Game Spy Review

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 17 / 31
Date: May 18, 2005
Author: Amazon User

I just bought this game, and haven't had a chance to actually play it yet. That's why I put 3 stars for each - beacause I can't fairly rate it without playing it yet. But I wanted to post something because I read the Game Spy review, and was annoyed. I want to point out to anyone who reads that review, that their entire reason for disparaging the game was that the main character is weak offensively, and forced to wait in the shadows to make her move. When she knocks a guard out, he's only out for a few moments. She can only take a couple hits before getting knocked out herself.

While I can understand how this would be frustrating in gameplay, it strikes me as being more ultra-realistic than most other games of this nature. OF COURSE she'd be knocked out after a couple hits from the guard. OF COURSE the guard only remains knocked out for a few minutes when choked unconscious. OF COURSE, as a thief, she is primarily a sneaker, not a shoot-em-down-and boldly laze about the room - character. I would say that if you want a shoot-em-up game where your character is movie-like empowered with strength limitless weaponry, and the ability to get shot 50 times without going down (while enemies go down permanently with one blow), you shouldn't buy this game. If you want a game that more realistically portrays what a woman thief could and would do, you're probably not going to mind the "waiting and weakness" so much.

A different kind of stealth game

Based on the overall view of the game(as stated on Amazon) and the review of the previous reviewer, I, too am a female gamer but I played the game and I'm on the 3rd level of the game. This game is different from other stealth games albeit other ones use high powered machinery to fight their enemies. But the difference here is she is a female thief and not a agent or mercenary type character. I love the fact that she can pick locks, crack safes, steel cut, use sonars, nebullizers, trackers, tripwires, steal, choke guards etc, pertinent to a thief. I do not agree in the previous review about game spy's review on this game calling the main character weak. She takes her hits(if seen)as well as giveth them. Of course she would be knocked out if hit several times but the good thing is there are plenty of extra boxes around the game to give her health and equipment as needed. Yes, she may have to wait patiently to do her missions but that's what keeps you on your toes as well as keeps you guessing. I hope the previous reviewer decided to at least play the game and give it more than 3 stars because it's deserving of at least an extra star. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because this game is easier than most other stealth games that give you harder missions and high tech weaponry like syphon filter(which I own all 4) or games like splinter cell, etc. One more thing, there are other characters besides the many guards in the game that the main character has to deal with who are Killian, Night and Breeze. Breeze is the worst of the bunch but when dealing with her she uses some kind of boomerang round blade weaponry to try to kill the main character. It's best to try and dodge her as much as possible. Also, the main character has a right hand man to help her on missions via an earpiece and tracking device. And for anyone else who sees this review, please give this game a try. It's worth the price that's being offered for it but I bought it used(and sometimes used games act up, but mine didn't so far)because I didn't know if the game had any potential and now that I know, I would have bought it new and paid the full price because the game is worth it. Also, I hope the company that made Stolen will one day decide to make Stolen2. If that happens, I would surely purchase it.
