When you think of Super Bombad Racing, think Mario Kart ... but instead of little cars, you have cool little Star Wars ships. And the drivers are the various characters - with giant heads! It is TOO cute, and great fun.
There are the regular race courses, where you learn how to drive each character. They're all a bit different from each other, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Try to get through all the courses to unlock secret options and characters.
Like most of these games, though, it really gets fun when you bring on another human. Suddenly you've got a little Darth Maul chasing after a little Yoda, blasting away! With four players it gets even more hilarious.
A relatively short game on the single-player side, but endless fun with friends and family!
Pretty good for fans of the genre...

This was the game that finally got me to break down and buy a PS2. I like sort of wacky, off-beat games, and this fit the bill. It combines two things I'm pretty fanatical about: Kart racing and Star Wars. Since Super Mario Kart for SNES, Kart racing has been my favorite genre. The problem is that no game has ever exceeded the greatness of the original SMK. This one certainly doesn't. The presentation of the game is great. The characters all look strange and cool with super-deformed heads. They all make snide comments, taunt, look around and are very well animated. For all the criticism of the graphics, I must disagree. I think the graphics are actually raelly pretty cool for what they are. The designers were going for a cartoony look. The characters all have different abilities, and they actually do handle differently. Plus, each character has a special powerup only he or she can use. That does encourage players to at least try all the characters. The controls are smooth, and easy to learn, but of course are alittle "floaty" and different from standard kart games, because, after all, you are *flying*. It's a little like F-Zero.
There are some problems, though. First, the game is way too short. Sure, it packs a lot of two player fun, especially in battle mode, but the one player challenge is over way too fast. I beat all the circuits in about an hour and a half. After that, there's a mirror modes, a secret racer, trying to score your best time, etc. But the the thrill is over pretty quickly. One feature that the oiginal SMK had that, to my knowledge, no kart racer has had since was the way that record times were saved for courses WHILE you played the various Cup races. In all Kart games since, the records are stored seperately and only are affected by what you do in time trial modes. That little feature added a alot, in that it encouraged players to play the the circuits over and over again. Stunt Racer FX even saved an overall time for the circuit record. That would have helped here. As it is, once you play the circuits and get first in everything (which won't take long) you are going to relegate this game to the shelf until some human challengers visit. The game is worth holding onto just for the multiplayer, though. My second big gripe is that the game is a little buggy (like most Lucasarts PC games). The third track has frozen up on me several times and caused me to have to reset my PS2. Also, there are places in the game where you can get stuck and have to restart the course. The fountain in the Sheed city is a good example. There's no excuse for shoddy work like that!
Overall, the most important things is that this game is pretty fun and you'll either love or hate the *cute* factor. I loved it. I even liked Jar Jar. It got me to actually like some of the silly episode one characters, so it must be doing something right!
As a final thought, what's up with the Obi Wan's "surfer dude" make-over??? Some of the things he says and his new found valley-boy accent are really weird and don't make much sense....
Not the usual kart racer

From the swamps of Naboo to the planet of Corusant SWSBR covers the star wars universe. Lucas Learning has produced the most innovative kart racer since DKR on N64. All nine of the levels have plenty of eye candy like on Tatooine there are sniping Jawas on the cliffs, dewbacks and the impressive sandstorms. Also there is the option of driving all the courses backwards. I really liked the level designs instead of the usual one huge short cut per map there are several small ones and multiple routes per map. There are nine drivers to choose from(beat the galaxy circuit with Anakin to unlock Darth Vader) and each drives and handles differently. Also each character has thier own taunts and special weapon like Darth Maul throws his lightsaber and Obi-Wan can levitate the closest racer. There are five different modes of play. The Arena mode lets eight racers compete in a free for all on one of four different arenas. The controls were very easy to get used to. You just have to learn over 25 different gadgets to use along the way. So what are you waiting for pick your racer and blast Jar Jar into oblivion.
You CAN be Boba Fett!!

