give it a chance

When I first tried the game, I was a little let down, because it almost seemed like there was no where to go...

Later on, I picked it back up and had my girlfriend join in. We spent about 3-6 hours on each mission, and finally made it through the other day.

I think it was one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played, and for the first time was a game that TRUELY challanged me. I have never spent so much time figuring out very small parts of a game before. Some parts seem like they are impossible, and sometimes it seems like you have tried everything, but trust me, you haven't.

So now that it is finished, my girlfriend and I are trying to find another multiplayer game we can get into like this one. Any suggestions? Anyone know about a sequel?

Anyway, I am not going to go into detail about the game itself, because you can figure that out... Just know it is a real challenge with great levels and puzzles.

Strongest points:

* Great gameplay... This game is a real challange, and the missions are very fun to go through. Once you get into the groove of the game, you can't stop

* Different character abilities... Working with a team of people instead of a single character is great. Each character has a different skill, and can be used for different situations.

* Multiplayer mode... Best multiplayer game I've played. Some parts would probably be a lot harder without two players. It was fun to go through the whole game with a partner.

* Cool toys... The game has really neat toys to play with, like the rover (a little rc car) for going into tight spaces, and a flying cam to go into even tighter places, and a centry gun which is awesome.

Reasons it didn't get 5 stars:

* [disappointing] story line... I felt no real connection to the stories or the characters... it was all about gameplay in this one. [disapppointing] movies between missions, and the ending was one of the worst ever

* little on the glitchy side... there were a few too many glitches in this game. In a few spots it actually froze up on me, so I recommend saving often. There are other spots where the characters get "trapped"

* too hard... there are some parts of the game that are so hard to figure out, it is rediculous. We spent 3 hours on one part only to figure out we somehow did half of the level backwards, and needed to go back to get to the end. Some buttons or switches are so hard to see or notice that you will be looking around for a week before you notice them.

Great Game

I noticed that this game doesn't have much for reviews, but I rented Project Eden for five days and I must say that this was one of the most fun games I've played. Many games these days don't have enough challenge to them and not enough thinking, but Project Eden is a great game for those gamers that love to think and get past those difficult parts. The neat thing about Project Eden is that it allows you to use four different guys. And you can't get past most of the puzzles without using at least 2 or three of your guys. I say this is a excellent game and if you're looking for a game that will get your wheels turning, buy this one, it will keep you playing for a while!

A Challenging Game!!!

I love this game. After a while, it becomes addictive. It has a bunch of levels, each of which is so challenging, I couldn't complete any of them without taking a peak at the guide (which by the way, you should purchase if you ever want to complete this game). Nor is this game just for kids! I'm in my 30's and am finding it fun. I'm still not finished with the third level and have been playing it every day for about 3 weeks!

Some drawbacks are: it's a little bit difficult fighting in battles with so many characters to control. Although you can easily switch between them, the battles are real-time, so you have little opportunity to. Eventually, I decided to use just one character per battle to fight with (the other characters will automatically fight with you). Don't buy this game if you just want a game to vent off steam by killing or blowing up things... This game's main attraction is the difficult puzzles to solve. You must solve each one before you can progress any further. All the fighting is secondary to these.

The puzzles are so hard, in fact, I sometimes wish the developers provided more clues as to how to go about solving them. Instead, they have left you pretty much in the dark. But, just when you're about to give up, you often get a sudden flash of insight (if not, you can look at the guide) and can then proceed to the next level. Altogether, an enjoyable game, even with all its drawbacks!!!

Intense Action

This is definitely a good game-- not the best that I have ever played but it certainly has a lot of action and lots of weapons to choose from. It's tough to make it through the levels, but once you get far enough, the enemies and weapons get better and better. A word of caution: if you don't have patience and skill at shooting, this is probably not a game for you.

I'm sorry, you said WHAT?

We like puzzle games, problem solving games, multi-player games. This looked sooo promising. And then it hung. And hung. And hung again.

The advice we have received from the company is in essence "It's not our fault. You'll have to start over from the beginning of the game, or skip levels using cheat codes".

How'd this get past quality control? Maybe they just never play-tested it...

Great Concept, poor execution

When I first started this game, I found it to be quite enjoyable, although there was one thing I found to be somewhat irritating. First off, since some problems can only be overcome by certain characters, they are practically immortal, respawning at set up points throughout the level. This removed all the challenge from the shooter aspect of the game, since you can't lose. Still, however, I found this game to be enjoyable.

Then I got to the third level. I understand (from the other reviews) that there is a "game save bug", which many people encountered at some point in the game. I found it at the end of level three. I would get to a certain point and, at about exactly the same place, it would freeze. I tried it six times, and even after cleaning the disc, it still froze at that spot. I've looked at the reviews to see what they had to say about it, which was restart. I have two words for that suggestion: heck no! As far as I know, it could freeze again on me in the tenth level, and I'm sick of the freezing already.

If you can put up with the grevious error which Edios left in their game, then have fun. Otherwise, leave this game for someone else to buy.

Much better than I expected

I purchased Project Eden because I, along with a couple of friends, was looking for a good multi-tap compatible game. When we hooked it up to the multi-tap, we found that only the Dual Shock 2 controller will work with the game, and none of the PS One Dual Shock or earlier controllers would work at all. Since I was the only one who had a Dual Shock 2 controller at the time, and no one else could play, I was a little disappointed.

The next day I decided to give the single player game a shot on my own, and I'm glad I did. I am also a fan of the Space Hulk game from the 32-bit console days, because of the team control aspect. This game offers that same type of gameplay, but in an even more enjoyable way. The ability to control 4 different characters on a team, each with specific skills needed for certain tasks, is definitely fun. The control does take a bit to get used to, but after playing awhile, it works fine. Not great, but fine.

The graphics are pretty good, but obviously not the best the PS2 has to offer. They more than get the job done for the game though, and they do look nice. I ran into a little bit of lag and slowdown when going through some of the larger areas (something I haven't seen much of since the days of Super Nintendo), but overall, things ran smoothly.

This is definitely not an intense action game. It's more like a puzzle game with a few minor combat sequences. The puzzles range from very easy, to challenging.

Overall, a good game to play. My only complaint is that without all Dual Shock 2 controllers, you can't get multiplayer to work. Of course, getting newer controllers, or talking your friends into upgrading to Dual Shock 2 from Dual Shock 1 will remedy that issue. If you're looking for a way to get lost in another world and if you enjoy puzzle games with nice 3D graphics, give Project Eden a shot. It's worth the time.

Project Eden's a great game. The puzzles are much more fun than the mindless switch pulling of the series tomb raider (eidos' series that is long overdue for retirement) If you like puzzles, action, and adventure this is definatly the game to buy.

This is an outstanding game...if you haven't played it, don't rate it, since you have no viable opinion of it.

It has a major achilles heel. (a game save bug)

Overall, the game is fairly fun. Most puzzles can be solved with brute force hand/eye coordination or by coming up with clever solutions. I really liked the game at first because it did not have any tedious puzzles, but I found one truly horrific little puzzle on the "ground zero" level of the game that brains couldn't circumvent. It kind of ruined the game for me because it downgraded the game in my eyes, but so far those types of puzzles have been the exception and not the rule.

The major problem is that you better be willing to play the game at least one full act or more at a time (which is quite time consuming and makes the game tedious). The reason is that this game has a game save bug that pretty much forces you play an entire act at a time, while saving after entering each new level. If you research this game on the net, you'll find several confirmations of my diagnosis.

Overall, the game save bug and the fact that the puzzles are becoming less cerebral and more tedious as the game goes on, has lowered the rating of an otherwise excellent game in my eyes.
