A Must Have For The Strategy Lover

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 6

Aoe is a great game for any strategy lover.you have to balance economy with military which provides an altogether GREAT GAME!. You can choose between starting out with 3 villagers and a town center and building a great empire or starting out with TONS of recources and fight the other players to the death. it does have its flaws like every time your farm runs out of food you have to stop whatever you are doing to build it up again or you tell one of your scouts(horses) to go up the map and you come back ten minutes later and you find your scout stuck in the trees. But even with the flaws I still highly recommend this game.

got to be smart...

AOE is the best strategy game I own. I play it all the time, and still love it. Contrary to what the online review says, I think this is a great game for anyone that likes strategy. The only flaw I can think of is that certain things happen really slowly, but otherwise it's great.

When you first start playing Age of Empires a warm feeling starts in your stomach. And contrary to what the online review says, the feeling stays there. Time after time, game after game, Age of Empires seems to get better and better. almost never boring. By far the best PC game out there.

This game has alot of good strategy in it. After playing starcraft and other streatgy games made by blizzard studios, this game is very good. but if you like this game then you should REALLY get the expansions!

one of the best strategie games ever!

I think of this game as the ultimate toy soldier set that I dreamed of as a kid- only the toys are alive and intelligent.

I've literally spent hundreds of hours playing this game , including more all nighters than I care to admit. If you are a military buff this game can become addictive. You can build whole empires here- either from scratch from the stone age, or with fully developed high middle ages technology (which includes gunpowder weapontry.) You have to build up the infrastructure for your empire- including farms, fisheries, mines, and timber. Then you have to build workshops and training schools. Only then can you concentrate on the right mix of cavalry, infantry, archers, and artillery. Just the complexity of the castles and walled towns you can build is fascinating. If this is not enough, you can also build up a navy for sea control, coastal bombardment, and amphibious landings.

Yet, it is never tedious, you really get a feeling that you are actually building up an empire- your empire for your subjects. And every single individual unit is fully and believably animated. A major advantage of Age of Kings over the earlier Age of Empires is that you can order your fighting units into set formations like squares and lines, instead of just sending a mob into battle. The interface here is unbelievable- the "giant" map actually has the feel of a huge extent of territory- enough for a kingdom or an empire.

I prefer this as a single player game- the program is smart and relentless enough to keep you constantly on your toes. Just try playing against 7 to 1 odds with no allies if you don't believe me....

This is a nice cool game. The view could be a_bit better but you get to choose from some civilitions. you start from the begining of time and you have to make a city with a big army.

Best Game

This game is one of the best, although there's room forimprovement, like your computer enemies being way more developed whenyou start a game. I disagree with one of the reviews cause AOE's got some of the best cheats - the laser people, a laser shooting car (BIGDADDY), etc. The mist of war is one of the only stupid things in the game. END

Creative but not interest or new

Okay, I got this game for free somehow, actually, my dad did and he gave it to me. So I thought "whoa, cool." I mean, it was a history-based RTS game by microsoft, it had to be good, right? Wrong. The game lacks, it's slow, the gameplay is difficult, there are many unnecessary units that I never used, and the graphics are nothing new. While I was intrigued by the historical aspects of the game, I was quickly bored with the playing of the game itself. As I said it is slow and often I'd become confused with the so-called "diplomacy" in the game which basically sets up undefendable trade routes between you and other civilizations that have to be re-initiated with every level. The oceanic battles are difficult and too easy to lose while the ground battles are more managable but it is nearly impossible to destroy buildings in most levels (you can advance in "ages" (stone, bronze, iron, tool, etc.)) until you get the heavy artillery. They put in making "wonders" which are lame and a waste of resources which are vital and too hard to come by.

So to be short the game is big on storyline but low on game play. I get frustrated and bored vey easily. If you are new to computer games and interested in strategy, so with the Blizzard games or the "Command and Conquer" series (or be old-school like me and buy Risk). This one is just not worth buying.

Oh and if it matters, the music's really good.