I loved this game ... mind you, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and most likely a little biased. Rent this one before you buy ... I loved it when I bought it, and it's growing on me more and more ... I've unlocked the Galaxy Circuit, the Mirror Mode (which will add challenge down the road when the regular coarses get too easy - it lets you play them flipped around ... what was on your left will now be on the right, etc..), and I've unlocked Darth Vader .... and just today I found out about the Cheat codes to play as Boba Fett in his little Slave I ... and there's also a code to ride in a Trade Federation AAT (Tank) ... and a code to make all the racers into Kaadus (the Gungan's steeds) Which just breathed more life into a game I was still having lots of fun playing ... now, if I can only get some friends over to play the multiplayer mode?!
PS: Win the Galaxy circuit as Anakin to unlock Darth Vader
Those cheats:
Boba Fett At the main menu, enter Square, Circle, Triangle, Circle, Square. If you entered the code correctly, a message will appear saying that Boba Fett has replaced your racer. When you start the game, you will be racing as Boba Fett.
Trade Federation Tank At the main menu, enter Circle, Triangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, Square. If you entered the code correctly, a message will appear to confirm entry. When you start the game, you will be playing as a battle tank.
All racers are Kaadu At the main menu, enter L1, R1, L2, R2. If you entered the code correctly, a message will appear to confirm entry. When you start the game, all racers will be Kaadu.
PPS. Just put the code in again to cancel each of the codes ... hopefully there will be more of these codes down the line?! ... Qui Gone? Han Solo? Aurra Sing? Jango?!

Don't be fooled by the screenshots here on Amazon. They were posted almost a year ago. I saw some recent screenshots of the game on a gaming portal and the screens look beautiful! A lot of added particle effects and added detail to the game. I'm excited to get my copy. Lucasarts did a great job with Starfighter so I'm sure Super Bombad will be equally impressive.
Good kart fun

A solid game from Lucas Learning. It's kart racing in the Star Wars universe. It doesn't add much new to the Mario Kart series, but it is a lot of fun. The tracks are fun, graphics are impressive and the characters are great. Unlock tracks as you go, typical of the genre, which keeps you engaged.
It may not be revolutionary in gameplay, but the ability to be Obi-wan or Darth Maul makes up for that. The large heads, etc. give it a kids' game feel, but it's fun for any kart racing fan.
Not bad, but not great.

This game is a lot like other kart-racing games of the past. You won't be amazed with the graphics or gameplay, but it's still a lot of fun to have Yoda running Queen Amidala off the road. I bought it because I am a huge Star Wars fan and anything even remotely related is cool with me, but if you've played all the others or aren't a big fan of Star Wars there may be better games for you. There are a bunch of cool gadgets, boards that I've never been to and shortcuts I've never found, so if you're into those kinds of things you'll probably like it. I'm glad I got it.
Fun with great animation.

This game is fun and has some killer animation! I have to say the oversized heads on the Star Wars characters are hilarious! My favorite is Darth Maul. This is a fun cart style game based on the Star Wars Episode I movie with most of the main characters in it (minus Kwai Gon Gin - of course I can't seem to spell this charaters name today! Too much coffee maybe!!) and scenes from the movie as well.
This is a fun game, but I do not recommend playing this game if you have any hand problems such as carpal tunnel as you are constantly pressing on the "x" button to make the carts go and using the toggle stick to steer the carts and it can be very sressful and tiring on your hands.
If you are a Star Wars fan or know someone, this would be a good game to get. It's a little on the pricey side but you can always shop around. Even at the high price it is still a fun game. If you have a local place that will rent the game, I would go that route first to see how the game is place, handles, etc., then purchase it if you truly enjoy it.
This game grows on you, very addictive gameplay

If you have seen any of the trailers or screen shots then you probably have a good idea of what the game will be like.. and I have to say that I wasn't dissapointed. I really liked the atmostphere of the game, the episode 1 setup really provides a good backdrop for a racer.
The characters are also quite funny, each with their own taunts that make it more hilarious. The graphics are colorful and the music goes pretty well with the look of the game.
The only thing I have to complain about doesn't necessarily have to do with any fault of the game, but the 4 player split screen mode can be a bit hard to follow. It's all good once you get used to it, but some of my friends had a hard time adjusting. Also the arena fighting mode is a bit slow paced.
Overall I highly recommend this game if you like kart racers or are a fan of episode 1. The tracks are very well designed and the prospect of unlocking secret racers and such keeps me interested.

I bought this game because I am a fan of Star Wars, and I love multi-player racing games. This game does not have the features required to stay entertaining long enough. Sure it would be a great rental, something different to enjoy for an evening, but afterwards it becomes monotonous.
There really isn't anything to work up to while playing this game. Basically, the tracks do not add enough entertainment, and power-ups become nearly pointless in this game. I truly think the animations and the look of the game is great! Still, it is too simplistic of a game concept without an innovative racing system to catch my interest long enough. I happened to enjoy Star Wars Podracing for the Nintendo-64 a lot better.
I should've known better not to buy this just because it was a Star Wars games. I guess Star Wars games can be poor too. Game features seemed to be cut too short to even captivate interest long enough.
Pros: Simple to understand
Great graphics
Neat adaption of Star Wars character design
Cons: Not fun for long
Way too generic
I'd rather play Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Double Dash, or even Star Wars Podracing before this game.
Great to try and play for a while. Boring to play for long.
