If it were possible to choose zero stars, I would have rate it. This game is a complete fraud. First, it is not a trophy game. Everything that happens in the game is being chased by wild animals. The point of the game is to avoid getting killed, but it is hard to see what attacks you. This is not a hunting game, its a surviving game. All you get is a hand pistol, a machete, and a small knife. Can you imagine having to kill an elephant with a dart using a bamboo stick. That is ridiculous! I am very disapointed. You are never going to hunt for animals, so don't waste your tinme and money on this game.

I cannot even begin to describe how disappointed I was with this game. The first Dangerous Hunts game was a blast to play. It was just like real hunting, with the added thrill of having to deal with wild animals that attack.

But this game is horrendous. It is an adventure style game where you follow around an amazingly annoying one eyed man who tells you what to do and doesnt bother to help you at all. Moreover, his vocabulary is limited to two or three dumb remarks.

You cannot hunt in the traditional sense. You cannot do anything except the stupid little tasks that the one eyed guide wants you to do.

This is NOT a true hunting game. Stay away and don't waste your money on this piece of crap. Get the original Dangerous Hunts game, instead.

This game is absolutely nothing like the original, with the exception that you are in a wilderness with a weapon.

If you enjoyed the original, and liked tracking, spotting and taking the best game animal, there is none of that. This game plays more like a "Tomb Raider" game, you have to watch for things to pick up, like ammo, or find your way through puzzle/maze style environments. You have "missions" you need to accomplish, and only after these are completed can you choose to "hunt". After completing the first task, I choose to hunt in the area. I was allowed to choose between a machete, a handgun and a double-barrel shotgun to hunt for a whitetail deer. As soon as I found the deer and shot it with the handgun, I was attacked by a "mad grizzly", and had to "survive the mad grizzly attack". After I shot him, the game moved on, you don't even get to claim your trophy.

There is no store feature, you have to find items scattered throughout the environments. There also seems to be no shot specific hits when you shoot the animals as they attack you. For example, a certain animal may require to be shot 3 times, regardless of the fact that it is so close all shots are straight down through the top of the head. Along with having to keep an eye out for useful items, you also have to keep an eye out for hidden dangers in the environment, such as bear traps or bee hives, which cause injury, but are mostly just incredibly annoying.

This is a game I was really looking forward to after loving the first one, but I doubt I will even bother to finish it. I would certainly give it less stars if I could.

I have to say I skipped over DH 1 and went for 2, but it now looks like I may have missed out on something. First, what I like about this game is that it is a major improvement over Big Game Hunter, at least graphically. The graphics are just amazing to me. It's the first game that's ever actually scared me a little. The story is pretty cool, too. It's more of an adventure game than a hunting game, and I think that throws people for a loop. The problem with this game lies therein. First, the adventure/missions are great and go all over the world, encountering animals I would never want to see that close in real life. But, the adventure is way too short! Here I am having fun wondering what's going to be next after I kill this beast in the snowy terrain of Russia, then the game ends! What a disappointment. Also, the hunting interface, even though it does exist, is extrememly limited. You don't have very many options at all, and you can only hunt what the game tells you to hunt. Plus, there's only three or four hunting opportunities verses the ten or so adventure missions. I did say the graphics were good, but it looks like they didn't put much thought into the guns. The guns do look like real guns, but there's no major detail as to what type of gun they may be. Even as bad as the graphics were on Big Game Hunter, at least they made the guns worthwhile. Not in this game, though. Sounds like I'll have to backtrack to DH 1 and see what I missed out on because it's supposedly much better than this horrid sequel.

If you liked the first dangerous hunts, or any hunting games period, you will not like this game. there is 3 weapons you use through the whole game, a knife, a pistal, and a shotgun and some times a trank gun. You do not hunt at all. there is no free rome, only followed paths. this is a story game, not a hunting game. there is no options to choose any weapons through any of the game and no option to choose an animal or location to hunt. there really is no hunting in this game accept after about every 6 check points you get to hunt 1 deer and no other animals. I think this game is worth $5 tops, and definately not $30. I really do feel ripped off
Don't buy this game, you will regret it.

Not a follow-on to Dangerous Hunts!

I loved the original Dangerous Hunts game. Not only is that a great game, but you can keep going back to it after you have "finished" it and choose from the many different hunts and still have fun.

The D.H.2 is really just a role playing game. You don't choose your next adventure, or your weapons, etc. - you are just given a weapon and mission (there is not a lot of realism either). The few "hunts" in there, are so lacking (compared to the original) that you would not want to go back and do them over. It's also a really short game.

