I tried really hard to like this game.

Ever since Tenchu came out on the px1 I have been totally hooked on the quest based beat them up. Games like Tekken are great but I just found myself wanting more. With Tenchu I found it. A series of connected missions playing a kick NInja or Ninjaette with next costumes and other goodies to unlock.
Then came Tenchu 2 and Onimusha which I just think is amazing. They had me hooked for hours.

So when I saw Godai I was totally excited. Until Tenchu 3 arrives I thought here was a game that I could sink my stars into. Slice and dice Teri-yaki style.

But after an initial opening movie that was kind of interesting and some great inspiraing music I found the game had little to offer. Not surprising when you see who made it 3DO.

The game play is lacking, the graphics are not up to ps2 standard, the combat gets repetative and very little new happens. Which is such a shame as these games are the very sort that get me hooked. I tried hard to like it. But it just is not of the quality it should be. I really don't know what 3DO's problem is but they are really falling behind on quality in their games.

Rent this game first before buying.

I tried to like this game but...

I really did try to enjoy this game but I just couldn't. While the graphics are ok at best that is the only thing I like about this game. While it has many different weapons they weaken and break when you use them and are forced to fight without them. The game play hardly ever changes. Each element has the same type of enemies only with a different element. The game is also too short. Save your money for another game that is worth buying. If you are looking for a good action game this is NOT it. A game that I would highly recommend would be Dynasty Warriors 3. If you are still interested in this game I recommended you rent it to be sure because I bought it and I am sorry I did.

Nothing good about this game!

If you want a basic idea of this game, think of everything that makes up a good game and what a game would be like if it had none of those aspects. That would be this game. The characters are the stupidest that I've ever seen and their dialogue must have been written by a Devry institute dropout. Yes, it's that bad. The story also sucks royally. Probably the worst thing about this game is the controls because they make no sense. The buttons are not custumoizable and game rarely responds to your commands. Its about as easy to control as sleigh pulled by hamsters. The graphics may not be that bad, but everything else about this game just really brings it down.

A Good old Action Game!

Ol' 3DO have made their best game yet!
Godai is strictly pure, solid action. It's a fantasy beat'em up where you find yourself forever outnumbered by legions of foes. If anyone has played the Psx games "Ninja" and "Jackie Chan Stuntmaster" they'll be familiar with this cool game
GoDai packs cool backgrounds, yet has litle character animation. Moreover, gamers will surely see that characters seem to float over the ground a bit. It's where it fails.
The sound is great, though, especially the soundtracks. There's lots of realistic sound effects, like blades clanging with each other, howling winds and splashing waters.
GoDai has good control. It's not wierd or hard like other people say.
As said before, GoDai is pure action. And it's proud of it!
GoDai doesn't have that much looks as the usual PS2 games, but if you're looking for some fun and love free-roaming beat'em-ups, buy this now. Don't consult mags, they'll turn you against it!

Here's why NOT to get it

Godai, Elemental Force is a joke. Don't buy this purely by what you see on the back of the case. Considering the other games that look much better and have alot more to them, this game is nowhere near what it could have or should have been. I don't know what type of storyline they were going for, but I can guarantee that the writers missed their mark, and if they didn't, they need to stop getting paid. The graphics and logic that govern your surroundings is the only thing good about Godai, but not enough to redeem the gameplay. If you are looking for a cheap PS2 game that's good, this is the game not to get.

Best I've Ever Played

This game is a real surprise (to the upside!). The graphics are incredible and the game play is awesome. There are all kinds of special weapons and moves that will make this fighting game one of the best of the season. I've played many fighting games before and have never been so impressed with the controls, graphics and frame rates. 3DO got it right with this game!

YEA!!! Take that ZELDA!!! HA!

Heck yea!!! 3DO did an incredible job with this game!!! I love it. Buy this! Buy this now! The game is simply unbelievable! The plot will keep you waiting for more and more! The graphics are just amazing! They should raise the price ...! Thats how much this game is worth! Come to think of it... this was the greatest game ever made. I nominate this and Timestalkers to the top games of the century. This game own! It really owns! GODAI! I worship this game! YES!!! I love it.

In [No] Joy and [All] Sorrow, I bought and played this game

What was I thinking!? I saw the add for this in Gamepro Magazine and it looked great: nice graphics, awesome weaponry, stunning manueverability- not even close to likely. I'm guessing that the game that I saw in the add was another 3DO game with "Godai" stamped above it. Because- this game sucked. The graphics must have been where most, let alone, probably all of the budget went, because that was the only thing worth getting this game for. The movement- really dumb: strafe instead of turning (most of the time), and slow running. The weaponry LOOKED cool (notice how I say that. The weapons were great looking, but usually broke to bits (literally) after about one and a half enemies. So, your hands are the only real weapons. Oh, and speaking of enemies- tough. I could never beat the 1st boss without the invincibility cheat. Most guys took about 20 punches to just get em stunned. And as already said, they could drain almost all the power out of one sword.

So, to go ahead and end this, I'll tell you all that I wish I would have listened to Gamepro when they gave this game a 1.5 out of 5.0 overall.

So- please don't buy this game, if you want, I'll give you the money myself. I'm honestly suprised that Gamestop bought it from me, and didn't just laugh in my face. Have a good day.

Godai no fun

I initially bought this game because it had to things that I liked: Ninjas and the ability to control the elements. Once I started playing I found that the game was lacking in several areas.

First the camera, you can't control the view at all and so if you get into any of the platforming areas, you're pretty much blind because you can't see all the options available to you. You'll see one platform in front of you but not the ones to your left and right.

Next is the control. While the combos are pretty cool, you can't change your direction of attack once you start it so if you miss, you're screwed.

The weapons do degrade as you use them so it adds a touch of realism so at least there was some effort.
The voices for the characters suck...a lot. Think of a bad voiced-over martial arts movie and take it down another notch and you'll have Godai. The story's pretty solid though. I would definitly recommend renting it before buying.
