I started playing the Legacy of Kain series with Soul Reaver 2. After such a good experience, especially with the epic storyline, I decided to play the previous games: Soul Reaver 1, and Blood Omen. Blood Omen, despite being a buggy, outdated game, proved to be essential in understanding the storyline, while Soul Reaver 1 added very little to the storyline, as mostly everything, including the ending, is explained in Soul Reaver 2. Gameplay-wise, I can see that a lot of improvements were made from this version in Soul Reaver 2. Combat is more limited and you spend most of the time solving very tedious puzzles, much more difficult ones than in Soul Reaver 2. "Getting stuck" is the order of the day in this game, thank goodness for guides and walkthroughs. Even the bosses are puzzles. You have to find a special way of killing them; some are really tough. This game turned the Legacy of Kain into the Legacy of Pain (in the rear end) in this aspect.

Nevertheless, the game's atmosphere and storyline is good enough to warrant some suffering through these puzzles.

Shutup whiny babies.

I'm getting sick of everyone whining about Soul Reaver being to hard and impossible without walkthroughs or strategy guides. I'm only 14 and I beat the game without any help from Faqs, guides, walkthrough etc.

If this game is too hard for you, go play Eternal Eyes. It has cute little monsters, easy fights and a happy story. But please, stop humiliating yourselves by saying you couldn't beat a simple puzzle game like Soul Reaver. I've had harder time with Bubsy than I've had with Soul Reaver.

Anyways, great game, go buy it.

A fine game!

I bought Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain almost immediately after its release. It was good, although it suffered from many flaws (which at the time were acceptable). When I heard of the premise of Soul Reaver, I thought, "Great. Now Kain is going the route of Tomb Raider. Ho hum"...
Needless to say, I was quite pleased with the final product of Soul Reaver. No, it isn't the same as Blood Omen, but it is highly enjoyable on its own merit. My only complaint was the lack of fluidity of the controls, but this is a minor annoyance at MOST. I would recommend this game to ANYONE, period. You won't be disappointed...
Now, you follow the exploits of Raziel, as he attempts to exact revenge on his creator and betrayer, the vile Kain. The voices are great, particularly that of the sneering Kain, and the constant gameplay is fantastic. The idea of gaining new abilities as one devours souls is pretty freakin' cool, too...
However, can somebody tell me why Eidos can't put these games out ON TIME?? I waited a long time for Soul Reaver, and now I am waiting for Soul Reaver 2. Yeah, the games are good, but how about making your DEADLINE?!

Excellent

The original Legacy of Kain was a very good game in terms of gameplay and mood, but it had weak graphics. Soul Reaver has the most good aspects of the original with a 3D touch. The graphics are nothing short of fantastic (second only to Metal Gear) and the control system excellent. Also, the cut-scenes and the acting are more cinematic than any game, with really professional actors and not just dire dialogues like Resident Evil. Recommended to any adventure fans.

No questions asked a superb game

This game shouldn't even be possible on the PlayStation. The graphics are beautiful and there are no, i repeat NO loading times during the game play. It hasn't been revealed how this was done but the evidence is there. The environments in this game are huge. For those not familiar with the Legacy of Kain series this is the sequel to Blood Omen:Legacy of Kain, but worry not you don't have to have played that one to enjoy this one. Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have produced a game that is fun and challenging. However at points it is too challenging, so have a strategy guide that you can refer to. The FMVs(Full Motion Videos) are of movie quality and look like they should be on the Dreamcast or PS2. Everyone should at least give this game a try. If you don't have a PlayStation this game is also available for the Sega Dreamcast

I tend to avoid anything to do with vampires-in books, in movies and in video games. So I was hesitant about buying LEGACY OF KAIN: SOUL REAVER. From what I'd heard, this game was chock-full of vampires. Even the hero, Raziel, was a vampire. Hmm, I don't know ... But wait. This is an Eidos game-the makers of TOMB RAIDER and FEAR EFFECT. Eidos has a reputation for creating quality products, so I gave SOUL REAVER a closer look and finally decided to buy it. I'm glad I did! For those of you who are like me and are concerned about the vampire content, let me assure you that this is an anti-vampire game. There is no celebration or romanticizing of vampires here. They are depicted accurately as evil creatures, ugly and deformed. Killing them is an act of mercy. Example: When Raziel confronts his brother Malchia, he's horrified and sickened by what centuries of vampire "evolution" have done to him. "What's the matter?" asks Malchia, filled with self-hatred. "Don't you recognize me?" After they fight, as Malchia is dying, he cries out "Release!" and when his soul is freed from that hideous prison, you sense that he's finally at peace. Surely Hell is better than a world ruled by Kain.

This is dark stuff, yeah, but it's also fun. And the graphics are amazing. I can't believe that so much has been packed into one disc. There are hours and hours of exploring and puzzle solving-in addition to the vampire killing. But if I have one complaint, it's that there's no urgency to Raziel's mission; there's also a lack of direction. Where am I supposed to go? What am I supposed to do? You'll mostly have to figure that out for yourself. But there are a couple of on-line walkthroughs available that can steer you in the right direction.

This is an incredible game, you get caught up in it and you just can't the controller down. The character's movements are exact and the graphics are awesome. I had gotten the demo for this game for the PC with Tomb Raider and was intrigued. When I got my Playstation this game came with it and I was amazed. You will not be disappointed.

Although this game isn't usually what i like to play, it sucked me in right away. The story and artwork are FANTASTIC and the gameplay is just as good. The puzzles can be pretty tough, but it's all worth it for this great game.

Pinacle of adventure game-play, until the end...

Soul Reaver was exiting, with lots of impaling that will makeyou and your friends cheer. It also made you think quite hard tosolve the games many puzzles. However, the total lack of resolution at the end of the game leaves you frustrated and wanting your money back. END

the character animation is great, the stroryline is dark and gothic, and the puzzles are chalenging. however, it is very gory, but if you could sit all the way thru Braveheart, you can stand this.
