Man, I miss X-WING!

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 4

This game makes me miss X-Wing Fighter from the old days. Why? Because they knew how to make a good space fighter game. BSG isn't all that bad. Some missions are fun but others are stress-inducing and no fun at all. I think some game-designers like the ones who designed this game confuse difficult and challenging with idiotically impossible and nerve-wracking. The missions are long and you can't save until you've beaten them. One mission you fly as a cylon and you do just that: fly for 10 minutes or something while your slow-*ss co-pilot scans for something. This takes for-freakin'-ever!!!! And if you get wiped out in the following ridiculously hard part afterwards, you start all over again. What muppet designed that mission?!?

Another problem is things happen too quickly such as the Galactica getting bombarded (and blowing up WAY too quick in my opinion) or your useless wingman getting trounced. You're often running around tryng to figure out what's happening and many times you can't see anything.

You rarely have time to enjoy a good ole fashion dogfight with the cylons (which is fun when you get the chance). The targeting system really blows! The other NPCs nag you to death telling you to Do this and Do that! You think you're doing a good job when you've shot down a bunch of cylons, bombers, or troop ships and then suddenly the mission ends because you missed one that takes out the Galactica or your whiny NPC wingman.

On the plus side, hull and missiles replenish themselves. Overall certain elements of it are fun and I love BSG the old series and new so I had to have it. I'm just glad I only paid $15 bucks for it. I would like to see another BSG project but with a different crew who know how to make games challenging but still fun and rewarding.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I have been a big BSG fan since the 70's and I love the new series, but this game totally blows! It is too hard to play. I got through the first mission pretty easy, but as the missions progress they get harder and harder. After playing the level where you have to fly in the Cylon formation for what seems like forever and then getting killed over and over and over and over again, I finally gave up and sold this horrible game! I will never buy another game from this company until I read the reviews and then I will try to buy it as cheap as possible.

Very Difficult To Control

I was not pleased with this game. Although I am a major fan of the both the original and remade Battlestar Galactica this game was very difficult to control and track the cylons right from mission 1. Unless you are already an ace at working the controllers and have every button's location memorized like your hand, you'll spend most of your time trying to even find a cylon (even though they are all over you and the Galactica). Part two of mission 1 is almost impossible to beat and you have to start the game over from the very start every time. Stick with just the TV shows.

Very Rewarding Game

Just picked this up yesterday and I'm already hooked.

Yes it's a bit on the hard side (especially the second mission) but the gameplay in the following levels really makes it worth getting there.

Some great graphics and awesome sound

A Great Game

I bought this one yesterday and I'm hooked.

The first couple of missions are a bit hard and take some getting used to, but the following missions make the hard work worth it, who wants a game that only last five minutes anyway.

Some great graphics and awesome sound and speech.

Hey if your a quiter then you do not want this game, if you like a challenge this is right up your alley. I love it. My only complaint is I wanted to get a good look at the raiders as I was shooting them and the game is so fast you don't often get a good look. But overall I am on level 10 and have had a great time !!

Great Graphics, Story line and game play - BUT NOT EASY

This game has been lots of fun for me. I have loved the Viper space fighter since the '70s (yes, I am probably really old compared to some of you gamers out there) and its been great to get to pilot one. The graphics are fantastic and I like that most of the feel of the game and the story line is drawn from the original series but that it gives several nods and has drawn many good elements from the new one as well. I love both shows... and this is a great blend of the two. Some of the levels are difficult to the point of frustration however. Back in the old PC days I had quickly mastered every level of X-Wing and its sequels, and there are many, many similarities to this game, but still find some of the levels to be more aggravating then fun. Especially the one where you have to perfectly follow the Cylon formation for what feels like hours.... Unless you are very good at these kinds of games I highly recommend taking advantage of the "Starbuck and Apollo as wingmen" option, the codes to do so are readily available on any of the many PS2 and game-player websites, such as Gamespot. The first mission is also one of the very, very hard ones and without their help many people might give up on this game before even getting out of the gate. You really don't have to let them do everything for you, but its good to know they are there!

Not exactly?!?

If you played "Wing Commander" in the 90's you'll have a pretty good idea of the quality of this game. Play control is very generic. Sound is okay. Story is thin. I enjoyed it because I like the BSG series and enjoy blowing away a few "Toasters." My biggest complaint about this game is how dark everything is. And, no, it's not an issue with the contrast on my TV. The darkness and fast game play make it difficult to enjoy the Cylon ships, the Vipers and Battlestars. Would I buy it again? Yea. Sure. It was fun. Would I buy it for someone else? No.
