By far the best game I have ever played...EVER! I am an adult gamer who prides himself on his vast video game collection. This game lacks nothing! The graphics are the best that have ever been put on a playstation disk. The plot is out of this world to begin with, then as the game goes on and you find out about your origins and how you became who you are(or were), what has become of your clan, and your brothers, what can I say...the plot was genius! The cinamatics were amazing! The control I thought was superb(although some have argued that point) once you get used to them. The voices were amazing. I was so enthused with this game that I could hardly sleep for wanting to see what would happen next. It posed definate challenge and incredible action. I can not say enough about this game. The extreme violence of the death scenes, I have to admitt even creeped me out at first. This game is easily the most evil, yet engulfing game ever created for the playstation. The only disappointment was the ending. Yet the more I think about it, the more I want the sequel. I can't wait for the sequel! This game is a 10. But definately NOT FOR KIDS. I would rate it for a 17+ audience.
Outstanding gothic drama, but not quite perfect

This is one of the most engaging and frustrating games of all time. It takes the lush, evocative adventure engine of Eidos' Tomb Raider series, and pours it into an entirely new mold - one filled with foreboding shadows, haunting cries, delerious nightmare dreamscapes, and sinister abandon. If you're into vampires, this is your magnum opus. The graphics are incredible, the control is clean, the plot is elaborate and compelling, and the "two worlds" duality is ingenious. This game is amazing! The problems are few, but major - (1) Although somewhat free-wheeling, the game is still quite linear, and it's not always clear what to do next. Expect to spend a lot of time wandering, marvelling at the gothic beauty around you. (2) The game craps out in the middle of the story! What a blatant "buy the sequel" sell-out. I was horribly disappointed, but admittedly, I'll be first in line when Kain III comes out. :)
BEST GAME ON PLAYSTATION!!!!!

This game, hands down, is the greatest game on the Playstation in my opinion. The game has a great story that keeps you wanting to play. I must admit though that I did need a stratigie guide for this game because I'm not a pro gamer and I don't like puzzling my brain for hours on what to do, what can I say I'm a cheater, I admit it. That aside, this game is difficult, but even if you do need a stratigie guide it's still a great game. Even the voice acting is good which is very rare for video games. All the power ups and possible weapons are great! This isn't just hurt the enemie until he is dead, you actually need to find a way to kill them, and seeing that they are vampires you could throw them in fire or water or impale them with a spear or throw them on spikes on the wall! The choises are endless. The camera angles are even good which is very, very rare for a 3D platform game. The only thing I didn't like is all the puzzles and the ending fell short leaving it open for a sequel but that wasn't enough to take it down a star. So after all that my bottom line is Get This Game!!
The greatest adventure game on Playstation

This game is one of my favorites in my collection. The graphics are great, the scenery beautiful, great voice acting(which is rare in a video game) and character animation is very fluid. The only cons I have are sometimes the camera angles are awkward and sometimes you can get lost and not know what to do next. Aside from that this is a really great game.
not your average game

This game is my favorite video game of all time. I hardly ever play video games any more but this one still stands out. The story is great. Story is something most video games are SEVERELY lacking. The rest of it is great as well. This game has almost no side areas but for me that makes the first time through even more enjoyable. It's ashamed they don't make this anymore.
One of my all time favorite games.

