MY personal review

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 1

This game is actually really fun when it comes down to it. I am a 13 year old tennis fanactic so maybe there is a little biased. THe game has good timing and an excellenct choice of players. Including agassi, sampras, kournikova, and seles. I would have to say sega sports tennis 2k2 is a better game but if you are looking for another game that is simlar to 2k2 and almost as good i strongly recommend this game IF sega sprots tennis 2k2 is bought first.

tennis score: 30-love this game

I'm 33 years old and when you get myself and 3 of my friends together to play doubles, 5 hours later -we take a break! This game is great as a one player game, but plug in the 4-way and you'll have blisters because you can't put it down. The graphics and play are both good. This is the only review I have ever written and highly reccommend it. If you like to play tennis on the court or on the PS2 -you should have this game.

Buy Sega Sports Tennis instead !

Spent my money on this game and...well...it's not fun.
It's more difficult than Sega Sports Tennis to master and if you're not at the right place at the right time, you miss the ball.
Gets frustrating. The graphics leave a LOT to be desired and there are not many options for screen (video/audio/display) controls.
You CANNOT create your own players. Characters are VERY slow to react/move.
Sorry Namco...you blew it! I would like my money back please.

SEGA did a wonderful job on SEGA SPORTS TENNIS...I'd recommend that one instead.

Almost Real

I thought this game might be boring or tedious to learn and play, but I was wrong! I have never played a tennis computer game before, although I have played tennis. The timing seems very real and it's nice to have several female players to choose from (male players are available to choose from, too) so I can relate to the characters & really get into the game. It's a little tricky to get used to playing tennis with a controller, but I can't wait to play Smash Court Tennis some more so that I can master the controls and win some games! This game reminds me of real tennis so much, I've almost been inspired to go out and play tennis outside! ;-)

Why is everyone so frustated with this game??!!

Man, this game's awesome. The best tennis game I've played in my life (yes, better than virtua tennis). This game is not that hard. I've unlocked 2 players and won 2 grand slams. AND I've only had it for a week. People say this game is way too hard but I totally disagree. First (I think unlike most gamers) I read the manual. It tells you EXACTLY what buttons to press if you want the ball to land where ever you want it to. This game has also got mad graphics and music. I suggest you read the manual first if you don't want to get frustated with the game.

Over-rated Game

This game was anticiated by Tennis fans greatly, but instead we get another "wanna-be" tennis game. The graphics are average, the sound is average, the gameplay is below average, and the whole game comes across as boring and too one-demensional. There is nothing new in this Tennis game. Small selection of Players, no Real Long Tournament, no Grand Slams, you cannot create your own player, very limited animation while hitting the ball. This is just another arcade Tennis game, like Sega Sports Tennis2k2, but not nearly as good. I found this game very dissappointing after minutes in playing it. I would not waste your Money on this game at all. Get Tennis2k2, and Match Point Tennis coming out by Xicat in late 2002, and US Open Tennis 2002 coming out in Dec 2002!

Great fun game with one major flaw

This game is well designed and I particularly enjoy all the options available in the exhitbition mode where you can play 1, three or five sets with 2, 3 or 6 games per set. I like the variety in the surfaces and the realistic designs of the players (although in real life Agassi's main weapon is his FOREHAND and Kafelnikov's is his BACKHAND the game has it reversed). Little touches like Agassi bowing to all four corners after he wins and Sampras swinging his racquet lightly while waiting to receive or knocking sweat off his brow after a big point are cute and very true to form. It's also a ton of fun to play it in doubles with a buddy. However in the hard levels the computer players constant blast back return aces that are unrealistic. As the server you have to guess where the return is going to go and that is a little too much. And the serves are much less effective as the player than the computer's are. In real life a good returner can get himself into a point and even ahead off a second serve but rarely should someone be on defense after hitting a 120 mile an hour serve. I would hope with the next game they correct this to make the returns a little less effetive.

Only 4 of each

i like the game a lot. But there is only 4 of each. I am wondering why don't they have the Williams on here. Where was the last time u saw Anna Ko. at the top ? i can understand davenport, hinigs, and seles but they could have put in at least a william.

Fair game with some flaws

Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament is a fair game.

On the plus side, the tournament venues look good and the game controls are fairly simple to use. You can also choose from some of the top names on the tour (though there only 8 to choose from) and two player mode is fairly enjoyable.

The minuses of this game are the character graphics which are a little blocky and there are only 4 tournaments to choose from; but the biggest minus is the computer controlled opponents in tournament mode. When you get to the semis or finals, the opponent is virtually unbeatable. I've played as Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi numerous times and have never hit an ace along with hitting serves wide and up the middle at 120+ MPH and having them consistently hit back for clean winners. Along with not being realistic, it is very frustrating.

I'd suggest waiting for Sega Sports Tennis (aka Tennis 2K2).

Best tennis game ive played

The multi player in this game i think is the best part. The tournement modes arnt very rewarding but setting up a single match is fun. I dont think this game will be one that your playing day in and day out but its great for those times when you only have 20 or 30 minutes of spare time to kill. very realistic movement by the players. Sure beats all of the tennis games in the past.
