I usually never came back to play those games once more. Only a few games I played I liked so much that after a few months I started playing them again. One was WarCraft II. Another is Unreal Tournament. The game is awesome, it has many mutators so you can use them if you don't like some part of the game. Bots are very smart and provide enough challenge, making single player as fun as multi-player. The graphics are good and there are not many bugs in the game, so I reccomend this game to anyone.

P.S. Personally, I hate shooters, but I loved this one. So if you dislike shooters, buy it anyway.

Best FPS EVER!!

This game is absolutely wonderful. It is quite addicting. The bots in the game really give it an atmosphere of teamwork and deathmatch is hardcore. The Hall of Champions screen alone is worth getting to the end of the game for. It takes about five minutes to get used to the controls but there are different control options you can choose to suit your control style. Get this game, you cannot go wrong!

this game rocks !

To start off, I'll say the graphics are by far the best I've seen out of any of the Playstation 2 launch titles, and I found the controls, on the dual-shock 2 were easy to master, but there was one thing about this title that I really didn't care for, which was its multiplayer mode.

So far, there haven't been any really good multiplayer games that have appeared on this system. The multiplayer mode for Armored Core 2 had to have been the worst I've seen, but Unreal Tournament wasn't much better.

The amount of death match levels to choose from in 'multiplayer' mode is sad to say the least. I believe there is only seven or eight levels to choose from, and only five or six 'capture the flag' levels. One thing I did notice, which got to me even more was that all of the levels in 'one player' mode are accessible to those with an 'i-link cable', meaning I would require two to four ps2's, t.v.'s, and i-link cables to fully enjoy all the one player levels in multiplayer mode. Unless there is some sort of cheat to add more multiplayer levels, I'd say this game is a great dissapointment, because you can really only play the same levels for so long before you get sick of the sight of them. Plus, a lot of the levels to choose from are kind of boaring in appearance. Practically all of them take place indoors, and there aren't enough hazards around to keep things interesting. The pressure chamber was a nice touch, but its a shame that there weren't any living hazards as well. It does take place in space afterall. I wouldn't have minded to see monsterous renegade creatures that would attack anyone on any team, but that's getting off track.

Overall, this is a good title, but don't expect a lot out of its so called 'multiplayer' mode, or you'll be dissapointed.

Not the PC but fun

Unreal Tournment for the PS2 would never beat the PC version and I never expected it to. But when I started playing I started to think that this game might at least match the PC version. I was right. This is a fun PS2 game. Using the B control setup it was easy to get into and a lot of fun. The fact that it has auto aim made it a lot better. The control pad is a lot more sloppy then a keyboard and mouse but I didn't miss it. I wish that it had some kind of stats like in the PC version. I have played the PC version for a while and like the PC version I still haven't seen the chainsaw. I don't know if there is one but haveing a little Doom flashback would have been nice. This is a good game that does justice to the PC version. I bought it and am glad that I did.