Before I start, I must admit, I like violence, I like vampires, I like games with many ways to solve problems, I like games that make you think, and I LOVE action games. So obviously I am quite biased to give this game a good review. But also, even if it were not for all the above listed things, I would still give this game 5 stars.
The storyline is intense, even if the gameplay isn't appealing to you, I bet you will play for a while, just to find out what Happens next. 10/10
Gameplay, camera angles at some times can be annoying, but not enough so that they interfere with play. The controls are great, you can just do so much. If you want to kill a vampire, you don't have to just beat him to death. Bludgeon him till he s dazed, (you can hit him with just about anything,) now for the kill, if wielding a staff, halber, spear, or even a pipe, you can impale them, very cool, if armed with a torch, ignite them, if you have the reaver, then you get to stab them with it, they shatter, and there soul is free for the taking. Awesome! If you dont have any weapon, or nothing to impale or ignite, then you may pick them up and throw them into spikes, on the wall, a campfire or in the water. 9.5/10
Sound: Great voice acting, every voice fits the character perfect. Torches sizzle, vampires howl and scream, spider legs click on the ground, did anyone else notice that cool scream sound the reaver makes in the spectral realm. 10/10
graphics: for its day and age are great. The cinematics absolutely rule. There are some glitchs, like seeing through doors when your to close, or through a hole, when you push a block in. But its tolerable. 7/10
overall: 9.12. great buy, if you have any interest in violence, vampires or soul sucking, than buy it now!
great game

In the beginning this game might seem like an action game with alot of blood and gore but after a while you figure out that this is one of the hardest strategy/puzzle games ever. Once you start getting to the puzzles you want to take the disk and through it the window.
A great game but you might want to play something else every other hour 'cause it can get VERY annoying.
Not for people/kids/small who cant stand blood or are wimps.
Atmospheric Classic Soul Sucking!!!

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Video Game

I believe my wife hated this game when she first bought it for me. She didn't hate it because it was bad. She hated it because it was so good. This game was hypnotizing me. Other games were OK. I'd play for awhile, get bored and do something else.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was different. I'd start playing this thing and get sucked into it and before I knew it four or five hours went by. I wouldn't see or hear anything else going on around me. Soul Reaver created for me the idea of what a totally immersive video game experience was.
Soul Reaver takes place on the planet of Nosgoth. It is a dark gothic vampire epic story. When you play Soul Reaver you take the roll of Raziel; the loyal servant/warrior of Kain the ruler of all the vampires of Nosgoth.
All the vampires were evolving their own particular gifts and Raziel angered Kain because the gift he developed surpassed what Kain possessed. Raziel developed the power of flight. Kain destroyed Raziel's wings and had him thrown into the Lake of the Dead where all traitors and outcasts rot for eternity.
When Raziel awakens he is a mess. The lower part of his face is burned away and his body is like a skeleton with skin stretched over it. A nameless voice informs him that he will be given the chance for revenge and to save Nosgoth from the vampire plague.
Pretty heavy right?
That's not all. To get to Kain and exact his revenge Raziel will have to kill all of his brothers and absorb all their abilities. His brothers are some mean bastards too. Killing them is not easy.
During Soul Reaver you explore Nosgoth. To keep your strength up you have to kill and eat the souls of you victims. Don't feel too bad though. Most of your victims are hunting you and will eat your soul if you give them the chance.
The scenery in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is weird and beautiful. You can shift your point of view to anywhere you want and look around in this strange world. I was actually feeling a bit like an interplanetary tourist while playing this game. You also have the ability to shift from the physical world to the spectral plane. In the spectral plane the landscape in the physical world twists and distorts all out of proportion. It is a very awesome effect.
The background soundtrack music in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is entrancing. This is the kind of music that the best vampire or ghost movies should have. It's eerie and sets you on edge. I like it so much I've been known to put the game on and just let it go to the demo mode as I write my weirdest fiction. This music sets the tone for supernatural adventures perfectly.
With over sixty hours of game play this is a huge game. I've played it all the way through twice. When I decided to review Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for Sinesteria, I figured I'd take another quick look at the game then write the review.
Wrong!
You cannot take a quick look at this game. It grabs hold of you. I've been working my way through it all week and enjoying every minute and my wife now likes the game. The scenery, weird storyline and hypnotizing music have gotten hold of her too.
If you want to play a game that will take you to a weird and mysterious world where danger lurks at every turn then pick up Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. It's a gaming experience unlike any other.
A quick note on the prequel and the sequels.
The prequel: Blood Omen, predates Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver. Extremely primitive graphics. Give it a pass.
The Sequels: Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, all three have excellent graphics, eerie sound tracks and lots of action. All three get a 5 out of 5.