The most important thing for a potential buyer to know about this game is that THIS IS NOT a hunting game. It's more of an arcade shooter; the vast majority of the game consists of missions in which you are given a weapon (no choice of weapon, you get no other items), and animals are essentially paraded past you for potshots. We're talking very low difficulty here, folks. The missions are strung together via a feeble attempt at a "story mode", which includes some horribly executed puzzle/rescue aspects. The missions are poorly executed; while the "hunting" portions are unbelievably easy, the puzzle/rescue portions can be extremely frustrating. In addition, the depictions of the supporting characters in the story line could be described as racist. The game also features an even worse attempt at actual "hunting": once an area is freed up by completing a set of missions, you can "free hunt" in that area.
HOWEVER - hunting in Dangerous Hunts 2 is very unlike previous Cabela's hunting games. You no longer have options regarding equipment other than a very limited choice of weapons. Picking between a wide variety of rifles, shotguns, pistols, or bows? Nope. Choice of ammunition for firearms? Negative. Choosing calls, lures, decoys, stands, or other equipment? Gone. Picking out optimum camouflage? Not anymore. Sighting in your weapon? No way. For some unfathomable reason, Cabela's decided that these features should no longer be present in this sequel. Stealth, important in real-life hunts, and in good hunting simulators, is a non-issue here. Overall, this game fails miserably. Dangerous Hunts 2 has only 2 redeeming values - compared to previous Cabela's titles, the graphics are much better, and the game itself isn't glitchy (glitchiness heretofore being a hallmark of Cabela's games). However, great graphics and non-glitchy behavior cannot compensate for the atrocious game play. Trust me on this - if you must try this game, rent before you buy.

By the way: If you're looking for a decent hunting game for the PS2, try the first Dangerous Hunts, or one of the Big Game Hunter or Outdoor Adventure titles. I personally recommend the first Dangerous Hunts. All of the features I described above as being missing from Dangerous Hunts 2 are present in its predecessor. It was a hunting simulator - you needed to combine stealth with the right combination of equipment to get your kill.

As the other reviewers pointed out, this game is a complete fraud and resembles little of anything from previous games in the Cabela's series. There is a strict storyline that the player must follow and there is no store for you to upgrade equipment. You run around the forest trying to avoid stepping in traps every five seconds and being attacked by crazy wild animals about every seven. There is absolutely no realism to this hunting game at all. A complete waste of $30.00, I took the game out of my system within the first half hour of playing it and it is being sold to EB Games for whatever I can get for it. Activision is such a hit or miss game developer. Every now and then they will come out with a great game, but more often than not, Activision serves to disappoint. Once again, Activision, you have produced complete garbage.

What a terrible follow up to part 1

I got this thinking it was in the same arena as the 1st dangerous hunts. My little boy plays it all the time and can pick whatever animal and weapons he wants.

This thing is just a "walk through" where you cannot customize anything, and you hunt what they give you...just terrible.

Like most other games, you start off in "training" then move your way up...just terrible and boring.

Somewhat fun... if you weren't looking for a hunting game.

I've played many of Cabela's hunting games, including the first Dangerous Hunts, and enjoyed all of them. When I bought this game, I assumed it would be in the same vien as the previous one. I was highly disappointed. The first, biggest problem with this game is that it is NOT a hunting game. Instead, it's more like an adventure/first person shooter game with a highly unrealistic storyline. Instead of being attacked by aliens or zombies, you are attacked left and right by wild animals. Do pumas and tigers hunt in packs in the wild? No, but you'll be attacked by two or three at a time during this game. There is no sense of actually hunting anything - instead, you follow paths (sometimes with a guide), while animals rush at you everytime you reach a checkpoint. About once every half an hour of game time, you get the option to break from the story to do an actual "hunt." There are only three of these hunts in total, each of them a variety of deer, and each one lasts about five minutes or less. You only get to choose one piece of equipment (your weapon) during these hunts, and for the storyline of the game, you don't get to choose what you have at all. There are tree stumps you can destroy to open bonus levels, but in order to get more than the first bonus level, you have to wander off the path and search the entire map. The problem with this? There are traps, snakes and bees everywhere if you wander from the path, and if you are with a guide they will constantly bother you to come back to them, and sometimes even get attacked while you are away (you loose if they die).

There is nothing in the description of the game warns you that this is what you'll be in for. I looked at it after playing the game all the way through, and there were still no hints that it would be anything other than a hunting game with more features than the last. While I have to admit that I found this game to be enjoyable for an afternoon diversion, it was not at all what I was looking for when I purchased it, nor do I find what little enjoyment I got from it to be worth the price of this game, even used. I finished it in only about four hours, and I'm far from being a video game master shot. I hoped that once finishing the storyline, you might be able to hunt in these terrains freely, but instead you can only do the missions and the three deer hunts over again. Don't waste your money on this. If the idea of taking some easy blasts at rabid animals appeals to you, borrow this game from a friend, but I wouldn't make any stronger effort to play it.
