A Great game of empire building. Best first time around

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 21 / 35

When I first got Age of Empires about a year ago, I thought it was the best game ever. After the first three days it just wasn't the same. The wars weren't as fun, probably because I stopped discovering new units. After a while I pretty much stopped discovering new stuff period. So when everything stayed the same each time was pretty similar. I know the thrill of Age of Empires wares off. Age of Empires is definatly best the first time around.

Great Game But Could Have Included Other Empires As Well

This is a great game, but it made me wonder why it excluded the Empires of the Americas, like the Aztecs, Mayans, or Incas

Great Game!

I think that this was a great game. I discovered this game through the demo. These graphics surprised me and they are GREAT! I tried it out on my new computer and they just amazed me. These graphics were certainly one of the best, especially at the time it was made.

Great Game that rarely gets boring!

This game is great! There are so many different difficulty levels and there are lots of different options so that you can play the game in lots of different ways. It also has great graphics!

A Great Figure it out game

Age of the Empires is a great game that always challenges your skills as a gamer. You can't use petty cheat codes and gaming logic in this game. You have to use your brain (I know using your brain is scary at first, but don't worry, this game will fix that). A must must for all intelligent (laymen's terms=smart) gamers.

One of the best strategies ever!

I think this is one of the best games for strategy lovers. If you like things like command and conquer or heroes of might and magic you will love this. This game brings you all of the features of building a civilization you slowly build up your city over time and go up through the ages the stone age, iron age and the bronze age. You have fights with other civilizations for land, food, building matireals and money. You have to buy this game!

When you first start playing Age of Empires a warm feeling starts in your stomach. And contrary to what the online review says, the feeling stays there. Time after time, game after game, Age of Empires seems to get better and better. almost never boring. By far the best PC game out there.

Best Game

This game is one of the best, although there's room forimprovement, like your computer enemies being way more developed whenyou start a game. I disagree with one of the reviews cause AOE's got some of the best cheats - the laser people, a laser shooting car (BIGDADDY), etc. The mist of war is one of the only stupid things in the game. END

got to be smart...

AOE is the best strategy game I own. I play it all the time, and still love it. Contrary to what the online review says, I think this is a great game for anyone that likes strategy. The only flaw I can think of is that certain things happen really slowly, but otherwise it's great.

If you don't own it already . . .

If you've never played AOE, you must be new to computer games. And if you're new to computer games you probably don't want to spend $60 on the "latest thing" which might turn out to be a poor investment. So for you, I'd highly recommend this game. It'll cost you about half of what a new release costs, plus it's every bit as good as most games released in the past year (it's just that every one but you owns a copy so they've dropped the price!) It won nearly every award it was up for in its opening year 1998 and has since gone on to thrill countless junior emperors both on-line, on-LAN and totally solo. Read the other reviews to see what the game is about, but if you're undecided, I'd HIGHLY recommend trying it out. Even better, try AOE Gold Edition which gives you this game (the original) and the Expansion pack (AOE: the Rise of Rome). After playing the original you'll be begging for the expansion. And by the way, this game lets you play by yourself on a pre-programmed sequences of "campaigns" or on so-called random-maps; there's even a map and campaign editor if you want to create your own scenarios. Or you can play on a LAN network (i.e. your school/office with friends). You can even play on-line with total strangers (who will either loose bitterly or annihilate you within moments). Either way, you'll have a blast. Happy gaming!
