Ape Escape 2 is not so good but it works. Really. The graphics are good, the music is good, the voices are terrible and the gameplay sucks. The tank vehicle is so boring it has gotta be illegal. But this game isn't so bad. That's it.
A step down.

I fell in love with Ape Escape 1 so I just HAD to buy the sequel. I was RUDELY dissapointed again and again by this game. First and most noticeable, were the voices of the charactors. Two of the charactors were from pokemon!! I hate pokemon. Second, it was just SO easy! The first game really tests your gameing ability with hidden monkeys, Spector coins, races, and overall just great challenges. And I would like to add that the lack of Spike really anoyed me. And yes, I did do the special trick at the end to play as him, but once again I was RUDELY dissapointed to find that they changed his voice... to YUGI!!! I mean come onnnnn! They use the same childrens anime voices for EVERYTHING!! Spikes old voice suited him much better, of course Spike IS worlds better than Jimmy.
But, though many things were bad, some of the greatness from the first game remained through to the second one. I of course am talking about SPECTER! Though his voice may have been changed-I haven't been able to tell-he still has an awesome non-pokemon, voice. He literally was the only reason that I finished the game. So, if you are Specter obsessed, like me, prepare for dissapointment, and play the game anyway.
Though the game was not very good, it is still Ape Escape. I really do hope they make a third, so they can make up for all the dissapointment caused by this one. And don't even THINK of making Jimmy the main charactor! Maybe old Spike or Jake, but NOT Jimmy!
EKKKK!

IT'S VERY HARD SEEING AS THERE'S SO MANY APES YOU HAVE TO CAPTURE. OHH! ONE THING. MONKEY=TAIL/APE=NO TAIL. THAT'S FOR YOU BABOONS(THE MONKEYS WITH BIG BUTS)WHO CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE.ENJOY!

Great escape for the gamer addict, not too serious and still fun to get through. Like all video games, builds excellent hand eye coordination, great for aging boomers as well.

Out of every game I have ever played, Ape Escape was always my favorite. It was always fun and thrilling, and never left me bored. It was full of action and it required some complex thinking, but it was SO MUCH FUN!When I first heard there was a sequal to that brilliant game, I was SO excited! It was only in japanese for about a year, until it *finally* came out in english recently! I am going to go out and buy this game and write another update about it, but im POSITIVE it will not be a disappointment or a waste of money AT ALL! I loved ape escape and I'm sure I will love ape escape 2 even more. For anyone who lives ape escape, ape escape 2 is a definate MUST!
very good sequel

ape escape 2 was a little more better than the first one. the graphics are better and so are the monkeys. in ae2 they are a little more easier to catch. anyway what happens in ae2 at the beginging the professor tells jimmy to send these new monkey pants out but instead jimmy accindentlly sends the monkey helmets back to the monkeys. then one of the helmets gets back on specter and backs him evil again. then natalie sends him back to catch all of the monkeys. this time specter creates new powerful monkeys to stop jimmy. there are 5 bosses in the game. but there is this really stupid monkey called pink monkey. and she can really bother you. when you battle her its really stupid. all she just does is sing make you fall in love with her. its realy stupid. the characters are a little different in this game. jimmy sounds like ash from pokemon. natalie sounds like misty. the professor sounds different. and spike sounds just a little different. oh yeah spikes back! and theres good news you can play the game as spike but first you must beat the game as jimmy with all the monkeys caught then defeat specter again and watch the full credits. then start a new game while holding L1 and spike is back! ape escape 2 is great. dont miss it!
Great Game

Ape Escape 2 is fun and wacky. I can't imagine how big of imaginations the makers had. There are a few bad parts to it witch are:
1. It switches from being so easy it wasn't even funny, to so hard it wasn't even funny.
2. The views of Jimmy are terrible. I want to know which way I am going.
3. The mini games are bad except monkey soccer and the monkey fables are even stupider.
Otherwise, it is a wonderful game that you must have a pretty open mind to play.
I actually would like to give it 3 1/2 stars...

Four years ago a really awesome game came out, so naturaly they made a sequel. And as with most sequels, you find many horrible changes to the gameplay and maybe some cool stuff. For the most part it's a pretty decent game, but it's the little things that bother me the most. I mean, what's up with all the pokemon elements?! Natalie is played by the voice of "Misty" and dorky little Jimmy is played by the voice of "Ash". And your little useless sidekick is a shamefull imitation of "Pikachu". And it lacks all the difficulty of the first game, it's far too easy. But there still is one very important reason to play this game... SPECTER!!!(by far thee coolest bad guy ever!)
Though this game has many flaws, there were some good improvements. The graphics of course are much better, and I like the new "Gotcha box".
The one thing that bugs me the most is the main charactor, Jimmy. He definatly lacks all the coolness that Spike had, and the fact that he is pokemon-boy just makes matters worse! I know you'll hate him, but just stick with him and catch as many mokeys as possible and you'll be pleasently and unexpectedly rewarded! ^.~
All in all, Specter's awesome and that's all that really matters.
Fun gameplay and much good humor, hampered by some pre-teen, even offensive humor

I really loved this game until two things happened. One was when my (young) kids were playing and I was reading one of the comics that you can "win" to them and the punchline was a fart joke. The comic didn't even make much sense - they were banking on the inherent "humor" in the word. It's disappointing as a lot of the humor in the game is fun and funny for both kids *and* adults. Still, it isn't a big deal and I would let it slide as an aberration if it didn't show up again (maybe it doesn't - I don't know).
Then the second thing happened, which was that I watched my kids play the 2nd boss and this monkey opponent is depicted as a huge, wobbly sumo wrestler with a massive outie belly button. He's clearly intended to be grotesque, and that to be "funny". He also happens to be depicted as flamboyantly homosexual, with a high pitched voice, ballerina moves and even sporting stars on his nipples. Now, don't take this comment wrong - I have no problem with homosexual, even flamboyantly gay characters in a game, in fact there should be more of them. What I have a problem with is the negative depiction of such a character for supposed "comic" effect, especially in a game so otherwise appealing for kids. Sure, have funny gay monkeys, perhaps dressed as Zorro. That would be great. It's a matter of how this character is depicted, and why it is suppose to be funny. It seems wholly out of place compared to fun stuff such as monkeys dressed as disco dancers and bull fighters, monkeys attempting to hide behind a leaf they are holding, etc. There's a lot of really fun and playful humor in the game, and then there is this idiotic stuff. Why?
The game itself - it is fun, no doubt about it, and if you're an adult without kids you will probably enjoy the game and probably wouldn't even give that boss a second thought, but for me it was very disappointing. It colored my experience of the game and my outlook for any other Ape Escape games, knowing the type of humor the developers are going for. I realize that not everyone is going to be as put off by this as much as me, but for those who might be, for those who want there kids to laugh at other, better things instead, this review is here so you can make your own informed decision.
