Namco delivers another quality classic

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 59 / 61

Namco is well known for releasing quality software and this is no exception. This game was delayed numerous times until Namco felt that it met or exceeded the expectations of today's gamers. The result: one of this year's best platform games and a fitting tribute to probably THE most recognized character in video game history. Included is the original Pac-Man classic, a 3-D maze mode (ala Pac-Mania), and a new Quest (adventure) mode. The Quest mode has Pac-Man taking a romp in a colorful and well-designed 3-D world. This is polished platform gaming at its finest. Pac-Man has numerous capabilities to help him solve some very clever little puzzles throughout the 20+ levels. Control is tight and responsive. The music and sound effects are also well done. Had Pac-Man World contained only the Quest mode, it would have been a worthy purchase. But add in the classic and 3-D maze modes as well and you have a ton of replay value in your hands. Highly recommended, especially to those of you who have young children. Also, Pac-Man World is sure to appeal to girlfriends or wives who otherwise wouldn't be caught dead playing a video game.

Pac-Man World...Out of this Universe!

I read the reviews of others here at Amazon.com in regards to this game before deciding to buy it. They were very helpful to me but I must admit to having a love for Pac-Man well before reading any one review.

What makes this game so outstanding is the animation which is on par with the Pac-Man cartoon that I got a kick out of years ago. Some of you reading this review and others will wonder "yeh, but is it worth the price tag?" I can tell you without a doubt it is. There are many games priced far and above their actual quality but Pac-Man World is every bit worth its price and then some.

Besides the graphics, the gameplay is fantastic, challenging (without being too hard) and all out FUN. Pac-Man swims, gobbles, butt bounces (a must see)and the Sonic-like rev run can't be beat. The ghosts are all there with some new baddies...but beware, even seemingly innocent fish can prove deadly too.

The music? In a word, spectacular! It took me back to the fun of the Pac-Man cartoons and the music that plays when you run the credits is hot enough to do aerobic exercise to... I kid you not!

I just started playing the game this morning but out of all the games I've purchased: Frogger, Asteroids, Dead or Alive, MK4 and Need for Speed... I can definitively say Pac-Man world is the most fun I have had out of them all.

This is one of the best games I have played in a while. I will admit that I am not into all of those massive role playing games, Like Syphon Filter and Metal Gear, but this is a throw back to the days of Super Mario Brothers and Sonic. And that's just the adventure part of the game. you also get the old classic arcade style pac-man, and an all new 3-d pac-man game played very much like the old arcade game, but with much better graphics(obviously). A fun game that everyone will enjoy!

as an avid renter, this was a must buy

excellent compliment to the original. don't let the cute littleyellow guy make you think this game is soft. it is the mostchallenging game i've played this year, with extra enemies, superior graphics, and mazes which along with the classic ghosts, power pellets and walking fruit, there are lasers, falling ceilings, and other projectiles to contend with. unless you grew up in a cave, this is a must own. END

My boyfriend and I own a Playstation and the majority of games that we own are fighting games. One week before Pac Man was released I had commented how much I missed playing Pac Man on the Atari I had growing up. I was extremely happy when Playstation released Pac Man. Not only does it have the Classic Arcade version, it has a 90s updated version of the mazes AND a quest to boot. Although I'm having trouble completing one level, I love the rest!

It just keeps getting better

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (well Japan Actually) there emerged a video game featuring a charector who was little more than a yellow mouth who's sole purpose in life was to travel around a maze gathering fruit, eating dots and avoiding ghosts, that yellow mouth was named Pac Man and he was the very first video game superstar (believe it or not! )he had his own bubble gum cards, his own brand of scratch card and even his own cartoon show in short he had it all, but then times changed and he became just a fond memory somebody you think about and smile. But now 20 years after his conception, he is back in three dimensions, out of the maze and with legs! Pac Man world is a game that has something for everyone, it's a platform game, its a travel around 3D mazes game and with the inclussion of the original arcade classic it's retro fun for all the family. There is a story attached to the platform game, which does'nt make much sense and is irrelevent to your enjoyment of the game, all you need to know is that it is FUN, ADDICTIVE and the best playstation game I have bought in a long time. You should buy this game, you must buy this game in fact buy two copies in case one wears out! This is fun, this is addictive, this game has long lasting appeal, buy it, you won't be sorry!

A great game with a great hero

What a cool twist to an outdated arcade game! Namco has done it again. Don't let the little guy fool you, this game rules. And now it has a whole new plot!

You can experience the challenge of the original Pac-man in over thirty all-new *3-D* pac-mazes. But it's more than just eating dots and dodging ghosts. There are over twenty 3-D worlds for platform style gameplay. And this guy's got all-new moves. Now he also jumps, bounces, revs, and swims.

Feeling nostalgic? This game will suit you too. Chomp ghosts the old-fashioned way. The origninal Pac-Man game is included. (Yes, all the levels!) Overall, this is a great game with a great hero.

Great blast from the past!

I'm an old Pac-Man player from way back and really enjoyed this game. It's quite big with most levels taking quite some time to complete. There are also sub-games within the main game which help to keep you interested.

I'm not a really hard-core gamer, so I eventually got to a part of the game where I couldn't go any further because I kept dying. Fortunately my trusty Xplorer cheat cartridge came to the rescue and I was able to create some cheats to make me invincible (I know, that's cheating, but it was the only way I could complete the game).

Pac-Man World is highly recommended, even for those kids that never played the original; this game is _nothing_ like the original, it's all 3D!

I LOVE this game!

I was a huge fan of the original, though, let's face it, you can only work so many mazes before it gets old. This is a new and rather enjoyable update, though if you're very much into the original maze game, it's got that too. Pac-Man gets a great new treatment, complete with plot: it's his 20th anniversary, and everybody he cares about has been stolen! Don't you just hate when that happens? So it's up to Pac-Man (and you, of course), to brave various worlds and get all of your friends and family back from the evil clutches of Toc-Man, a delusional metallic monster who thinks himself the "real" Pac-Man. Each area has a theme: pirates, ruins, space, funhouse, factory, and mansion. Each level has mini mazes and larger three-dimensional mazes. I haven't finished it yet, as the structure of the game play becomes more difficult as you progress, and I'm still working my way through some of them. The upside is that the game opens up more than one area at a time, so when you get frustrated with one area, you can go play somewhere else for a while. The other great thing is that every time you unlock and complete a 3-d level maze, it opens another maze in the maze mode, and enables you to complete the 36 maze marathon. Sounds complicated, but is actually quite simple. If you liked the original Pac-Man, and you're okay with change, you'll really enjoy this.

Very fun, but kind of short

This game was a lot of fun! The graphics were cool, the controls were tight, the camera didn't misbehave much and it was an overall joy to play. My only complaint, and the reason for the 4 stars, is that it was just too short. With only 15 levels and 6 bosses I beat the whole game in one weekend,(10-12 hours) so I'm not sure it's worth recommending a purchase. However if you're a huge Pac fan, or you're a little less experienced with these platformer type games then I think you'll find a highly enjoyable game for a reasonable price.

Dan
