To be honest, you wonder whether it's worth fixing it

All right - Starship Titanic is funny, has great graphics and good sound. It's a pity about the rest of it though. The robots really start to get on your nerves after a while, and because ST is one of those games which like to make things tricky, you have to type conversations, which means even a slight difference in the expected reply can change the whole thing. It can be very frustrating. Furthermore, there are very few clues as to the location of items needed to fix the computer so it's very easy to overlook them. The last really annoying part is that if you don't have an item right from the beginning of the game - and it is very easy to miss - you can't finish it, which is infuriating if it's taken you a long time to do. Other than that, ST is worth buying if you are a real die-hard adventure game player - otherwise, miss it out.

Delightful

This game has superb graphics and sound and a lot of humor. Half the game (and fun) is just learning what it is you are supposed to do. Because of the nature of the game, in essence you are solving mysteries, be prepared to spend a lot of time working on them. After all, if they were easy to solve there would be no point in buying the game. Once the mysteries are solved. That is it. Rest assured, however, that it is difficult enough to keep you busy for a mighty long time. If you don't enjoy working for long periods on puzzles this game is not for you. There is a book of hints, but my advice is to use it as little as possible. Use it in the beginning to get rolling and then set it aside. Don't get impatient and look. The fun is in solving the mysteries yourself.

Wonderful Romp Through a Giganitic Ship

Douglas Adams and his teams working at the Digital Village did a wonderful job of creating a virtual world in conjuntion with with the Terry Jones novel 'Doulas Adams Starship Titanic'. Control for the game are reminisent of Cyan's Riven but are easy to understand. One of the major bonuses that one notices while playing is the ability to talk to the robots on the ship. The game play is smooth and engaging so find a comfy chair and get ready to enter the Starship Titanic.

Not fun? Au Contrare!

This was my first PC game that I LOVED to play!

I was so stupid about it, that I couldn't even find my first cabin on board, BUT that soon got solved, and I was laughing all the way through. I liked the annoying parrot, and the brilliant graphics. I enjoyed the game MUCH more than Myst or Riven, which I gave up on due to boredom.

I used the online help forum, and met some witty, funny and friendly people there. It made the game so enjoyable I delayed finishing it as long as possible.

It's sad it's no longer available. What are they thinking??? Digital Village don't stop production! There are still people out here who want to play!

Just Say No

Douglas Adams was a wonderfully creative writer. I highly recommend almost any of his books.

Sadly, a good author does not a good game designer make. The interface is derived from the old Infocom adventure games, with a bad command interpreter augmented by graphics. I spent 10 minutes at one point in the game trying to figure out the exact phrasing to finish a puzzle. Figuring out clever puzzles is fun, trying to read the mind of a game designer to intuit the exact words needed is not.

Overall, there's just little thought put into the user experience. For example, there are elevators you need to ride many, many, MANY times in the game. Every time, you have to get in, turn around, and then talk to an annoying robot, then sit through an extended (like 30 second) animation sequence with music which was only enjoyable the first couple of times. There's no way to avoid such cutscenes, even if you've seen them dozens of times already!

I enjoy complex puzzles which are subtle and, when solved, give a sense of "aha!". The puzzles involved here are just nonsensical. Even after finishing the game, I still have no idea why I needed to do half the things I did.

This game has a few interesting points. The parrot (voiced by Monty Python alum Terry Jones) is amusing, and there are genuinely funny moments on occasion.

Overall, though, this game is only for the diehard Douglas Adams fan. The kind of fan that finds throwing money at Douglas Adams' estate to be its own reward.

It could have been so good

Douglas Adams, hero, no god, to many of us. How could he be so good and the game miss the mark by so far? Amusing, yes. But the humor is not sustained, the funny bits are funny for a bit but once you've seen the funny gags the whole thing is just a bit sad. And don't get me started about the door that cannot be opened and the room you cannot enter. There is nothing so frustrating as having a bit that you just can't get to. Kind of makes the whole thing not worth the effort.

Still, we love Douglas Adams. So, I'll be first in line to plunk down 40 bucks when he makes his next one. I sure hope it'll be good...

Dude, you can probably repair your CD.

CDs are almost never damaged beyond repair.
Unless you can see light through the scratch, meaning the actual printed information surface of the media is damaged, you can have it buffed out.
Either do it yourself with a very mild abrasive agent (baking soda or such) and then polish, or take it to your local game/video rental store and ask them to do it. They probably have a little machine that repairs CDs and DVDs.
Good as new.

This game is really cool! This is only the second computer game that I have enjoyed, the first being King's Quest 7: The Princeless Bride. The navigation took a little while to get used to, but once I got the hang of it, it was fine. The graphics are superb and the music is good, as well. I really liked talking to the robots, although their conversation was limited. Some of the puzzles were rather difficult, but if they were all easy, the game would be over too soon.

Not worth the money

At first I thought that this would be a fun game. After a while, it got very tiresome and the parrot was so annoying. I found a few of the puzzles almost impossible to solve, and ended up needing 2 spoilers. The graphics are OK, but it doesn't hold a candle to Myst or Riven. Overall, if you have nothing better to do with your money, and have nothing else to play, then go for it. But if you want something REALLY good, you haven't found it yet.

Good so far ....

From what I played of the game it was good. But unforunatly The disk got scratched and then I couldn't play it any more. I was very disappointed especially since I was in the middle of finding the blue fuse. My point, be very careful with all your disks because you could end up missing out on what seems like a very good game.
