I reviewed this game and I loved it. The game lets thinkers put it to their full potentioal. Plus it lets you turn into several animals like wolfs, bats, and even a cloud of gas. If you like action, adventure, and some thinking, you'll love this game as soon as you start.
Fantastic!

Wow....I mean just wow basically this game is flawless it is THE combination of cool systems. Mix metroid, rpg flavoring, and the basic Castlevania bang to a cd and you get probably the game I have spent more time on than anything else. I was skeptical at first, probably because I did not hear of it before release so I go to the store and pick it up 4 months later I stop playing this game after finding everything knowing every secret move possible with my mouth open thinking one thing,"Finally I can go out and get back my life that was stolen by this amazing game.'
Better than CV64 games

I don't care if this game is out of stock, it is a "most play" game, I easily overwhealms the other N64 CastleVania games at all aspects: fun rating, score, graphics.. etc. What else could you want? It has a thrilling score, cool sound FX, and the state-of-the-art on 2D gameplay, much like a Metroid style game rather than a CastleVania game this game is full of secrets, easter eggs and fun facts, you gotta play this game if you want to have great fun! Personally my favorite score pieces are the BGM of the opening, the Alchemy Laboratories, Tower Clock, Catacombs and Royal Chapel, and yours?

Fans of this game series (and I am) will definitely not be disappointed. Graphics that kill, sounds that deafen, and a musical score that may as well come from the Dracula movies themselves are only a part of what makes this game fly. The storyline never becomes tedious or boring and there is always something new for returning players to find. I've finished the game three times so far and I'm still not done with it! Castlevania: SotN is one symphony that deserves an encore!

Allldrool, ahggg, this game is sweeeeeeeeeeeet! 2D Graphics may not thrill, but it's a thrill ride in itself, it's different and exciting each time I play it. This game is one of the best games ever made, and it deserves to be at the top of the list, near Final Fantasy 7!

when I was a wee lad, I played board games, collect four, hungry hippo, monopoly. They were fun diversions, I was later amazed by the prospect of playing game like pac man, dig dug, ect in arcades, (yah I know I'm old). I remember the simple days... and It makes my mind wobble how complex, and utterly craptastic, videogames have become today... I've been a gamer pretty much all my life. So I know how sometimes It's best too keep a game simple, and fun rather then just ruin it by making it too complex.
Castlevania manages too find a perfect balance between the simple and complex. It mixes the old run, jump, smack a monster medusa head, gameplay with street fighter like spells, and wait until you see some of these bosses... some are admittedly lame, others will put your gaming skills too the test. But It's best feature is the awesome design of the castle... and how the developers placed the power ups.
Super metroid has been called one of the... if not THE... most well designed game of all time. The bosses were big and frightening. the map was desgined with the powerups placed in just such a way that when you found one powerup... It gave you the ability too enter an previously unreachable area, There's a certain rewarding thrill behind playing a game with this design, and the developers are either fans of that design, are worked on super metroid themselves. Cuz It not only follows that formula, but builds upon it in every way.
when you first start the game... there will be all sorts of paths for you too follow... but apparently the archtect of castlevania is a sick joker, cuz even with your supernatural powers, you just can't seem too reach these paths. But alter in the game... after alot of adventuring, fighting, and finding all sorts of goodies, you will either find what you need too reach that unreachable platform, or wind up on the other side of it through you journeys. and rest assured it's a fun trip.
The powerups are all cool and fun too use, my fave is the mist spell. that lets your charachter turn into a fog. your enemies can't touch you when your transformed, so you can just pass through them, and attack thier backs. others, like changing into a bat, wolf, or being able too super jump, or wear armor that breaks spikes, are all fun too use that has too be played too truly understand.
And as for the story... Well, It won't win a oscar, but It's pretty cool. The last belmont kicks the stuffing outta drac in the beginning of the game, then after four years of friday night poker games, and having a wench in every town... he disappears. And wouldn't ya know it... about the same time, that fun haunted house that we all know and love as castlevania reappears out of the mist. Richters sis, maria, puts 2 and 2 together; goes too find him. (Apparently he owes her money or something :P.) The half human son of dracula, whos supposed too be locked in an eternal sleep, wakes up after 400 years. after going too the nearest tailor too get some hip clothes and a much needed bath, he heads out for castlevania as well. Sword in hand and ready too kick booty... of course that's just the opening... the rest of the story is pretty decent. I liked how death and allucard had somewhat of a repore. death seemed at first reluctant too fight him, even gave him a chance too go back... but when allucard refuses too renounce his quest of patricide... the whuppin begins. moments like these, and many others like It give some more depth too the world of castlevania.
I could go on and on... this is a game that has a simple premise... but manages too weave in so many complex elements, all fun, yet never loses the simplicity. Games were meant too be simple. a fun distraction from the hectic pace of life. The video gaming industry has grown into such a massive beast over the past few years. It's no longer a niche hobby. and such there is a high financial demand for innovation. But sometimes innovation comes at the cost of fun. Castlevania SOTN manages too retain the simplicity of the old days.... while having innovations up the kazoo. That's why so many people have scuh strong feelings for it today. I would reccommend this too anyone that likes videogames, or wants too start playing them. Solid snake is cool and all, but Allucard Just has more style. if they ever making a fighting game centred around the coolest video game charachter ever... expect too see these two in the finals.
Of course thats just my opinon. I could be wrong. :P
An instant classic. The best PSX game ever!

Long ago, there was a personal computer system in Japan called the X68000. It released a game called Akumajo Dracula X- Chi no Rondo. Later Konami came up with this. SOTN is the sequal to Chi no Rondo. Tossing the whip a side and now brandishing a sword or many other items you now play as the son of Dracula...
Alucard(The same who helped Trevor Belmont defeat Dracula hundreds of years before). In this game you play as Alucard to find out what's with Castlevania(Dracula's Castle). Not to mention what happened to the vampire hunter Richter. In this game there are no stages or levels. You can go to pretty much all of the castle. This game picks up the RPG elements by allowing you to have more than 1 item equiped. Plus you can have different armor, cloak, head piece, rings or medalions, and what to put in the right and left hand of Alucard. The other RPG element is the ability to level your character. This is very helpful in the later levels against super strong monsters. The monsters very from the basic skeleton to flying heads. There are even other story elements here like, the Wizard of Oz, if your a Tolkien fan there are weapons that are here like the Marsil(play on Narsil), there is the Gurthang from the Silmarillion. A necklace you can pick up is the Nauglamir(Dwarves necklace), and many more. Alucard relies heavily on relics, so you will pick a lot of them up. With some of these he will have the power to transform into mist, bat, and a wolf. These forms came from Romanian folklore about Dracula changing in to these to scare his enemies.
In this game you will find and fight many bosses, some are familiar some not. The most familiar besides Dracula is Death, you may even remember Galamoth. When you fight these bosses you will be fighting in beautiful detailed rooms with the best video game music ever. The music ranges from classical to rock.
This game is probably the best 2D game you are ever going to play. Very addictive and challenging, with many secrets.
NOT 3D..NOT A PROBLEM HERE.

In my opionion this is the best CASTLEVANIA out there. This is a 2D game with some nice 3D backgrounds. You have alot of different weapons, spells, and other helpful items that lend support in your long journey. The enemies are very cool to look at (nice animation) however, that doesn't stop you from wanting to shead much blood. The game carries a "T" for "TEEN' rating. There is quite a bit of blood in the game which is cool. I'm telling you right now and many of you know this..CASTLEVANIA: SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT is HUGE. You will have to back track alot in the game. With that being said, I will also say that even though you do alot of back tracking the game never feels repetitious. The gameplay gets a 100% without a second thought. If you own a PS1, dust it off and buy this masterpiece.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is, simply put, a masterpiece. The classic side scrolling action is very well done, as is the use of Spells and the power to Equip, use Secret Uses for equipment (Weapon Ex. With some weapons, they have a special attack that can be executed with Left, Left-Down, Down, Right-Down, Right or vice versa. Accessories Ex. With the Gravity Boots if you press Down, Up and then X (jump) you rocket into the air to dizzying heights). The gameplay is smooth, unless you encounter many enemies with graphically impressive attacks, at which point the action lags. The castle is huge, not to mention once you "beat the game" (the first castle) there's still half of the game left (the inverted castle). When you complete the whole game, you recieve passwords to obtain special abilities in your next game. This game is NOT LINEAR! You basically choose your route through the castle. Let's not forget the amazing soundtrack. The boss fights, however, need mentioning do to their either very easy or very hard state. Dracula (the final boss) is a cakewalk, but don't let that determine your purchase. The game itself is of medium length, but the amount of extra stuff to do allowed me to clock in around 30 hours on my first run (most time was spent exploring and training, the game takes maybe 15 hours). Needless to say, I still play the game, 4 years from it's release! Buy immediately!
